Four women tell the Washington Post moore pursued them when they were teenagers. One of the women was 14 at the time. All four confirmed their stories to cbs news. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee sanders reacted to the report overnight while traveling on air force one. The president believes that we cannot allow a mere allegation in this case one from many years ago to destroy a persons life. However, the president also believes that if these allegations are true, judge moore will do the right thing and step aside. Moore calls the allegations baseless political attacks, but they are the newest bombshell in a senate race that was supposed to be easy for the gop. Nancy cordes is on capitol hill where moore is getting almost no support, nancy, good morning. The team will look into accusations against Film Producer Harvey Weinstein, director james toback, actor ed wislik and others. The los angeles District Attorney says her task force will work in coordination with the lapd and Beverly Hills Police Department. Now, the task force will be specially trained deputy District Attorneys and veteran sex crimes prosecutors. This is a moment in the aftermath of all of this reporting that people have done about allegations against Harvey Weinstein, bill oreilly, other people in the news. This is a moment when women feel that theres an opportunity for solidarity, to speak out. We have had a tips line. New york times. Com tips in which people offer to share their stories. We started to hear certain names pop up over and over and we began looking into them. What did they tell you . Why did they decide now is the time to talk . Some allegations are graphic. They said they brought it up years ago. Some of these have been out there, rumored in the comedy community. For the women we spoke to, they felt this is the moment to speak, you know, there is this movement, there is this sense of solidarity, that their stories now will get support, will be heard, will be listened to in a way they felt may not have been happening, you know, years past. Theres a point also that louis c. K. Reached out to apologize at some point . Several women received messages from him or spoke to him on the phone and he expressed feeling sorry for his behavior and in some cases some of the people accepted his apology and forgive him. One of the things thats interesting about this behavior is it really hits deeply. And an apology is a great move to make. But it doesnt necessarily erase the pain or the trauma of the original experience. Was it more difficult for these women to come forward given the industry that theyre in and their roles as comedians . I mean, we look back at his work and he sort of alluded to these types of acts before. Did these women feel extra pressure about not coming forward because of the line of work theyre in . I think so. Comedy, like many fields, is a maledominated industry, and theres an expectation if youre a female comedian you can hang with it, you can take a dirty joke, you can be accepting of some raunch that would be out of place in most workplaces. He would sometimes joke about some of these acts, some of these incidences that hes accused of now doing. Something like masturbation is a theme in his work, he makes jokes about it on stage. It factors in his new movie. So definitely some of the women we spoke to thought that maybe his style of comedy was perhaps a way to mask the actual like a shield. Alleged misconduct, yes. Hes going to respond in a statement soon . Yes, weve been told he is going to respond. He did not comment for our story. Struck by something jody canter said in our piece earlier in the show that these women are coming forward now because they didnt want to miss the window. Is there fear the window will close and these types of incidents are going to start recurring even after everything weve seen following weinstein revelations . I think theres fear there could be a backlash to all of this information. But, you know, what weve seen so far and i can say from our reporting from the story coming out yesterday to today, we definitely have had other people call up and say, you know, ive had experiences in general, not necessarily with louis, but, you know, people feel like this is the moment to talk and its emboldening a lot of people that might not have wanted to talk before. If you guys can get me every rape case she has ever filed, the fact she claimed, you know, that she had been raped by so many men so many time, its too big to email. That wasnt true. No. If she had been raped that night then this would have been a justified shooting. And i would have written it up as one. But this was not a justified shooting. This was coldblooded murder. Well, the prosecution would say it didnt because of course during voir dire they ask all the jurors and all the jurors say they didnt see it. But the bottom line is, especially in this day and age, its online, and i have to be honest, i stau v saw it when i first started reporting on this, it does color your judgment. You have a woman who says shes shot in selfdefense, but then off police officer, a very Credible Police officer, who is actually a weapons expert, who says during this show she did a tactical reload, which means youre reloading actually right before the action thinking that youre going to need more weaponry, and you say, wait a minute, i mean, how could this be selfdefense if she reloaded . That wasnt true. It was not true. And she didnt file other rape claims. That wasnt true. That was on the show. And that was the detective actually said against a number of men. So it sounds terrible going into this. And the fact this detective showed up unannounced with cameras, too, is and the defendant had no idea. Did not know. Jumping to conclusions over here. Well, they are behind the president in a way that ive not een in politics it is no just, hes our guy. But the message the president is sending out there about the economy, about what hes done in office on regulations theyve internalized. They have some complaints about him, but they it is not just boosterism. It is actual belief in what he is promoting, specifically with respect to things like tax cuts, where theyve heard what hes saying and can repeat it and are therefore it makes their support more durable as they hear criticisms from elite, the press, democrats and other republicans. Is there a difference between those who support trump because of style and culture, because of the finger at the establishment, and those who find that the policies he talks about tax reform, how he feels about immigrants and other issues are those that they fervently feel passionate about . Theres a connection. They had that first gutlevel connection with him, basically hes our guy, going to punch the establishment in the nose. But then when you ask them about policy, about the economy, about what hes done well, what they think about congress, theyve connected to what hes saying at a policy level. There may be debate about the specific policy views they hold, but they are not just making that cultural connection and then dropping it there.
