And len and michelle, we are looking at temperatures for today very similar to yesterday. But as we look to the weekend, were going to warm things up. Especially for tomorrow. Heres a live look with our san jose camera. And right now in san jose 61 degrees and upper 50s concord and oakland and livermore and for San Francisco, low 50s right now for santa rosa. As we take you through the day. Daytime highs near average for this time of year. So 66 in San Francisco this afternoon. Looking at 73 in oakland and 85 for san jose as well as for concord. But again, we are going to be heating up as we look ahead to the weekend. Ill let you know how warm it will get a minuve news desk an breaking news out of san jose after four people were shot overnight in two separate incidents. One a triple shooting on capital avenue that happened at about a quarter to 1 00 this morning. Three people were injured taken to the hospital after they were all shot in an apartment complex there along coal mar drive. Police shut down that roadway from capitol to story road and theyve been speaking to witnesses there and combing the scene for evidence. Earlier last night a man was shot at 24th street near san antonio. That was at about 11 15 last night. That man was also taken to the hospital. So both of these shootings are under investigation. Our reporter Katie Nielsen is on her way to the scene right now back to you happening today gavin newsom will announce statewide guidance for schools during the pandemic. This comes as various counties and School Districts have been adjusting the rules for reopening. Last night, San Jose Unified School district said students will not return to the classroom for at least the first six weeks of the fall semester. School Officials SayDistance Learning is the best option given the current spread of coronavirus. Honestly, i think it was the right choice that they could make. I know not everybodys going to be happy by the safety of our teachers and staff and children should be the first priority. Of district, more than four in five of its teachers support at home instruction. In contra costa county, the Liberty Union high School District may switch its august reopening to online only after two studentathletes tested positive for covid19. A third is awaiting test results. They had been part of summer conditioning camps at liberty and heritage high schools in brentwood. However, the superintendent says it appears they picked up the infection offcampus and no one else is showing symptoms. Several bay area counties cut out all of the indoor activities after the state put them on their monitoring list due to a spike in new covid19 cases. This morning, hair stylists and barbers are demanding the governor allow them to work outside just like restaurants and retailers. Some of my own coworkers are working at Grocery Stores and other places right now. To even keep their families you know surviving. State law requires that cosmetology and barbering must be performed indoors but advocates ing to take their business outside say the governor could easily waive the legislation. Reporter Georgia Governor Brian Kemp avoided questions about his executive order banning local mask mandates. The simple thing to do. Cvs and target are among the major retailers now requiring masks in the Stores Across the country. And update now on the aftermath of the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire in oakland. The fire at a converted warehouse killed 36 people in december of 2016. 32 of the 36 families who lost loved ones filed a lawsuit against oakland. Saying city officials ignored warning signs that the building was a fire trap. Last night the City Council Approved a settlement of 32. 7 million. A statement says the city continues to assert as the agreement provides that it is not liable for these tragic losses. The city decided to settle this case because of the cost benefit analysis. They say theyre not taking responsibility but they truly are by paying this sum amount. Theres no victory lap being taken by anyone in this case. Attorneys for the families say the case is not about the money. They say their clients just want to make sure a similar tragedy does not happen to anyone else. This morning, cal fire says pg e equipment sparked the biggest wildfire in Sonoma County history. The kincade fire burned more than 77,000 acres and attorney jack weaver a partner with wellty weaver and curry just filed suit on behalf of several victims whose lives and lively hoods were put at risk. On the fire watch right now. Evacuation orders are now lifted after a four alarm brush fire broke out last night north of vacaville. The fire started at about 8 40 near quail canyon road and highway 128 in the town of windsor. Says 20 acres have burned and the fire is 80 contained. So far no structures are damaged. In alameda county, fire crews are making progress on a grass fire burning in a rural area of livermore. It has scorched more than 250 acres since it started last night near tesla and mcloughlin roads and at last report, this fire was 60 contained. Not many homes nearby but chopper 5 spotted crews dousing in the central valley. The much larger mineral fire off of highway 198 has grown to more than 18,000 acres. New this morning, after a months long search a toddler battling end stage Kidney Disease got the lifeline he needs. Danya bacchus reports. There he is. Reporter the first year of 3yearold mavericks life was filled with hospital and doctors visits. We were in the e. R. All the time. Reporter maverick was diagnosed with stage five chronic Kidney Disease. Both were too small covered in cysts and not functioning properly. I feel like i failed him in some way in trying to get him everything that he needed for a successful life. Reporter he ended up on dialysis before his first birthday. His parents alexandria and gary were told it was a temporary but necessary solution and a transplant was inevitable. For almost a year while he had the dialysis his parents patiently waited for him to gain weight and grow in order to be eligible for a transplant. Then the search for a donor began. Both mavericks parents were tested. They found out first that gary was not a good match. Then came the good news, alexandria had the opportunity to give her son the gift of life again. I found out i was a match in november. He was listed in december. Children even small children like maverick can receive a kidney from an adult. Reporter she is the medical director of the Kidney Transplant Program at Childrens Hospital los angeles. The main issue actually has to do with blood vessels and making sure that the blood vessels in their body is big enough to accommodate the blood vessels from the kidney of an adult. Reporter its been seven months since mavericks transplant and he is thriving. He is more verbal and hes more active.
