The Governors Office released the updated list, fairly long, but here are some of the activities you can do. Cycling, golfing, hiking, horseback riding and having picnics. Climbing, and frisbee, or frisbee golf, oneonone volleyball and you can only do these things with your members of your household and stay six feet away from other people. A big list. Plenty of things to do but the key ruling only with your household. From a medical perspective, how important is physical distancing in public spaces. As were entering now almost week eight of the social distancing, the temptation to ease up on that, and kind of head outdoors, especially some place safe, like what you think is the beach, because theres so much open space, its becoming an all too familiar to us and i spoke to a doctor, nbc medical contributor, dr. Roy, about whether the governor made the right call. I guess that frustration and now with the weather getting warmer, certainly here in new york, on the east side, people want to go outside. I get that. I want to go outside and be outside. The issue is, that this is a, this virus, the cases, and the deaths, are still on the rise, in this country. The United States has the most cases and deaths, worldwide. And yes, there is variations from state to state, even within counties within one state. But it goes back to that phrase, you dont know what you dont know. So what do i mean by that . We need widespread testing to truly say that a person is not infected. Now, dr. Roy says it is really important to have coordination on the federal, state and local level between all of the governments and she feels that the bay area really has a handle on that, and that theyre really doing a good job, figuring out what the standards are, and passing that along. Now, coming up at 6 00, dr. Roy again talks about when the covid has the second round again in the fall, which they say is going to be pretty drastic. Weve been talking about whether there are enough ventilators and hospital beds and she said one of things to be talking about is whether were going to have the medical staff in an emotional mental and physical state of mind to be able to handle whats coming our way. California is making child care more acceptable for essential workers, the state is connecting parents with popup child care facilities and handing out vouchers to help parents pay for it. Gov, that will allow essential workers to find the closest child care provider. 132 popup child care facilities, very strategically placed all throughout the state of california. The governor said the states will hand out 50 million worth of vouchers, to essential workers, to help pay for child care. Under the revised health order, San Francisco child care providers can care for children, of essential workers and those with special needs only. No more than 12 kids per group. Nearly four Million People filed firsttime jobless claims last week. Bringing the sixweek total to more than 30 million new claims. The actual number is likely much higher, as overwhelmed unemployment offices struggle just to keep up. I have tried unemployment. I have tried the sba loan. And unfortunately, none of those things have panned out as of yet. I think were going to have a great third quarter. Its going to be a transition. So when i say great, i think the transition is going to be really terrific. And the transition begins asap. The president is looking ahead, at 25 states, who will reopen, in some capacity, by tomorrow. Also tomorrow, workers will go on strike, at some of americas largest companies. Theyre protesting what they say are unsafe conditions. At amazon, whole foods, walmart, target, fed ex, and other companies. Theyre also asking customers to boycott these businesses. Tomorrow, may 1st, is may day, which is International Workers day. The uc system is temporarily saying goodbye to large lecture halls and crowded dorm life. The uc president Janet Napolitano predicts all campuses will open in the fall only partially with a mix of Online Learning and some labs which would be attended in person. Napolitano spoke today at a Bay Area Council webinar. It will be that reopening will be more difficult than shutting down was, and there are lots of things to take into account, so were in that planning process now. She also says the uc system has taken a giant financial hit, with losses of nearly 600 million just in the month of march alone. Because of students kalg housing and dining contracts, and Uc Medical Centers pausing elective surgeries. Ucsf scientists may have unlocked a gnaw way to fight the disease, they are doing it with drugs that are already fda approved. The scientists basically generated a blueprint of the human proteins that covid19 need to survive in the body. They then identified about 70 drugs in compounds already on the market which show promise in blocking the virus from replicating. Now, other attempts to attack similar viruses headon often lead to them becoming drug reese tant. Were trying to target human proteins that the virus needs in order to ultimately infect ourselves. So they have been in the dark since we went on shelter at home order. And just in the last couple of weeks, theyve been able to finally get all three restaurants up for takeout. They say its just not nearly enough of the revenue that they need to sustain the business. So far, they have found direction and help from the