Have moved since then. Reporter they have just about 10 to 15 minutes ago, we heard a loud applause. Then a lot of the crowd that gathered here at Mission Dolores park started to make their way northeast. Thats where Mission Police station is. Where that station is located. Just about a half mile away from the park. But, you can see, right here, even some of the social distancing circles. About 20 minutes ago, you could not see it. Its was that backed. There has been movement already. People making their way outside, i talked to organizers before this protest started. They said they wanted it to be peaceful today. But they want their voices to be loud. Take a look to my left as well. Theres still a steady stream of people coming in and out. But certainly, it is a lot different from what we saw, not too long ago when they gathered a loud rallying cry to honor the life of george floyd, the man killed while detained by poce. They said they want police and justice reform. We heard reports some of the protesters are planning to heard toward soma at 8th and bryant and make their way back to the Police Station at the Mission District. We will see where this crowd takes us. But you have seen the shots from our chopper 5 giving you a view of the thousands that showed up today. There was a mother and a child from San Francisco as well as a mother and child from berkeley. They plan to be out of this park and area in an hour. There is a curfew at 8 00 tonight. I asked the organizers about that. They said they are aware of the curfew, but will not direct anyone at the protest to leave if they choose to stay. So, well see what happens to the crowd. Once again, right now, right behind me, we have Mission High School. We have most of the park cleared out. Still thousands of people here. A majority of the crowd have left. Take a look at this crowd at 17th and valencia. It stretches just about as far as the eye can see. It has spread from sidewalk to sidewalk. It is packed in there very tight. I have not quite seen a scene like this in San Francisco if some time. They are protesting right in front of the Mission Substation here at 17th and valencia. In front of the substation, you can see sfpd officers behind barricades right now. The crowd is chanting at them. We have heard no justice, no peace, black lives matter. Hands up, dont shoot. This is a community that has been rocked by multiple incidents of Police Brutality over the years. People here are angry. This Mission High School crowd as we know is a very civically engaged crowd. No surprise there are 10,000 people in the crowd. We cant see where we parked our vehicle on valencia at this point. If you can listen, they are chanting dont shoot right now. It is a very, very large crowd. Across the street from the Mission Substation. Where that crowd was, it has arrived here in front of the Police Station. Liz, allen, back to you. A group wanting to draw attention to what happened in minneapolis. Walking from the Starbucks Reserve to gather and protest at the park on main street. Santa rosa Police Officers arrested more than 75 people who refused to disperse after curfew took effect last night. It happened after more than 200 people came out for a vigil honoring andy lopez and other victims of Police Brutality. Seven years ago, a deputy shot and killed the 13yearold boy who was holding a replica rifle. The deputy was cleared of wrong doing. They settled with the family for 3 million. Protesters gathered across southern california. Four separate black lives matter protests were held in new port beach. Hundreds of protesters rallied in front of city hall and anaheim. A line of Police Officers there keeping watch on the front steps of that building. Meantime, after days of vandalism and looting across los angeles, volunteers gathered cleaning up the damage to businesses in the downtown area. Volunteers scrubbed graffiti and picked up debris. I understand the uprising and the rage and the grief. But im also here to make sure that our community is healing and recovering and support it also. A National Guards man also seen helping volunteers and Community Members there in that cleanup process. Golden state warrior stars steph curry and Klay Thompson joined people in protests. They were among several hundred marchers taking part in the protest. Seeking justice for george floyd. It was organized by their teammate and bay area native juan toscano anderson. Damian lee was seen. Curry was joined by his wife aisha. Steven jackson and his close friend who was a close friend of george floyd and their families. Mill valleys mayor is apologizing for a comment she made in response to a citizens question during public comments. The question, what is mill valley doing to show black lives matter . It is a Council Policy that we do not take action on issues that are not of immediate level of importance. That set off a fire storm of response on social media with some calling for her resignation. Now, the mayor issued a statement saying in part, i deeply apologize for my choice of words at the council meeting. This is a sensitive moment and i didnt acknowledge the communitys deep sense of hurt and anger. For that, im truly sorry. San joses mayor is turning down the governors offer to activate the National Guard during the protests. Sam liccardo and the city manager and police chief believe it is important for the citys police to handle the situation. Governor newsoms offer came over the weekend as peaceful protests ended with violence in downtown san jose. Some members of the National Guard have been in san jose weeks now helping with pandemic relief. Not policing. Contra costa is easing restrictions on its shelter in place order. Starting today, shopping malls, other indoor Retail Stores will be allowed to reopen. Child care, business offices, also reopening. And sport Team Practices as well as summer camps can resume with modifications. In Sonoma County, parking lots and beaches and trails did reopen today. Residents had only been allowed the walk in coastal access. The beaches were closed between 11 00 a. M. And 5 00 p. M. And in santa clara county, restaurants will be allowed to welcome back customers for Outdoor Dining starting this friday. Major step forward for businesses in san pedro square in san jose where they have been closed for two months. If you have been yearning to get out to yosemite, you may not have to wait much longer. The park is expected to reopen as early as next wednesday or thursday, it depends on getting approval for camp sites and whether hotels in the surrounding communities can resume welcoming guests as well. Talk about it from a historical view and highlight recent events and ste conversation before children see images in the media. You make sense of the world for your child. In order to move us to a more antiracist society, we have to be willing to have these conversations. Reporter the talks can start as early as two years old, and should be age appropriate as children get older. Parents should ask kids what they have seen and how they are feeling. You can reassure younger kids about what you are doing to keep them safe. For older kids, it can be a teachable moment to discuss if they have experienced or witnessed racism. Meridith coordinates volunteers nationwide through friends, facebook, and her church group, the quilted workers guild. They have sewn and given for free 2,000 quilts and a thousand pillow cases to the survivors of fires. We are giving these to people no strings attached. Reporter meridith insist People Choose the one they want. It means more than just here is a nice quilt. We were giving them back their family history. Reporter meridith is also spearheading a project to sell masks to protect Health Care Workers from covid19. She is so generous. Reporter emily picked up 500 masks for compass cares. Meridith has pledged 2,000 masks for compass. Thank you very much, we appreciate it. The heat wave is going to break down the next couple of days. We are tracking some big changes as we head into the weekend. As the whole large scale flow in the atmosphere will rearrange itself. Lows dropping into the upper 50s and low 60s. The very coolest spots in the valleys and the north bay along the coast. Dipping down into the low 50s. Warmer than normal temperatures to start the day thursday and we are still going to be hot inland on thursday. Well above average temperatures around the bay as well. 10 degrees above normal with 15 degree above average temperatures further inland. Lets show you what we expect. 60s along the coast, upper 80s for the south bay and low 90s further inland. Contrasting temperatures as we look on the east side of the bay, cooler temperatures near the bay, but low to mid 90s in the trivalley. Low to mid 70s around the bay itself. 90 degrees for the north bay. Our neighbors to the north, still hot. In up ther half of the 90s for saint helena. Hot for early june.
