This is a home, one of dozens in chelan county, that already burned. Officials say the firefight is far from over. They are concerned about warm and windy weather later this week. For the first time in u. S. History, two women made it through the rigorous Army Ranger Training and will graduate on friday. They learned to overcome fatigue and hunger and stress during small combat operations. Hena daniels is here in new york. Good morning. Reporter good morning. The u. S. Military began the process to open thousands of front line combat jobs to women about two years ago. Service branches have been developing gender neutral requirements for all jobs in the military and are currently evaluating whether any positions should remain closed to women. After 62 days of grueling training, two women are now on their way to graduating alongside 94 men from the armys elite ranger school. The pair were among 19 females who took part in the firstever coed Training Session in the schools history. Training that includes a notoriously tough course. Carrying the sacks which is pretty heavy. Running missions. Learning how to do patrolling in different types of environment. None of that is dated by the fact the students probably average between two and four hours of sleep a night. Reporter the women who have the been identified started the tough journey back in april with runs of other soldiers and completing a fitness test consisting of 49 pushups and 59 situps and a Five Mile Run in 40 minutes. Over the course of a few weeks they mastered military mountaineering and parachute jumps and air assaults to earn the ranger tab. At the root of everything, the courses purpose is still to create combat leaders and make the rest of the army better. Reporter unlike the men, though, the female graduates wont be able to join the 75th Ranger Regiment since the force remains closed to women. In the end, Army Officials say the male and female students have, quote, proven their determination, physical stamina, and mental toughness to succeed.
