Story. Reporter as you heard they are still investigating what caused the incident that could be seen across the bay area yesterday. As we reported yesterday they are looking at that monday night earthquake as a possible factor. It raises a serious question. What is going on with the ground in this area where there is so much fuel infrastructure . We have the hayward fault. We have the calaveras concorde fault. We have the greenville fall. We have a series of faults. Reporter our entire region is earthquake country. They usually happen along the major faultlines. Take a look at the usgs maps. They really can pop up all over the place. Anywhere in the bay area you can be right on top of an earthquake that is large enough to cause a shaking and moderate damage. Reporter the hayward fault suspected to be the most likely force of a major earthquake in our area doesnt just run the b note beneath oakland and berkeley hills. It continues north and just south of the very infrastructure we watch bern yesterday. The hayward fault extends all the way up. We mapped it on shore through. And recent work has mapped it across San Pablo Bay and connecting up to the rogers creek fault on the other side. You couldnt get back and forth. Traffic was backed up. A lot of smoke in the air. Lowlying footpath like this make it a major up rate. Four foot tall levy with a trail on top. The seawall that is currently about waist high might have to be much taller and thicker. This stretch of shoreline could also be raised and fortified with rocks and other materials to break up the waves. There may be some places where that is the only solution. Ideally it would be something that looks nice. And give some people enjoyment as well as protectionvo er prci taxes to pay for new levies. Burlingame thinks its projects will cost 100 million. Any time you have to go to the taxpayers with a laundry list of all the new taxes it is an uphill battle battle. We need to get ahead of it and get the community educated. Last year at mill valley which cancel Transitional Kindergarten Program program. It attracted only 61 students.
