State attorney general Javier Becerra filed a lawsuit today. It claims the federal government cannot require International Students to take inperson classes in the fall amid the covid19 pandemic. Right now at 6 30, no one is the lawsuit challenges that new rule announced this week that above the law. The Supreme Court sending a says International Students have message about president ial power to change schools or possibly be by rejecting President Trumps claim that his office should deported if their University Shield him from legal scrutiny. Only offers online classes. The Trump Administration the case centered around two efforts to get access to the president s tax returns. Policy turns out universities into hot spots of the disease. One by prosecutors, the other by congress. In a 72 decision the supreme this policy isnt just unlawful. Court ruled that President Trump its dangerous and morally must turn over his tax and financial records to new york reprehensible. The uc system is also suing prosecutors who are investigating him. Along with harvard and m. I. T. In a separate decision the up next here at 6 00, he justices said a congressional says the california miracle is attempt to get the same tax records need to be reexamined by over. So what went wrong . We talk to the chair of ucsfs a lower court, saying Congress Department of medicine to find could get the tax records only out how we get back on track. If they relate to a legitimate legislative action. The president was quick to and it started with her respond, calling the decision a tooth fairy money. Political persecution. And she hasnt given up. How a 6yearold girl is raising a pure witch hunt. Its a hoax. Thousands of dollars in hopes of just like the Mueller Investigation was a hoax that i saving the oakland zoo. Won. And this is another hoax. This is purely political. The president is not above the law. While most legal scholars consider todays ruling a victory, politics experts say President Trump could be the real winner because its unlikely any of those tax documents will be public before the november election. Lets bring in our political analyst larry gersten. Larry, so much turmoil surrounding this president. Where does this rank . Why do we care what happened today . Oh, its right up there. Because both congress and of course the manhattan d. A. Wanted a crack at the president s tax returns. Why . Because of suspicions, the feelings from other things that theyve heard, other testimony, particularly in the case of the manhattan d. A. , that the president may have been involved in of illegal or at least questionable activities. Couldnt find out unless you saw his tax returns. Now, the banks agreed to turn it over, but the president said i dont want you to. And thats what led to the lawsuits. And it really in some ways, its a stunning victory. Devin, did you know geico is now offering its a stun victoning victory f an extra 15 percent credit on car and motorcycle policies . Ok . Idea that no person, not even thats 15 percent on top the president , is above the law of what geico could already save you. When people are trying to get to so what are you waiting for . The bottom of something. Dj khaled to be your motivational coach . 90. 90 the judges even the two yo devin remember to brush in a circle motion. Dissenting said they absolutely believe the president does not thank you. Dj. Khaled. Have complete immunity. Tiny circles, devin. What now . What do those new york do another one. Prosecutors do with todays another one. Ruling . And in theory anythings not is this good . Put in that work, devin. Going to happen until after the dont give up. Election, right . Highly unlikely. Geico. Save an extra 15 when you switch highly unlikely. By october 7th. You know, the courts work at their own pace, raj. They set up time for people to make their arguments, send in their briefs. This is going to have to go through the courts all over again, district, appeals, and back up to the Supreme Court. Its probably at least a year. The good news for the president is he gets a pass. He dodged a big bullet. The bad news for the president is that both of these sides, the prosecutors in manhattan and also congress, will move forward. They have to narrow their arguments. In one case. The other case they have to show why they couldnt get the information someplace else. But the Supreme Court said look, weve done this before. Weve struck down president ial requests like this when it came to president nixon and president clinton. Theres no reason to think that you, President Trump, will be any different. So the good news for the president is he dodges a bullet. The bad news for the president and the good news for the other side is this thing is far from over and theres a very strong likelihood theyll go back to the Supreme Court and that the Supreme Court next time will probably give in. Can joe biden capitalize with any of this that happened today . You know, he has to look at this i think in a larger context. The context that the president the numbers are going in the cant be trusted. Wrong direction, as you know. The context that the president hospitalizations, icus and the is not believable. Positivity rate up across he doesnt have credibility. California. Patients from southern you throw that in with all the other things the president s california and san quentin are done and said if youre joe actually being sent here. Biden, and you add to your own so what does it mean for bay case about how this person is area hospitals . Unworthy for the office. As far as the president s dr. Bob wachter, chair of ucsfs concerned, hes going to say another hoax, another case of department of medicine, joins us. Where people are trying to pin doctor, thank you for joining the program today. We heard Governor Newsom say stuff on me that doesnt belong, earlier this week the hospital ive beaten them back before capacity is at 8 , which means there is some room, but what are when it came to mueller, ive you seeing at ucsf . Beaten them with ukraine and impeachment, ive beaten them we are seeing many more this time, it doesnt matter. Patients than we were about a well, actually for some people it does and this is only the month ago. It really felt like our first first round of what will be another round and that will be several months were amazingly major down the stream. Good. But right now weve got about 25 last question, just about an hour before this newscast began patients in ucsfs medical i saw a commercial on one of the center compared to a low of networks for President Trump by about 8 or 10 a month a go. His campaign. Are you surprised that theyre starting already with the were definitely seeing an uptick. Advertisements . So 25 patients, covid19 oh, no. Those commercials have been patients. How many patients can you hold . Going on for a couple of weeks now. And what theyre trying to do right now is soften up the where you dont get overrun. Voters, soften them up by really we can hold many, many times doing a negative bit on joe that. The problem is when we get if biden. Hes done, this hes done that, he cant be trusted. We get maybe two or three times really the kind of flipflop busier than this then we would that the president s accused of. Have to cut off our access to other patients. And this is the time of the year so in march and april we stopped doing a lot of elective when people try to make their surgeries. Case, sometimes by showing how we told patients not to come in bad the other guy is. To see us in the clinic. Thats what the president s right now were wide open to see effort will be here. Whether it sticks, given his lack of popularity right now, all of the patients at ucsf. Remains to be seen. We want to stay that way. Going to be a fascinating were a long way away from being four months ahead of us. Absolutely packed but we are thank you, larry. The landscape of new york worried if we get much, much busier we may have to start citys fifth avenue changed turning patients away. Today. Because its like a ripple activists painted black lives effect. Your hospital is taking patients matter on the street in front of from san quentin and from trump tower. Southern california, where theres a huge spike. Mayor bill de blasio approved the painting and joined the how much strain is that putting group on the street. On the hospital and what if the bay area gets a bunch of who built this city . Who built this nation . And never got the acknowledgment critical patients . Yeah, the bay areas done very well. That california did very well and the [ cheers and applause ] President Trump called the bay areas done the best of all. Project a symbol of hate and tweeted it would antagonize what that means at this point is we have capacity and we of course are available to help if police. Lets get back to our other patients need our care. Coronavirus coverage. The head of the cdc says the agency will not revise its so we have several patients at ucsf now from Imperial County guidelines for reopening who were transferred up here and schools. That pushback comes amid sharp we along with a lot of other hospitals in the bay area are criticism from the trump seeing some of the san quentin administration, which is calling for all Public Schools to reopen patients that need hospitalization. If they need care and theyre this fall in terms of sending sick and they need to be in the students back on campus. Many people say that wont be hospital, thats what were here safe as covid cases are surging. For, but at some point we will today a doctor, robert redfield, be taking so many patients we said the cdc will issue more will need to turn other patients guidelines for parents and away. Were not there yet. Were still open for all the teachers but was adamant they patients that need us. Are additional resources, not a but thats what the situation was in march and april. And its a worry because we revision of the safety guidelines already released. This week gyms in the south normally run pretty full and if bay finally got the news theyve we become fuller with too many been waiting for. They can reopen. Covid patients we wont have the but after reading through the ability to take care of patients fine print many are now with cancer and Heart Disease wondering if they can work out a who need other things that we way to meet all the new are uniquely situated to do. San jose not as warm. Thats because you get a little bit of a breeze off the bay and well have you at 89 degrees. The peninsula, we are looking at some 70s here, at least for san mateo. And you go to redwood city in palo alto. Not too hot. The low to mid 80s coming back in. San francisco i do see lots of 60s tomorrow. From the marina right down through the empark darro. And for the mission as well. And right across the north bay we are coming in with some heat. Low 90s. And then right here across the inland valleys i do have temperatures in the 90s as we head through the next several days. I dont see any big wind events. So thats good news for our fire danger.