state. To be less than helpful. And downright stressful to them. I believe you cant even put in words. Its almost devastating, yes. We cant believe whats happening, honestly. Its my life, where were at, and then getting things from under you. The paycheck Protection Plan you that got, how long do you think that will help you, much of a pad do you think it will give you in terms of your ability to make it through the next couple of months, until the governor opens up phase three . Were still trying to catch up from march. So it will allow us to pay our vendors, our rent, for at least two months, and obviously, a lot of our managers, that were on salary, having to go back on hourly, so it will, i think, it will allow us at least six to eight weeks to survive. Surviving, another six to eight weeks is the goal at this point. They dont actually have the money yet. Theyve been approved. The money comes next. So surviving for the next six or eight weeks. And then when phase three is finally, the restrictions are lifted, and theyre able to open, it is going to be a whole new ball game, another restructuring of the business to figure out how they do that. They are already planning for it. They said theyre planning to only seat on the patio, maybe, to keep the inside locked up, to have rolling plastic screens, between the staff and customers, so in the interim, while theyre trying to survive, theyre also planning for whats going to happen next when they are finally able to open those doors and theyre hoping the money lasts them that long. Raj and janelle . We wish them the best. Like you said, even when they get back into business, it is the limited seating that it will be hard to make a profit in these several months. It will be difficult, thank you, jessica. Fewer scooters in the bay area. Ride Share Company lyft has pulled its escooters out of san jose, and oakland. Its also cutting nearly a thousand jobs. A lyft spokesperson tells us theyre focusing their resources where they can have the biggest impact. Other headlines we are following right now, San Francisco sheriffs deputies say they were forced to open fire on a dog, it happened at hotel whit comb on Market Street which has been com converted to a covid19 shelter. Investigators say a man got into a heated argument with the Facility Security officer when two deputies arrived, they say the suspects dog charged at them. One of the deputies shot the dog several times. The dog was taken to animal care and control. Its condition is not known. Todays fifth and final California Snow survey was brief. Just a stunning day. While we have this sunshine, it really hasnt been too hot. 76 degrees right now in concord and drop down to cooler 50s, once we hit 11 00 p. M. Tomorrow morning, it is simple. It is easy. Mostly clear. Temperatures in the 50s. For the trivalley, peninsula, south bay, got you at 54. And im saying it is looking good in the north bay at 50. Mostly clear. East bay, 55. As we head through tomorrows forecast. There is literally no bad time to get outside. Its going to be beautiful all day long. The sunset, getting later at 7 57. So down in the south bay, we are going to 75 in san jose. 73 los gatos. Notice the winds will linger, 10 to 20 miles an hour. And then definitely could have your allergies aggravating a little bit. And as we continue through that microclimate forecast, we will head past the south bay, and we will head over to the east bay, and wanted to get a look at this. 79 in concord, and 77 in walnut creek. And right there, for the peninsula, 74 in palo alto. And then all the way down to 61 in half moon bay. San francisco, 68 in the mission. And 62 for the outer sunset. And for the north bay, have you at 76 in sonoma, and 79 in santa rosa. Now there are changes this weekend. We have rain near northern california. Its dropping down to the north. Going to bring us some fog and also some drizzle. So let me show you that next change. On saturday morning, theres that spotty drizzle. And also the cloud cover. And so saturday morning, thats that next real big change for us. And then as we head through saturday night, notice that the rainfall will be just to our north. So trace amounts to a quarter inch, for places north of the bay area, this weekend. So some late season rain. Up there. And my extended forecast once again, spotty drizzle, saturday and sunday. And then eventually, we go up to 70 by next thursday. For the inland valleys, we go down as low as 73. On sundays forecast. And then we are going to go hot. By next thursday, we are back up to 90 degrees. We are going to take a closer look at the drought coming up at 6 00 p. M. And we will have a more detailed look at the sierra snow pack number. The puma project was finally able to access some of the cameras in restricted areas to gets a look how the animals are reacting. Lions are feeling more comfortable moving in areas where they couldnt previously because of human activities. Trafficking mountain lions into new areas shows researchers what lands should be protected strictly for wildlife. We have highly fragmented patches of habitat in the bay area and they are cut off from the habitat that they would otherwise access. And this gives you a rare opportunity to study them. It is ub press unprecedented and it will help conservation efforts and help research and other questions were trying to answer about urban influence.
