You still got a lot more rest than bay area firefighters. The San FranciscoFire Department says it responded to 110 fires between 3 00 in the afternoon yesterday and 3 00 this morning. All but two of the 110 were caused by fireworks. They also treated two young people for burn injuries. A 6acre inferno was just one fire started by fireworks. Overworked fire crews still managed to save them. Same story all over the bay area. It got so bad in contra costa, firefighters had to be rationed because there werent enough to go around. Reporter at more than 10 acres, this fire on the border of pittsburgh and concord was the largest in contra costa, but it was by no means the only one. A suspected dui driver is under arrest for hitandrun after allegedly running over and killing someone who was setting off fireworks on a residential street. It happened just before 10 00 last night at sea view drive and shore road in bay point. The chp says it appears the audi was speeding down the road. The victim was thrown into a parked car. The audi driver was later arrested in pittsburgh on suspicion of dui and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The victims car was stopped in the number 1 lane, but theyre not sure why. The other driver suffered moderate injuries and stayed at the scene. The chp says 19 people have died on california highways so far this Holiday Weekend and 585 have been arrested for dui.
