Just fell into the 60s holding on to 70 through the evening. Oakland at 60 right now with berkeley and San Francisco in the midfifties later today, a slightly cooler day but our coolest of weather still ahead come the weekend talking about that still ahead back to you thank you john on our top story, a grim outlook for the coronavirus there are now more than 2 million cases. In the United States and doctors are afraid that were going to see a spike of new infections in the next few months. Right now we have between 800 and a 1000 people dying every single day in america. And all of the models all the data suggest that things are going to get worse in have increases the virus hasnt gone away. Its not like were looking for for the second wave. The first wave isnt gone. The Harvard GlobalHealth Institute predicts a 100,000 more coronavirus deaths in the u. S. By september a 100,000 people dying. 12 states including california has seen hospitalization. Rise since memorial day. And theres been at least a 10 increase in week to week cases reported in 19 states. And despite that more bay area businesses are starting to reopen and that includes the dmv kron fours reyna harvey is live in walnut creek with details. Does mean that anybody can go for any reason or is it still limited. Im so glad you asked me that because that is the most important thing to note this morning. You still have to have an appointment if you show up at the dmv office so last time we were at the dmv offices throughout the bay area that really opened up and a lot of people darya that turned away. You dont want this to happen to you today if you show up at the dmv so again you have to have an appointment theyre asking for that a couple of things that they are going to be helping you out with today, youre able to come in and do some in person transactions but theyre also limiting though so a few that i saw on their website you can pay for registration for vehicle impounded because of registration related issues. You can also reinstate a suspended or revoked drivers license. You can also process a real id and a lot of people have been trying to get that done before the deadlines now they are still not holding behind the wheel driving test. Those are not available. Also things are going to look different when you come down here. Last time we were at the dmv people wearing mask that is still in effect. So if you show up here today. You want to make sure you have a mask they also have been doing a lot of the Services Like i saw last time outside so processing the line making sure people wear masks along with making sure their social distancing, but again if you come down here today to any of the dmv those are a 169 of those field offices. Opening today, jill dont just you can show up you have to make sure you have an appointment. Well for now reporting here wannacry Craig Harvey Kron 4 news all right, thanks a lot rayna james. Well one of the south bays largest parks is reopening this morning after being shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic course there will still be some guidelines and changes that you have to keep in mind to explain all this with kron fours will tran standing by live in san jose and will for the folks that live down there probably thrilled by this news. All my goodness because you want to get outside and feel good enjoy. The weather you talked about the weekend at the last hour with the weekends couple of days ahead of us. So this is Perfect Timing look at the signs behind me james. These signs will go away at 8 oclock this morning you can see it says closed due to Hazardous Conditions and the condition were talking about his coronavirus they didnt want people to go through here because it would be hard to enforce social distance, especially with the shelter in place throughout the country and specifically Santa Clara County which took off to a fast start in terms of coronavirus cases this will open in about 2 and a half hours from now it will close at 8 oclock at night right before sunset so get out here and enjoy yourself. This is a very popular park in san jose thousands of people go rough here on a very busy day. But this is a new management under new management as i like to say this even though it will be open there are some new things that you have to keep in mind a lot of people sometimes go through here and they enjoy the fossetts especially if they forgot to bring water, theyre reminding people of you go here bring your own water because those fossetts they dont want people to share and then i want people to touch so that will not be available to you and with the weekend ahead a lot of people come here and try to barbecue those common areas where people picnic they use their barbecue grill that a lot of people spend time that you have friends around that still not available as well. You have to go through here. Theyre encouraging you to wear a mask and practice social distance keep in mind as far as the parking lots, yes, theyre open as well but they will no longer accept cars. After 6. 30. James, i know you live a little bit north of this location, ive been here a couple of times this is a marvelous park and if you live around here and there are neighborhoods just right in front of me. Now you can walk your dog ride a bike do whatever you can. He cant go to work unfortunately for a lot of people at least try to get outside and enjoy some sunshine at alum around park back to you there you go, yeah and in addition to alamo park there will we also have Yosemite National park reopening to visitors as well. Park Officials Say its part of their plan for the phase reopening. Course will be limited capacity in fact theyre looking at only allowing about 50 of their normal capacity in and only allowing 1700 vehicle passes per day people who plan to visit the park will have to reserve a spot on line but at least the parks reopening thats great dari lot of folks excited about that. Oh yeah disneyland in july 17th is opening 2 how about that park and that happens to be the 65th anniversary. When disneyland first opened Downtown Disney thats first open because you know you gotta buy stuff. James july night thats the day for that theyre getting a while limited capacity there. You have to have a reservation. And the. Nighttime shows the character meet and greets and other big attractions. Those are going to happen yet. But then youre going to have the whole park open. For you know the rides and everything in july 17th. But again the capacity is limited i was thinking this is a dream because you know like thats what thats few tickets. So you have figure that out. Now of a story in San Francisco restaurants are set to reopen tomorrow with Outdoor Dining only have bars wont be allowed to reopen for another couple of months, but some city leaders are pushing to speed that up properties. Taylor force act explains. What were hoping for. Is that the city understands that. There are hundreds of responsible for operators in the city. That are ready. And eager. To open their doors and safe and responsible way Anthony Healy london owns several bars in San Francisco, including breast tracks and in mina in his valley. Here at the nina london says its a perfect space for socially distancing the large outdoor patio waiting to be used we have the space and the ability. Where with all the expertise to operate safely and the restaurant next that we know work with throughout the year according to the citys