KRON KRON 4 News At 6am July 12, 2024

Before the days over right now the wildfire continues to burn we dont see the huge flames that we saw in the overnight hours but now that the sun is up you can clearly see what it did to this community you can see some of the firefighters right there on the hillside. It has burned so far about 90 acres, firefighters are on the scene here. Its such a remote area that you can see the hose has to go along this ridgeline here just to get to the firefighters and at one point they actually had to take to the air and drop retardant down because he was not obviously an area you drive to to access a fire. Hydrant let me show you video of whats called the colleen fire. It started late last night and its right next to thousands of homes in this community that at one point they actually had to evacuate the people just out of fear that the fire could jumped the fire line and spread throughout this neighborhood. Fortunately theyve been able to get the upper hand on the fire and the people were told them go back to their homes. No threat to their homes at this particular time were not hearing of any major injuries. But the fire continues to burn there are plenty of hot spots in the Fire Department well be here throughout the day. They hope to have full containment by the end of the day now keep in mind containment means they corralled it it doesnt mean that its over at last check and we should get an update in about an hour from now at last check the fire was about 20 contained. Let me show you robin marty how close it is to the community theres the hillside there. And this is colleen and blossom avenue you can see all the homes. Right next to it fortunately it was not really windy at the time so the embers did not carry on top to some of the homes here in catching the homes on fire. So thats great news. But this is just a at ts so to speak about wildfire season. It has been tremendously dry over the past couple of weeks and months look at the hillside, it is yellow because all that vegetation has dried out so fortunately. The firefighters jumped all over this. It could have been a disaster. Theyre so relieved to be back in their homes this morning. Well thanks lot. Thats will tran reporting for us from the south bay but speaking of bone dry weather, lets go ahead and get a check of the Weather Forecast from days bar, has more on that and some changes in store for us hi dave. Well good morning morning, good morning. Everybody we dont have a whole lot of hope for any rain in our future but at least some cooler temperatures some winds but they will be the onshore direction. Already pulling their magic right now we can see the shot of the Golden Gate Bridge and some of that kind of a guy called fog clouds a little bit here. There are those the flag flapping around little bit indicating we do have some winds. The current projection of what we got going on in the winds there you can well pick up a little bit this afternoon. And a little bit overnight. It will see some into saturday afternoon as conditions clear after some predawn showers again back to the fog issue here this will probably start to mix out of the next couple hours going back to a mostly sunny mode on balance for today. Our temperatures check and like this 50s 49 up there to santa rosa. A couple token 60s for example in antioch in san jose. The label at 65, but in the air can circulate around quite a bit there and it doesnt allow temperatures to fall as much. At night also doesnt allow them rise either 66 by 10 00am at 1 oclock were at 71. Todays effort we wont see as much in the way the 80s on the board and will be completely eradicated by tomorrow and also into sundays whipple bit of a cooling trend for this folks in line waiting for a break in all this heat robin back to you. All right, thank you dave another big story that were following for you this morning wrote more protests overnight all across the bay area with more demonstrations planned for today, lets check in with kron 4 Sarah Stinson who is live in San Francisco with the details good morning sara. Robin good morning yeah, these protests continue and they just continue to become more and more peaceful and full of hope and people are saying theyre not giving up in fighting for justice not only for george floyd but for all of the other names that have been lost due to Police Brutality take a look at this video from San Franciscos. Protests are protests is a very peaceful protests is more of a caravan and it happened yesterday afternoon it was a caravan for justice route in San Francisco starting in the Inner Richmond going through the presidio. Marina castro and then back to enrichment each car was stamped with its own message. Many made big signs that read black lives matter and white silence and no justice, no peace and we talked with a few of those protesters they explain why its so important to continue fighting for this and get this message across to fight for real change. Fundamentally we need leadership we need human compassion right now, im doing my little part in the world to try to show some that were why people of privilege we have an obligation i think to stand up for communities that are press and. His silence is is admitting that youre siding with the oppressors. And big peaceful protest happened at city hall in oakland as well you can see people rallying peacefully and marching spreading a message against Police Brutality and racism all wanting justice for george floyd has been no he was laid to rest yesterday you can watch people marching down telegraph and also sitting peacefully in solidarity theres been no reports no no reports of any violence that occurred any a confrontation with police at any of those theres also protest in fremont as well and south San Francisco really all over the bay area people gathering peacefully really just sticking with this and making sure that this doesnt just go away and that this conversation continues. Im live in San Francisco Sarah Stinson back to you more on what what is the state 11 now of the protest and its nice to see the peaceful protest and its nice so many organized by students. Thank you sarah. Well students from los altos in Mountain View took part in a black lives matter protests, dozens of them gathered on the corner of san antonio and El Camino Real and now to yesterday afternoon. They held up signs that you can see right there that read black lives matter no justice, no peace and make racism wrong again. Also in the south bay the curfew in san jose is over and at the same time police are defending their actions and what they say amounted to force met with force San Jose Police chief eddie garcia showed these clips of violent clashes with police. Were vandalism arson and other crimes. Evidence to prove his point police say that officers were hit with crowbars rocks frozen Water Bottles and chunks of asphalt he says the use of tara grant tear gas and rubber bullets were justified. Your officers love this city. And they protected and they will continue to do so officers actions have saved lives. Property and ensured that Peaceful Demonstrations are able to continue here in san jose. Chief garcia again apologized and pledged a full investigation into allegations that one officer was taunting the protesters. As protests continue in the bay area and across the country as well local medical experts are talking about how these Mass Gatherings could spread the coronavirus kron fours gayle ong has more on that. To how many people from all walks of life in all 50 states actually all over the world reacted to this gives me hope that people care as they do so many are Wearing Masks but almost no one is 6 feet apart by time i recognize there is a pandemic. I worry about those protesters in this zoom discussion moderated by doctor Robert Wachter chair of medicine at ucsf medical experts discuss the waging war against covid19, but its also been tough to remind people about the virus. We now have a country that service reads 2 different narratives or sees 2 different sets of realities and the question is can you can you imagine something that unifies people toward a toward a common and in this current political environment an optimist i think that this is the moment and things are changing. But its up to us to keep the momentum going its not just going to happen experts weighed in on the impact of social determinants on help this pandemic shows us. Inequities we talk about in our health care system. Or if theyre not just shocking their deadly. We have a long way to go on unfortunately. The the institutions and the parts of the country there are at least well served, are ones are going to be hard as the country faces the dual challenges of covid19 and protest. Participants say just having this conversation is a step in the right direction that didnt begin roads or wooded the gunman, 1619 you could say. And i think were all trying to we won narrative out of the stuff there is also talks about pivoting more to telemedicine and navigating the financials of American Health care after taking a hit from covid19.
