The dive boat tragedy is identified. A former crew member of the conception speaking out about safety on board the ship. Safety is first and foremost. They are all skilled people. Hurricane dorian just upgraded to a category 3 storm as a batters the southeast. We begin with breaking news in riverside county. Here is a live look. This is near the town of marietta. The wild fire is burning out of control. Some mandatory evacuations are in effect right now. We are getting word from cal fire. Almost 1000 acres have gone up. Possibly sparked by multiple lightning strikes in the area. This is what the firefighters are dealing with. The overnight cruise will be out here getting the containment numbers up. Right now it is cooler. The wind has died down and humidity has come up. This is favorable for the firefighters. The flames are really laying down for the night. Shelter has been open tonight at a local high school. That fire only about 5 contained. Another bay area victim in the dive boat tragedy identified. She had worked at the Campbell Company for six months and lived in berkeley. We know 11 victims are from the bay area. We learned two other identities today. Two worked at brilliant based in San Francisco. Investigators have been searching for clues. Today they met with the victims families and interviewed crewmembers. Five were tested for alcohol and that was negative. 16 investigators from ntsb are expected to be onsite. Teams are documenting the wreckage. Which is currently submerged under 60 feet of water. It is inverted. That documentation is occurring with side scan sonar. So they are mapping the wreckage before it is moved. There are so many Unanswered Questions about how Something Like this could have happened. Tonight we spoke with a former crew member and captain of the conception about safety on board that ship. Fire suppression systems. Reporter there is a photo of the conception in his home. The former crew member, he was last on the ship 16 months ago. And has a message for the family of the passengers who died on it. I have the utmost sympathy for the friends and family of the passengers that perished on this tragic accident. For them to know the facts. We dont have all the facts. As of right now. Reporter he said he has been disturbed by what he calls rumors reported about the ship. Like passengers packed into a cramped sleeping quarters behind locked bunk room doors. There are no doors or locks. There is no way for anybody to get locked into the bunk room. They keep portraying this as being extremely cramped quarters. It really is not. There is plenty of space. Reporter he said there was smoke and fire alarms inside the bunk room and throughout the boat. And two exits from the sleeping areas that would have led to the galley. It tells me that the fire was between the captains wheelhouse, where the crew was staying and the bunkhouse. The fire was in the middle. There was no way to fight it. Reporter a tragic and deadly fire on board a dive boat. This one time crewmembers says, was as safe as they come. The safety of this boat and the crew is far superior than anything out there. Reporter those who rode out the hurricane are just beginning to assess the devastation. All the main buildings are gone. Only concrete. Reporter they lost their home. I still can see my son getting dragged across. Reporter in the u. S. The National Hurricane center is warning of lifethreatening storm surge long hundreds of miles of the southeast coast. While florida has been largely spared, millions could still feel the brunt of dorian from georgia to southeastern virginia. Forecasters say flooding is a major threat. And eight foot storm surge could flood parts of charleston, South Carolina. The governor ordered the entire coast, 800,000 people to evacuate. If you are in an evacuation zone, you still have time to get out. The time to get out is running out. Reporter tybee island also faces the threat of storm surge. Especially during high tide in the overnight hours. There were reports of minor damage including localized flooding. One city official tells me once the storm passes, he hopes the area can reopen as soon as tomorrow. In atlantic beach, florida. She worked to get stanford to dedicate a plaque on campus using millers quote from her victim impact statement. The university and miller could never come to an agreement. I think overall they are handling this issue is poor. They have a hard time admitting to mistakes.
