Opened eight hours ahead of schedule but there may be a safety issue on this new stretch of the road. Kpix 5s cate cauguiran explains why a certain section could be confusing for drivers. We are standing by the section right now. Some drivers and even an architect on the project says the celebration for the new presidio parkway may have come too soon. The issue, this one line of paint. Reporter the new presidio parkway getting a lot of praise from drivers. The improvements they made was tenfold. Reporter one Landscape Architect on the project noticed something as he made his first drive through the second tunnel. The road is so smooth, up to this point and then suddenly [ inaudible ] reporter its an s serve so if youre driving the far right lane youll have to move over. The hook turn coming in is an interesting turn. Reporter especially if you arent paying attention or are distracted. Chp says a speed limit of 35 Miles Per Hour, it shouldnt be a problem for drivers. Our problem comes in when you enter that tunnel at a speed greater than that. Reporter but michael says the problem is most people are going more than 35 Miles Per Hour an hour. Reporter if youre going too fast, you also might miss this. Right after the second tunnel the road twists to downtown or the presidio. If you miss the first signs letting you know, youll end up making a last minute switch just like this uhaul. We have been keeping an eye on the entrance to the second tunnel going straight to San Francisco. So far so good. Cal trans and project leaders say they are aware of this and they said there is a reason for this scurve and there is a fix. Well have that coming up for you at 6 00. Drivers taking 19th avenue can now veer right on to a new exit leading to the marina. That part has been finished for a while but crews were waiting till the weekend to open all access roads at once. Kpix was the only station to bring you a most unique and captivating view of the new presidio parkway. We used sky drone 5 and launched right next to the palace of fine arts and were able to give you this look at the 1. 1 billion project thats been years in the making. Reporter the first thing you notice from sky drone 5 is how open the new presidio parkway is compared to the old doyle drive, which for are 80 years stuck to its designers promise of keeping people out of the presidio, understandable since it was a military base up until 1994. Sky drone 5 shows you driving toward the first of four new tunnels, the whole point of the new parkway is access, connecting the presidio on one side of the parkway and crissy field on the other. Drivers can experience and see what people walking or biking across the tops of the tunnels will get to enjoy. And a new element that drivers will have to adjust to is the off ramp and intersection for traffic going to and from the marina. Com. A chp officer is recovering with moderate injuries after his motorcycle collide d with a big rig. It happened north of el cerro boulevard. A big rig clipped the officer. The cause is still under investigation. The officer is expected to make a full recovery. Tonight were learning the identity of the man killed when this truck went flying in to an East San Jose home friday. Surveillance video captured the truck speeding down the street right before it crashed into a home on spruce gate court. Police say 60yearold allen of san jose was inside the truck. He died at the scene. Tonight families are sifting through whats left after a fire destroyed three homes. The flames started yesterday along snow drive along highway 101. Mark sayre has new video of the fire thats left nearly a dozen people homeless. Reporter neighbor james dixon caught the first moments of the fire on his ipad after he and his wife first heard what they thought was an explosion. It was a total fire. The whole thing was burning up in orange. Huge fire. The fire jumped from those houses all the way over to the other side of the freeway. Reporter members of the Arson Task Force are sifting through whats left of two homes. Investigators say because the fire was so high profile and spread to the freeway and several neighboring homes, they want to find a cause. San jose fire arson captain chris murphy asked his face not be shown because he works undercover. Right after the fourth of july its hot, things are drying up, were in a drought. So we want to see if we can find out what happened here and learn from it and maybe prevent future fires if thats possible. Reporter from this backyard you can actually see where the flames jumped the freeway sand wall. The flames went to the southbound lanes of highway 101. I thought my house was on fire. Reporter neighbor paul salinas says his elderly mother was inside at the time the fire broke out and firefighters had to break down doors to get his mom to safety. So then it went over the sound wall back there and got on the grass on the freeway then it went down and caught two more houses downstream. Reporter in all all were three separate fires, the original scene, the grass by the freeway, then several hundred feet down the block when the fire again climbed a tree and crossed in to the neighborhood from the freeway. An arrest tonight in a bizarre vallejo kidnapping that police once called a hoax. Joe vazquez in vallejo where the victims are speaking for the first time, feeling vindicated. Denise huskins was here in vallejo a short time ago flanked by her attorney. At times she was emotional, looked like she was on the verge of tears just as the details of her horrible ordeal became public. The Vallejo Police department owes an apology to miss huskins and mr. Quinn. But more importantly is they owe an apology to the public. Reporter Denise Huskins and her boyfriend aaron quinn held hands silently. Their attorneys say they dont want them to speak because they dont want to hurt the fbis case against the kidnapper but theyre very angry at the Vallejo Police department for calling this case a hoax. At this point an apology is no good. Apologies dont do anything. What we want to see is some real action. Reporter the fbi announced today matthew muller, a harvard law graduate and practiceing attorney until he was recently disbarred, is now in jail. He was arrested for an attempted kidnapping in dublin. According to Court Documents the fbi says muller is also responsible for kidnapping denise from her boyfriends home here in vallejo back in march. Now weve learned from the arrest warrant documents that denise reported she was sexually assaulted by her captor twice and she said the attacker recorded it on video. The fbi documents also include lengthy emails sent by the alleged kidnappers and links to photos to try to prove the kidnapping was real. This picture shows a messy room, a window with duct tape hanging down. The emailer said the glasses on the night stand belong to the kidnapping victim. In another photo the emailer shows tools he claims were used by his gang of criminals that took denise. There are all sorts of electronics gloves, and even a wig. Some of the evidence linked them to muller and there was also a pair of goggles with blond hair found in a car in south lake tahoe. The suspect muller was a marine before he went to college. A Northern California man wanted in the disappearance of his 6yearold daughter is dead. Sheriffs deputies reported they shot and killed 23yearold graham in Siskiyou County this morning. He allegedly stole a semi automatic weapon from his mother and a car from a couple in shasta lake. Earlier this month graham reported his daughter missing. Police say he became a person of interest after he gave inconsistent statements to investigators. His daughter still hasnt been found. One of two men accused of brutally abusing two cousins at levis stadium will learn his fate today. Hell serve five years behind bars for instaigating a brutal bathroom beating at a 49ers game. Letters were read from the victims families. One letter stated the victim had to relearn how to eat, walk, and talk. They were difficult to read them. The purpose of the victim impact statement is to advise the court on how the client has affected the entire family. A photo of el chapo guzman, allegedly in an aircraft was posted on a spanish blog. Guzman escaped from a maximum security prison in mexico saturday. Another photo on the blog appears to show guzman in a public place enjoying a beverage. Neither of the photos have been verified. Meanwhile were learning more about el chapos elaborate getaway. He escaped through a hole in his shower and in to a mile long tunnel. El chapo whose real name is joaquin guzman, is considered one of the worlds richest and most powerful drug traffickers. The u. S. Is offering its full support in tracking him down. Obviously the United States will say its very interested in making sure mr. Guzman is brought to justice. He faces very serious crimes not just in mexico but charged with serious crimes in the United States as well. So far investigators have interrogated at least 30 guards. New numbers from u. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or i. C. E. Show 1800 immigrants who the government wanted to deport were released from local jails in the u. S. Then later rearrested for various crimes. Those rearrests were among 8,000 people freed between january and august of 2014. Despite requests from the feds that they be held for deportation.
