The white house says all of President Trumps Campaign Events have either been canceled or moved on line as he undergoes treatment for the coronavirus. Its a dramatic shift for a campaign that has relied until now on inperson rallies and gatherings across the country. It also raises questions about the two remaining president ial debates and even how joe biden will proceed with just one month to go before election day. Ed okeefe has more from washington this morning. Good morning to you. Reporter elaine, good to see you. Good morning. Can i take my mask off . I guess i can, all right. Ed on, friday the Biden Campaign took down all negative ads before fridays announcement, though, the former Vice President relentlessly criticized President Trumps handling of the coronavirus. Tuesday shed the president had been total he said the president had been totally irresponsible. How does joe biden move forward with messaging now . You know, that remains an unanswered question and one i think theyre going to have to assess day to day. The fact that they pulled thetive advertising yesterday afternoon the negative advertising yesterday afternoon before we got word that the president was headed to walter reed is a sign they understand that, you know, they have to be very careful now in the coming days about exactly how they proceed. Theyre spending tens of millions of dollars and about a dozen battleground states on television, across social media, pushing a message that raises doubts about the president s leadership, not only of the pandemic but of the economic recovery that is under way. Thats been the central focus of the Biden Campaign. So do you keep that up over the next 31 days, or do you to find a way to shift . Thats what they havent sorted out yet. Now the Trump Campaign, not only does President Trump have covid, but his Campaign Manager has tested positive, as well. What does that Campaign Look Like now if we have any idea about what it does over the next 30 or 31 days . The fact that theyve canceled all inperson events, that theyre going to hold virtual events, something they have not done much of, and that not only does the president , his Campaign Manager have covid19, so does the chairwoman of the Republican National committee. So essentially the top three political figures in this campaign, especially the candidate himself, sidelined for by this at least for the next few days if not the next few weeks. It, again, is an example of how this is completely unprecedented. One thing we know, at least through last night, the advertising, the fundraising appeals continued. The Trump Campaign was still sending out messages asking for money and, you know, attacking joe biden just at the time the Biden Campaign said they were pulling back that kind of advertising. I have a feeling through the weekend well get a better sense of how the two continue to operate. The other big question, do they debate in midoctober in miami . Can they make that late october debate in nashville . As of this morning, two members of the Judiciary Committee have tested positive for the coronavirus. What effect does that have on the Supreme Court confirmation hearings . Guys, nobody has answers this moning because weve never been here. Its mike lee of utah, republican, tom tillis of North Carolina last night, announced that he has it, as well. Tillis locked in one of the most expensive reelection campaigns right now down in the tar heel state. They are two members of a committee that is set to meet a week about a week, ten days from now, to consider the Amy Coney Barrett nomination. Notably both of them said that they would try to be back within ten days, which is about the time left before that Committee Hearing begins. Of course, doctors say this thing doesnt end in ten days. It can go on for several weeks. So again, another thing just completely up in the air. Uncharted waters all around, ed. Thanks for keeping us up to date. Well, the u. S. Is not making much progress in lowering the coronavirus numbers. This week, 25 states reported more cases than the previous week. On friday more than 54,000 new cases were reported. Thats the most in a single day since midaugust. There are now more than 7. 3 million known infections in the u. S. The death toll has climbed to more than 208,000. Here to discuss the president and more is cbs news contributor dr. David agus. Good morning, doc. How are you . Im good. Thank you. Yeah. Reports are that President Trump is experiencing mild symptoms, lowgrade fever, and a cough. What will his treatment at walter reed look like . When he started and tested positive and started to have mild symptoms, the first thing they did was give an experimental drug, a cocktail. Two mono cronal antibodies, they were cloned and made into a drug and administered so he could fight the virus. They would block the virus from getting in the cell. Then yesterday evening he started a daily course of remdesivir, another intravenous antiviral medicine, as well as what we call supportive care, make sure he has enough flurkid make sure the numbers are correct in the hospital. The president , 74 years old. He is technically obese. How does that factor into his treatment and his prognosis . Both of those are certainly risk factors. His biggest risk factor is being male. Being male is the biggest risk factor of all of them. They put him at higher risk of complications which why theyre doing aggressive therapy. Antiviral and the monoclonal antibodies to block the virus. Former Vice President joe biden was, what, ten feet away from the president , also Chris Wallace closer to him than the audience members. How concerned should people be about or doctors we should say about joe biden and his risk to coronavirus . You know, theres always risk. You can never bring risk to zero, especially when someone has the virus. What we do know is that on tuesday they were all the day of the debate they were all tested which a probe went to their nose, and there was no virus there by a very sensitive test. That doesnt mean they didnt have the virus, but it probably means they werent infectious. Im not as worried about joe biden. Obviously the problem with this virus is it doesnt discriminate. If you get enough particles, you will get sick no matter who you are. A lot of people are questioning this contact traysing. The president is around tracing. The president is around a lot of people, has been in the past. And exposure certainly is where everyone is looking right now. How important is it going to be to follow that that line of Contact Tracing . Critical. Weve seen a number of cases now within staff and the white house and outside the white house, and you know, theyre actually going back to video. You say who did the president interact with at close distance for a long period of time without a mask, those people need to be put into quarantine as part of the Contact Tracing program, and tested on a regular basis. Otherwise, they can go out and potentially be asymptomatic and continue to spread the virus. If you want to stop it cold, you have to contact trace, and you have to act on that data. All right. Dr. David agus, thank you. Jeff . Thank you. Not since when president reagan was shot in an assassination attempt nearly 40 years ago has there been this level of concern over a president s health. The white house has not been forthcoming about President Trumps condition. Well turn to cbs news senior political analyst john dickerson, he is also the author of the hardest job in the world the
