Last week we created the coronavirus Crisis Center just trying to help and answer the questions that so many of us have. A lot of you are reaching out to us with your questions. Our janelle wang is here with some of those answers for you. Raj and jessica, there is a gravg circulating on social media now. It is from the cdc. People wanted us to break it down, flattening the curve, slow the spread of the virus. This is where the pandemic would be if there was no intervention. Wed have a huge spike in cases. It would overwhelm the health care system, meaning more deaths and serious illnesses. The cdc wants people to do their part even if youre not scared of getting the virus by washing your hands and laying low. That will help reduce cases and cause less strain on our health care system. That is the goal. Now, people are also asking, can you be reinfected with the virus . Doctors in china and japan say yes, theyve seen people reinfected and test positive. Normally with Infectious Diseases you develop an antibody that makes you immune to a specific strain. Chinese doctors say that antibody does not last long so you could be susceptible again. Other Health Experts say its too soon to say. Maybe the patients felt better but didnt fully recover from the coronavirus. So when they got tested again it was still positive. The cdc also says its too soon to say what immunity covid19 patients have. You can send us your questions about covid19 on social media. You can also find full coverage on our website, nbc bay area.