current timeline. Mars without a kitchen cant reopen until mid august while restaurants can reopen for Outdoor Dining on friday and Indoor Dining the july judging by San Franciscos response to the pandemic supervisor matt haney says its time to readjust there are indicators and what weve seen. Allow for many of the other counties that reopening right now. Are at where San Francisco is or even a little bit behind in terms of cases and hospitalizations he says hes now working with the Mayors Office. To move to a sooner reopen date for Indoor Dining and bar, reopens i do think theres a lot of support a lot of consensus and speaking to the Mayors Office in speaking to other supervisors. To move quicker. And what has been put in place right now as it relates to bars as it relates to Indoor Dining, but we still need to get the state to give us that variance like a lot of other counties have been given. To move forward. He says the city would need permission from the state until then owners like healing london are planning to find Food Partners in the event that the city allows them to reopen for your service, we are in discussions seversl food vendors trying to figure out which one works parents of all those guidelines as well thats it but us open. Already the city would allow bars to do this in its latest raft of whats called the shared Spaces Program and thats where the city allows restaurants to use its public spaces like sidewalks for outdoor seating for bars to participate in that there are a few conditions in to name a few. The bar would have to serve food and it would also have to have an approved permit naming the source of that food or that food partner and San FranciscoTaylor Bisacky kron 4 news. Time now is 5. 10 still ahead bay area toll plazas are completely cash free just yet well tell you when toll collectors are expected to be back in the booth. And outside today, temperatures will rise into the upper 80s and low 90s still for inland areas. 60s along the 5. 13 right now and were checking out the weather its been pretty toasty in my neighborhood a little breezy too at times weve got john trouble in the weather center. Taking a closer look at what to expect today, hey john hey guys, yeah were keeping the wind around this weekend. But we are going to ease off of some of that heat in the days to come just definitely welcome news. For a lot of us that are further inland that have been feeling a lot of it this starting to see some of the fog that we had right across the berkeley in the east bay beginning to retreat out towards the coast where you can see it towards the Golden Gate Bridge in the city of San Francisco started seeing some of that fog a loosening its grip on the east bay which is good news for central travelers who are heading into the east bay this morning as for stormtracker 4 very quiet picture outside were not going to look at much cloud cover today once fog burns off this highpressure ridge which is kept to so warm is still in place but to our west a low pressure area is going to drag in some cooler air in the days to come resulting in a nice cool down come the weekend the soon as tomorrow our inland areas are in for quite the noticeable drop in temperatures. So today were holding on to Clear Conditions a bit on the breezy side tomorrow winds pick up youll see a brief round of overnight sprinkles for coastal spots, although heavier rainfall can be expected in the Sierra Nevada friday night into saturday morning as this cooler air from really settles in. This means friday and saturday going to be your coolest days of the forecast aside from that we do see temperatures rising pretty swiftly into next week, shell have to enjoy that brief cool down for inland spots. 60s for your highs and San Francisco, another coastal areas today. Definitely cooler than we were yesterday at the coast 60s and 70s from burlingame on up to the airport will foster city at 79 degrees down the Mountain View youll be in the 80s south bay daytime highs today in the mid to upper 80s with san jose 86 santa clara, your peak at 85 degrees today east bay daytime high certainly still warm but not as warm as we were yesterday. 80s mixed with 90s for the inland east bay conquered youll be at 90 degrees in the meantime Oakland Berkeley and richmond, not too bad in the upper 70s. Vacaville fairfield pittsburgh. Antioch in youngsville among areas still in the 90s. Well 60s out along the coastline in Stinson Beach in point rays. Tomorrow and saturday as i mentioned your cooler days of the forecast. Do expect a brisk wind along with those cooler temperatures on these days. Sunday, we start to see temperatures warming on up and by monday of next week. Its back near 90 degrees for inland areas. Back to you all right, thank you very much john. Heres a quick check of a few bridges for you as we gauge the traffic here at what is at 5. 15 this morning, the bay bridge looking alright traffic moving through the toll plaza itself just fine, no backup. To report just chance youre fine here san mateo bridge. Volume building of course as you can see the tail lights certainly building. But youre still moving at the limit no accidents or incidents, slowing it down on this span and according to chp lagares no major accidents anywhere around the bay right now so so far its easy moving. And on a related note, barry commuters can expect to see toll takers back in the booths at some point here in the next few weeks and although the longterm goal is to phase out toll takers and go cashless Officials Say theyre not prepared to do that just yet kron fours Maureen Kelly explains. Its these eastbound fast track lanes of the benicia bridge that Bay Area Transportation planners want all the toll plazas that state run bridges to look like with no toll booths in the way to force commuters to reduce speed going completely cashless has been a long term goal that was expected to come to fruition over the next couple of years. And then coronavirus hit. Toll takers were ordered how due to safety and the planned to go to all electronic tolling went into effect immediately. The switch was made smoother by the fact that bridge traffic all but disappeared, but now is the bay area is beginning to reopen congestion is making a comeback traffic is coming back for about 70 of where we were before this covid19 to randi rentschler the metropolitan Transportation Commission says they like to stay cashless but there are still too many drivers not switching over to fast track. And in addition to contributing to backups at the bridges theyre also adding workload for the office staff which is also reduced to covid19 stuck with a tedious job of building those without fast tracked for the toll money they owe and thats a job that gets more overwhelming the more cash paying drivers get back behind the wheel. So toll, takers will return to the job in weeks rather than months, but its expected that accepting any type of cash at bay area bridges will be in the rearview sooner than originally planned whats likely to take place. Is that were going to have the toll takers back. For some given period of time. And then were going to convert though the bridges back to our magic to collection and then later well take out the tool to infrastructure taking out the toll booths themselves will likely take years. But eventually open road tolling is expected to make crossing the state run bay area spans less of a stop and go experience. Maureen kelly kron 4 news.
