Reporter the positivity cases for california is up. The hospitalization rate is up as well. So just how bad is it . Well, take a look at these number. A seven day average for california is now nearly 9200 cases a day. Just a week prior it was down to about 8300 per day. We still dont have widespread testing. So the covid testing site at the embarcadero in San Francisco, the wait there is two weeks. The other big problem, the state Health Secretary says when california started reopening a couple of weeks ago, many people treated that as a green light to resume normal life. If the data trends turn to such a place where we arent confident we will get there. There will be potential for further dimming in parts of the state certainly those counties that were monitoring closely. The testing site at Marina Village can test 500 people a day and they say the results will be back within 15 minutes. You will need proof of insurance if you want a test. In Santa Clara County, testing continues today at three new sites. The county Service Center auditorium in san jose, san jose high school, and the south county annex in gilroy. Tests are free and no appointment is needed. The California Department of health is stepping in this morning to help with a deadly coronavirus outbreak at a nursing home in walnut creek. They sent a strike team to Manor Care Health services and with 12 patients there have died and 130 others including facility workers have been infected. Update now out of marin county. New fines have been approved for people and businesses who dont follow health orders. Other violations of covid19 orders. The first approach will be intervention and education. If that doesnt work people could be fined anywhere from 25 to 500. As for businesses the penalties range from 250 to 10,000. If the current vaccine that the company is working on ends up proving effective. Then the u. S. Is going to pay almost 2 billion to reserve 100 million doses for americans. Once it receives all of the you know, the green lights to go ahead. So that the part of a deal that theyve made with other Drug Companies as well. But in the meantime, an early trading, pfizer is looking up on the news and the government has the option of buying about 500 million other doses as well if that first load works out. A late night vote, Oakland City Council voted on whether to slash millions from the Police Budget. And they were deadlocked. The mayor casting the deciding vote with a no on the amendment. The Police Budget wont be cut for now. Council members agreed though Police Reform is a must but there was major dig agreement over slashing 50 million from police roughly. One proposal on the table was to cut the Department Budget by a over the next two years. But mayor schaaf says the council already redirected quote unprecedented 14. 3 million from opd as well as launching a thoughtful and responsible process over the next nine months to analyze a 50 reduction in Police Spending by our next budget action. What we are proposing is about setting us up for success in the next step. We have stated an intention to have a very significant change. The Police Officers union and the chief of police have both warned against additional cuts. Meantime, voters in San Francisco will get to weigh in on police staffing. The board of supervisors just voted to place an amendment on the november ballot. It would allow supervisors to decide how many officers are needed based on biannual assessments instead of a set quota. New this morning, one man in virginia says he has some guidance to help the current state of the country. Richard stewart built a museum on a peninsula in petersburg the locals call pocahontas island. Its the oldest black community in the country and the museum was built to remember its history. Nestled against the river where slave ships once sailed. After the emancipation a lot of slaves came to the area and Richard Stewart bought the land to make sure peop be denied the right to the river. The museum is retrofitted with artifacts showcasing the islands past. And god saved this place. Because this was the ghetto and crime and then after that, americas first black governor appropriated money for montgomery grants and that helped us come back. Stewart is hopeful someone will step up and keep the museum going for future generations.
