Reporter federal authorities believe two bay area attacks on Law Enforcement are the work of the same domestic terror cell. The ambush that led to David Underwood dead and the attack that killed Sergeant Damon gutsweller. Federal sources tell us that Steven Carillo is believed to be the sun gan gunman of the shoot oakland. Justin earhart trained with him in utah and never had a hint he was capable of an attack, especially on Law Enforcement. It was a shock. A lot of us have known him as someone who was nice and helpful and very friendly. Reporter at the times of the killings, he was stationed in fair field, training explosives and tactics. A month ago, he called earhart and everything seemed normal. Then came this. His facebook post, one after another, criticizing the police in the death of george floyd. We are sworn an oath to protect the community against these types of people. And to be one of them, theres no words how i can describe how pissed off i am about that. Reporter today on capitol hill, the sister of the officer kill here spoke to Law Enforcements. Im wondering, where is the outrage for a fallen officer that happens to be africanamerican . Reporter authorities believe the van used in the shooting is the same as the one in the san jose county attack. They found guns and explosives in what they described as a compound in the santa cruz mountains. Officers across the state are looking for 26yearold mason james lira. He is considered armed and dangerous. The san luis obispos sheriffs office, says he opened fire ear early this morning on the Police Department. Chp and sheriffs deputies arrived to help. Thats when lira is accused of shooting a deputy in the face and taking off. Your Investigative Unit says federal agents are looking for a link between this and pass issa robles. The head of Oakland Unified School district is recommending the district eliminate oncampus police. Thats the force that patrols all of the campuses. The superintendent wants to remove officers from schools entirely, with the goal of making campuses safer for black and brown students. In a statement, she said, the police chief supports her plan and she intends to have the plan in place by december. That could be a transformational decision. And many other School Districts could follow suit. Tonight, many students in favor of eliminating School Police officers took their message to the mayor. Directly to mayor schaafs doorstep. For all of the people that has been treated really bad. Its not the right way. We want him to be out here because we want him to know that people care about this. Its a big concern when it comes to the protests. That shows how people believe in it, to be out here and be heard the way theyre supposed to. Dozens gathered at Chavez Middle School in union city. They held signs and listened to speakers before marching to the civic center. A couple hundred people near santa cruz had a march and rally tonight. Like many other demonstrations, it was organized by students. A few of the speakers from families of color in the small town, says racial injustice, has not been an easy subject to talk about there. Ive been told to be quiet and listen to the adults that are speaking. When all this was happening to my family, no one wanted to hear. Im grateful that people wanted to listen and hear us out. It is upsetting because we have to work that much harder to gain back trust that we have obviously lost. The demonstration was delayed his last week and postponed sheriffs stdeputy. The Police Commissioners are asking the chief involving officers during the black lives matter protests. Officers surrounding the individuals while the protesters going on. Reporter the chief says, after the massive peaceful protest last wednesday, there was concern a small group might start a fire. So, officers surrounded them and arrested them. There was two fires already that night. There were reports that some of the officers believed that some of the individuals involved had accelerant. We didnt want to have a great night, a peaceful great night, to end in violenolencviolence. Reporter chief scott says he has apologized to a reporter that was detained. The discussion people in San Francisco are calling for the department to be dismantled. During tonights virtual meeting, dozens of people phoned in, demanding city funding for the Police Department, be taken away and spent on social services. The Police Department has no rights to be enforcing the acts of terrorism on its citizens. We need to abolish the Police Departments and put those funds toward the community, for Homeless People and education. Its the latest volley between the dispute on social media. It would no longer allow Police Officers to catch rides to protests. Then, the Police Officers union responded with a tweet, muni, lose our number the next time you need officers for fair invasion enforcement. Tonight, though, the police chief countered. When they are needed, they will be there. I want all San Franciscos to be assured we will be there and come. The chief went on to say any suggestion otherwise is not true.
