The hamasrun government. But the fear is that civilians are getting caught in the middle. 900 people died, borders are shutdown and with israel stopping the entry of the food, fuel, medicines, humanitarian groups are warning hospitals are getting overwhelmed and they are running out of supplies. Across the border it is a gutwrenching look at the aftermath of a deadly attack on a music festival. One of the sites of saturdays coordinated assaults of hamas. The military saying 1,000 people were killed including women and children. At least 14 americans are also dead. Americans are among the more than 100 people taken hostage by hamas. Today we heard from one mother whose american son attended that festival and last seen in a bomb shelter that was raided by hamas. And hamas came in after the gunfire settled down. Anyone who can walk stand up and walk out. We are told he was completely calm. I think he was probably in shock and he got up and he walked out with five other people, young people from the music festival. Two young women, three other young men. They were put on a pick up truck and driven away by hamas. President biden says the u. S. Is helping with the hostage recovery effort. Hamas is threatening to kill one every time israel bombs them without warning. Bay area israelis and palestinians are united in fear for their families and friends half a world away. As we explain there is fear, there is frustration and helplessness and a shared desire for peace. Trying to develop experiments to understand some basic questions. Reporter working from home in pleasanton a long way from his lab where he is a student. We try to understand how this process has an implication on real life development. Reporter his backyard further from his home country of israel where he was born and raised coming to the u. S. Two years ago to focus on his research. Since the attacks on saturday he says it is hard to think about much else. Another friend that lost a nephew, a cousin, a brother and it is a devastating situation. Reporter as a former member of the military he says it is frustrating to be far away from his homeland during this time of conflict. In a way he feels helpless. We are one people. The people that are dying are my family. Reporter on the other side of the bay, San Francisco native is equally concerned for her large extended family in the gaza strip. She just took her children there a couple months ago to meet their cousins for the first time. A few weeks ago they were wondering when they could go back. Now the question is if there will be a family to go back to at all. My biggest fear is a fear that i have had for many years that i will never see them again, never hear from them again, they will be killed by, you know, an israeli missile. Reporter she say Family Medicine physician here in the u. S. Born and raised in california and acknowledges her reality is different than that of her family half a world away. I live in this beautiful neighborhood. I have my freedom. I dont have to physically fight for my freedom. I can tell you from my family, most, many palestinians are not political. They just want to live. Every time i talk to my family and i ask them, what message do you want to get to the world . If i could share anything what would it be . They always tell me the same answer. We just want to live, we want to be treated as humans and we want our basic human rights. That is it. With all of the fear here, a synagogue reached out to the police for extra protection. The police say they are not aware of threats yet, but they have been doing drive byes. They are not aware of threats to local mosques or synagogues. In the meantime, a San Francisco Business Owner is in tel aviv. He office his way to see family members just today when the city sirens went off again. That was people running out of their cars in the middle of the street and finding cover. There were missiles exploding above me, the sirens were going off. So, people from all over the area had to run and duck and find cover because we were not near bomb shelters. Manny said that the past few days he has been volunteering with a group sending supplies to troops and families near the frontlines. Most major u. S. Airlines stopped flying in and out of tel aviv. That looks to be the case for the foreseeable future. American airlines is suspending flights through december 4th and delta will not fly there until at least next month. In his first Public Comment since the attack the president said today the u. S. Stands with israel let there be no doubt that the United States has israels back. We will make sure the country can defend themselves today, tomorrow as we always have. The president says an Aircraft Carrier has been moved to the Eastern Mediterranean to bolster u. S. Presence as needed. As for what is next. A stanford professor said it is a huge set back for any hope of peace between israel and palestinians who already have a very complicated past. There is no question that the way in which hamas is carried out this military operation has been brutal. It is involved intentional civilians, these are war crimes. And yet it is important to remember that there is an underlying conflict here that goes back for many, plane years. We need to understand and be supportive of the israeli interest in selfdefense and looking out for its own population. I hope it does not lend us into, lead us to a too simplistic account of good guys and bad guys which is a weakness that we have in the United States. We like good guys and bad guys. And i am afraid that the situation in israel and palestine is more complicated than that. We will continue to follow the latest developments out of the middle east. Stay with us with air, streaming on cbs news bay area and on line at kpix. Com. Now, to oakland now where the feds talk about mail theft and assault on postal workers. Lets go to eric, had a little brain fog there, how are you doing . I think you nailed the branding on that. Oh, good, thank you. We had a little bit of rain coming through yesterday. Same thing today. Almost like an instant replay. Two separate systems, yesterday, a weak cold front coming through and dropping the rain. That is the time lapse from today. Although i could of played yesterdays. They looked the exact same. You see the band of rain that came through an hour ago. If you look through there, you can see where the cold front is on that. We will track it coming up in just a minute. I will show you how the south bay is going to see the chance from that. Before we get there. What kind of rain have we gotten from this so far . You would be surprised. We have not gotten anything. Those are the temperatures from today. Instead, lets bring up what the rainfall totals are. Goose eggs everywhere until you start to come up the north bay. That is more than what we have gotten for santa rosa. It has rained more than this. I know there are places on this map showing zeros. You are saying we got rain. This is what we have gotten in the gages out there that we can check in on. More reports coming in from places like marin. More on the rain in one second. To go along with that these are the day time highs today. The nice thing about this is, pick out your part of the bay, wherever your day time high was today you are doing the same number tomorrow. In one sense it is a review of todays highs. It is a look at tomorrows day time highs, tomorrow will be different in one way, though. It will be sunny. Pretty much lose all of the influence from the weak cold fronts for about two days. Let me show you what that looks like. We will lose our map here and go to the highresolution forecast. Here is the rain, super impose from that and go to the forecast imagery. Showing you the same line. You can trace it. There is the weak cold front. It is falling apart just like yesterdays did right as it comes across the bay. It will still try to get to the south bay. We will see what it looks like through the next several hours, 10 00, 11 00, it is pretty much done, midnight it is out of here. Not much to it. Looking at the rainfall totals you might see a little here for the north bay. More interesting at this point now to look at the south bay. On the map, santa clara valley, santa cruz, any rain out of this . Maybe. If you are lucky. And, tomorrow, it is gone. Wednesday, thursday, you know, we are not looking at this stuff at all. In fact, lets get into the sevenday forecast and show you what stands out. Start by looking at the inland valleys, the microclimate. Go to tomorrow and thursday, right in here. Sunshine, a warm up. Even though tomorrows numbers are almost identical to today, now you have the warmest day. Plenty of sunshine. Next weak cold front starts coming our way. Temperatures down on friday. By the time we get to saturday, they thicken up and the temperatures drop. By monday hinting at the most bill possibility. It tends to weaken as they arrive and fall apart and start putting it in here on monday and tuesday. Behind the scenes on the forecasting. It is looks like it might end updoing that for monday and tuesday. And it will be more of the drier and warmer day if that is the way you like it and you get more fall that comes back in again for friday and for the weekend. All right, back to you. All right, thank you very much, darren. And a Small School District drawing big reaction with the banning. Yes. The school, one school, kindergarten to 8th grade.
