As weve been reporting all weekend the stakes are high for replacing Justice Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. Most republicans want the president to nominate a replacement immediately but a few members of the gop, senators Lisa Murkowski of alaska, Susan Collins of maine, they want to wait until after the election. When biden was chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee he said if there is a white house of one party and senate of another such as what happened in 2016 then a vote should not happen. But if the white house and senate are from the same party which is the case right now then precedent shows a vote should happen before the election. I am not speaking to Mitch Mcconnell who will do what he wants and he does. I am speaking to those republicans out there, senate republicans, who know deep down what is right for the country and consistent with the constitution. Biden went on to say that if he wins the election the president s nominee should be withdrawn. He also vowed to consult with those democratic and republican senators in selecting his nominee. As we begin to this north wind which pushed the smoke to the south being replaced by a stronger seabreeze. That should start to clear out the smoke. Lets go to the weather model. There you go. Monday afternoon into tuesday the smoke starts to come off the board at least around the bay area. That should be one of the more pleasant aspects, better air quality through the week. Especially tuesday through thursday probably the best air quality days where most of the area gets into the green and a cooldown in temperatures. The morning 50s to start. Patchy, low clouds near the coast. Instead of low 90s inland tomorrow mid 80s to upper 80s south of downtown san jose. San jose near 82 degrees down from the 91 today. 86 in pleasanton also down from the low 90s earlier. 74 in oakland. Bayside peninsula temperatures in the 70s for tomorrow. San francisco should still see 70s. Probably not as warm as today. 72 closer to downtown. North bay temperatures for tomorrow into the 80s. Pretty interesting week. This is the reason why the onshore breeze is strong. Good looking storm there heading toward the pacific northwest. An Atmospheric River storm that is going to bring a lot of rain into washington and oregon and just a slight chance might see rain on the northwest coast near eureka on thursday. Normally that gets our attention but in this case it is building in after it and that is a bit of concern as we head toward next weekend. Look how strong the ridge of High Pressure starts to build in. Look how it is centered a little bit further to the north. As that starts to lock in over the bay area by next sunday we will likely see a period of dry, north wind. That is something well watch very closely starting friday into saturday. So in addition to that and the wind coming in out of the north look at San Francisco. Temperatures rebounding back up closer to 80 degrees. Possible by next weekend. And after tuesday through thursday looking pretty nice with good air quality. Well have to watch the turn of the winds as we head into next weekend. We know well see mid to upper 90s in some of the valleys. The key component of the forecast will be to see how strong the north winds get. Could it be Something Like we saw a week ago when we saw high fire danger . That is part of the forecast well be watching closer to the week. Fall officially starts on tuesday but hot weather makes a big comeback as things look right now next weekend all eyes on the wind and the heat that could stick around. Right now looks like a heat event saturday through the following monday september 2 wa. So enjoy the good air quality and the Cool Temperatures. Were going to have to watch next weekends forecast very closely due to the dry conditions and potentially the north wind as well. We wont think about that for now. Rob, thank you. All right. Lets check in with anthony with sports. You almost have to have a medical degree to assess what happened to the 49ers today. Youre right. There is a lot going on. The 49ers win their first game of the season but, boy, it was major injuries to some of their key playmakers on both sides of the ball. Taking on the jets this afternoon the first of backtoback games at Metlife Stadium in new jersey. First play of the game things looking great. Mosert off and running 80 yards for the touchdown. San francisco has a 70 lead then things take a turn for the worse. Defensive end nick bosa goes down with a knee injury in the First Quarter and is carted off the field. A few plays later on the same series defensive tackle solomon thomas hurts his knee. He is carted off the field. More trouble in the First Quarter. Jimmy garoppolo is sacked and hurts his ankle. Now, he played a little more then went to the locker room before halftime. And did not return. Mosert also did not play the second half because he hurt his knee on the turf. The niners say the turf was sticky and giving them problems. 49ers go on to beat the jets but after the game the players were thinking about their injured teammates. I think the guys were real pumped about the win and it was huge to get that and i think we played our off. That was a real good game by the team. But its all you got mixed emotions when youre with guys like that. How can i be happy when they are going through a tough situation . You know, great we got the win but life isnt all about football and those guys are my brothers so im thinking about them. All right. So Pay Attention because this gets a little tricky. Coach shanahan believes bosa most likely tore his acl in his left knee and possibly so did solomon thomas. He said possibly. Those would be season ending injuries. Jimmy garoppolo has a high ankle sprain. Those injuries vary. Maybe three to five, three to six weeks. Running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman both have knee injuries. The 49ers say theyll know more after test results on monday. To the diamond the giants avoiding the sweep by the as. Pick it up in the fourth inning. Already up 20. Darren rupp slams it to center. A tworun shot to guff the giants a 40 lead. Then in the sixth with the bases loaded Brandon Crawford with the grand slam. The giants slam the as, 142. Theyre in a three way tie for the final playoff spot in the National League with only audiotape games remaining in the regular season. To the links and the final round of the u. S. Open played in new york. Bryson dechambeau began the day trailing by two but the Central Valley native out of clovis played incredible golf. He drains the eagle putt on the ninth. Shoots a three under 67 in the final round. He was the only player to finish under par. Dechambeau wins the u. S. Open at six under. It is his first major championship. And if were going to look on the bright side for the 49ers, guys, in exweek they play the new york giants back at that same stadium. The good news . The giants are not very good, so there is the bright side if you want to look at it for the 49ers. Back to you in the studio. But that same feel, kind of a controversial field all of a sudden theyll be playing on. They said it was really grabbing them and giving them problems. The thing is week one they didnt have any problems or major injuries with a team that when the giants played back in week one. I dont know if theyll be able to do anything. One of the players said field turf like that once it gets worn down is a lot better but in the beginning, brand new, real sticky and we saw it led to several possibly led to several injuries today for the 49ers. Anthony, thanks very much. Thanks, anthony. Finally tonight, paying tribute to the icon she portrayed. Kate mckinnon who famously played Ruth Bader Ginsburg on saturday night live is remembering her fondly. I regretted my comments about Colin Kaepernick but then this week he said he didnt vote. I guess this guy takes a knee on everything and that is a hopkins burn. Mckinnon put out a statement calling ginsburg a real life hero, plus, quote, a road crusader who saufd the day time and again end quote. Mckinnon also says it was a profound joy to play her on the show and by the way the new season of snl premise october 3rd right here on nbc bay area. She played that role really well. Okay. Rob is joining us now for a final look at the weather. Weve got some Cool Temperatures heading our well, cooler temperatures headed our way before another warmup. Yes. Better air quality too is the real headline of the next two to three days. Air quality improving as the seabreeze comes back and you see it clearly on the weather model starting to push more smoke to our east. The five day air quality outlook looks great. In fact we were talking about a five day forecast and everything looks just fine but unfortunately as you alluded to next weekend does look noticeably hotter and could see some upper 90s in the forecast. A closer look coming up tonight at 11 00. All right. Rob, thank you very much. Thank you very much for joining us. Well be back tonight at 11 00. One hour from right now. We hope you can join us. Well see you then. Have a great night. My imagination i would play out possibilities of what happened that night. I thought about how scared she must have been it was hard to go to sleep some nights a young woman living on her own. Murdered in the middle of the night she was at her most vulnerable alone and in bed. A cry that jolted a sleepy seaside community. A killer walking among them. I dont think it sets in were all more in danger at that point. Young, fu
