The gunfire came from an argument about 500 feet away. Police say it was between people inside a Dodge Durango and another person outside. One person inside the vehicle was arrested, but has been released for lack of evidence. Meanwhile, miguels family is still heartbroken. I want justice for my dad. July 1 was his birthday in heaven. It has been superhard for everyone, not just me. I just hope that we are able to get the people involved. Some troubling numbers tonight for oakland. More than 4000 Homeless People are now living in the city. We spoke with the mayor about what needs to happen to tackle the housing crisis. Reporter a couple of months ago, we told you about the 43 increase in the number of Homeless People living in Alameda County. Today we got a look at the breakdown. There are more than 8000 People Living in this county that are homeless right now. The mayor says that means one thing, we need to build. These increases are not unique to oakland. They are throughout this county. They are throughout the day entire state. Frankly, the entire west coast. Reporter the numbers show 12 or 14 cities in Alameda County have shown a jump in homelessness in the past two years. Oakland has a vast majority of the Homeless Population. In 2017, oakland had 2761 people identifying as homeless. Today that number is 4071. Bonus most of the folks who are and honaves. Reporter that is one of the rumors dispelled, the people are moving from other cities. Of 12 are doing that. 40 of the Homeless Population in oakland grew up here. Another rumor that these numbers are supposed to be dispelling is that Homeless People do not want housing. Only 3 of the people surveyed answers saying they are not interested in permanent housing. Proposed changes to the federal food stamp program. It could mean thousands here in the bay area will lose their access to affordable food. The new rule takes power away from the states to determine who is eligible. Is a federal deal now. It bands families of four who are making more than 33,000 a year from receiving any food stamps. Officials say here in the bay area, 33,000 is just not enough to get by. We consider them still low income. The threshold that we use is set in statute. It doesnt work here. California is very different than the rest of the country because it is so overpriced for most people. It is believed that about 3 Million People in the United States could lose access to food stamps if these new rules take effect. Today governor gavin newsom revealed the first report from his dmv Reinvention Strike team. It says the wait times have decreased by nearly an hour between last august and may of this year. A baby barn owl is resting easy after being rescued from under a bridge. Take a look at this little guy just under a year old.
