And i expect its a little bit more. Yeah, and its probably not gonna be the last round of those offshore winds and high fire danger that we had to contend with. Tonight were still under a red flag warning in the north bay mountains and the east bay hills and valleys until 8 00 tomorrow morning. Wind gusts on top of the highest peaks could reach up to 40 miles an hour. Thats a bit of a stretch. And the humidity mostly has been okay so far this evening. But could dip to lower than 30 . This is our fire wheretracker. All the circles on the map are representing a different station that we get data from. Theres over 300 of them. And only nine have red flag conditions. A few in the east bay hill, a few in the mountains. It only takes one. Im more concerned about the sunday, monday, tuesday timeframe. Thats when we have the fire weather watching that goes into effect midday sunday. Gusty conditions sunday night into early monday. Stronger gusts over 60 miles an hour. Thats a conservative estimate. And the humidity could dip into the Single Digits by monday afternoon. Well talk more about that combination, and the good news of cooler temperatures for the weekend in just a few minutes. The grass fire that started near interstate 580 in oakland burned dangerous close to some homes. Andrea borba on how firefighters prevented the fire from becoming a potential tragedy. Reporter when the fire started just before 5 00 this evening, there was a real concern about that chevron gas station behind me and the potential for a greater catastrophe. Firefighters believe this fire began in a homeless encampment. It quickly spread to the brush. And flachls lapped at the edge of a gas station and nearby apartment building. We have a lot of these homeless encampments everywhere and they have a lot of stuff. Im not surprised. Its not the first time. Firefighters in oakland got a jumpstart on putting this fire out. There was a strike team prepositioned around this neighborhood due to the red flag conditions that. Funding came from the state. A homicide suspect is in Police Custody tonight after a hostage standoff that lasted for several hours in oakland today. The whole situation was centered around a shoe store near high street. Police say the suspect was wanted for a double homicide in oakland. Eventually that suspect released the hostage he was holding and later walked out of the building. The suspect did fire six rounds during the course of that standoff. Its a very tense and unromped situation. And were thankful and fortunate that it ended safely. A 41 mystery is solved. Police identified the body of a woodland woman who disappeared in 1979. Police say a body that washed up in venetia is delores wolf. She left behind four children. One provided investigators with a dna swab to make the positive match. Her killer has never been found. As we head into tomorrow, this big area of High Pressure over the Pacific Ocean is gonna weaken bathe. What does that mean for us . The offshore wins are going to weaken a bit. And were gonna see some cooler, falllike temperatures sneaking up into the bay area. To some extent tomorrow. But its gonna be even more noticeable as we head into saturday and sunday. Slightly lower temperatures for a change in inland parts of the bay area. Temperatures are cooling off nicely. Good view downtown from treasure island, into the upper 40s in santa rosa. Most temperatures have dropped into the 50s. Clinging to 60 degrees in livermore. Well drop a few deeks. Its not going to be an overall chilly tonight. Upper 40s in napa. Low 50s across the board. A couple degrees cooler than we were this morning. Warmer than normal for this time of year. And high temperatures tomorrow are going to be within five degrees of average for late october. Mid to upper 60s with 70 degrees around the bay. Mid to upper 70s inland. Lets zoom around and well talk about the fire conditions by the weekend and early next week. Low 60s around the coast. Low to mid70s on the south end of the bay. 76 in san jose. Low 80s on the east side of the diablo range. Mid to upper 60s, around around the bay with low to mid70s for the north bay. And farther north, temperatures arent going to be that warm farther inland. In the upper 70s and low 80s for northern sonoma, napa counties, mendocino and lake counties. The low humidity and gusty winds are going to kick in into the second half of the weekend and early next week. 5 00 in the evening on sunday. And at this point, the relative humidity levels arent that local. And the winds arent that strong. So the speed of these wind arrows will change with the forecast model data as we head into sunday night. Huge drop in humidity levels as that dry offshore wind really kicks in. So you can see the wind there is racing along. And humidity is down into the teens. This is when were concerned about the fire weather. And those concerns are gonna be with us throughout the day on sunday. On monday. This isnt just a few spots. This is most of the bay area. And the offshore wins are still gonna be strong by monday afternoon. That fire weather watching is in effect through 11 00 on Tuesday Morning is likely to be upgraded to a red flag warning. Even with temperatures that are gonna be excessively hot. When the air is that dry, it doesnt matter what the temperature is. Especially when the winds are that strong.
