Now to our top story. Hundreds of thousands of people across the country turned out for the Second Annual womens march all in support of female empowerment, equality and the me too movement. Here is another look at the scene. In marchers made their way on bart into the the city. We have Team Coverage around the bay area. Jessica flores is in San Francisco, and devin in san jose. Jessica. Well or organizer organizers just told me they had more than 60,000 folks march the streets. This year folks turned that outrage into action. In San Francisco the march today Inspiring Women to run for Political Office tomorrow. The theme this year, hear our vote. We will get your take on the streets because r because we have we have a lot of work to do. For many here it is another round of fighting for womens rights. It is hopeful. Hopeful because of the next generation. Just having this happen all around me reminds me no matter what obstacles are in our way we can always keep pushing and follow our dreams. It is united stating people and bringing people together and inspiring people run for office and make their voices heard. It was important to bring my daughter to show her what participation looks like. To be able to have these conversations. The womens march comes as a Record Number of women plan to run for congress and statewide offices across the country. For 9yearold sylvia it is simple i think its a good idea because there is not enough. Women have good ideas. Tens of thousands marching across city streets helping push through a new wave of political power we will not going to stop. Im not going to stop till im dead. We are going to change this. We actually spoke to people a lot of people who were here as a voice for dreamers. As we know, one of the reasons the Government Shutdown is because lawmakers failed to reach a deal on daca. They are happy to see congress defending dreamers and fighting for change. Our country is built on diversity. The fact anyone would take away this opportunity for kids to be able to be here and be productive, its beyond reason for me. There is a lot of Division Going on. I think having a view that we are all part of the same Global Community is really important that we should find our commonalities and not try to find our division. Oakland police estimate that 40 to 50,000 people showed up in oakland today. There the event ended with a call to action. Organizers and demonstrators say they are hoping recent stories of Sexual Assault and harass d harassment will help open up a dialogue. A political game of chicken and a political blame game. Its day one of the Government Shutdown and there is one thing both republicans and democrats can agree on. The solution is to end the foolishness. So far lawmakers cannot find common ground. We feel very, very strongly about the issues. Democrats insist on a fix to daca. Minority leader Chuck Schumer said she even went so far as to offer money for the president s border wall during nothing augusts. Hours later i got a phone call telling me this is not good enough. Well once the frame work of a deal is agreed upon, everything moves very quickly. The procedural stuff is easy. Voting and getting something passed can move very quickly. The difficult part is having the two sides meet face to face, sit down and Start Talking to each other and agreeing to the terms. That is what they have to aim to do. That could take a while. Behind the scenes and evening tours are cancelled until the government is back up and running. Mere Woods National monument was also open to the public today but it will be closed starting tomorrow if the shut down continues. They are just not staffed which means free pack fog visitors. Now the Visitor Center is closed but privately operated stores, restaurants and hotels are open. And here are other services that will stay open during the Government Shutdown. Your mail will be delivered. The post office is self funded and so post Office Workers will keep delivering mail throughout the shutdown. Tsa and their Traffic Controllers will keep working. Airports wont be impacted but those employees would be work without pay until the government does get funding. If you trying to get a passport you probably should speed up the application process. The state Department Says the processing will continue as long as there are sufficient fees to support operations but if a Passport Agency is closed because of the shutdown, the facility might also be closed. Meanwhile more than 8500 employees at the cdc wont be at work under shutdown. That could slow the cdcs ability to monitor flu cases. In california 32 people died this week alone. That brings the state total to 74. The same time last year there were just 14 flu deaths. Here in the bay area the number stands at 25.
