Reopen as coronavirus cases spiked across the country and we have Team Coverage this morning on the plans to scale back or reopening kron fours will tran is live in Contra Costa County. Lets start off with kron 4 Sarah Stinson who is live in Marion County which is allowing some businesses to reopen this morning but not as many as originally planned sarah. Thats right robin im live here in court amid are at the town park where one thing will be reopening just in time 4th of july and those picnic barbecue areas here you can see they still have the orange tarps all over the tables in the barbecued areas theyre going to take those off because starting today. These picnic barbecue areas are allowed to reopen including other businesses to spite a spike in coronavirus cases in ring county Health Officer halting the reopening of some business in places and activities while reopening a few types of places and businesses take a look at your screen you can see the places that can move forward with reopening today that includes Indoor Dining hair salons barber shops campground rv parks like i said where i met picnic barbecue areas and outdoor vehicle based gatherings reopenings have been pause, however, for Hotels MotelsShort Term Rentals gyms and Fitness Studios plus personal services, including tattoo and piercing shops skin care and Cosmetology Services as well as those non medical Massage Services and. So nail salons nail salons also got cut out of being able to reopen for in county recorded 54 new cases of coronavirus last week thats the highest number of new cases in just one day theyve seen throughout the whole pandemic plus theres a surge in cases at san quentin of more than 500 inmates infected in the last 2 weeks so despite seeing that spike in cases, theyre still allowing some businesses to reopen. But not all as we saw mills lawns not allowed gyms not allowed. But it will be interesting to see what reopens im sure a Business Owners are on the edge of their seat wondering if and when they can reopen so its kind of all of us just a learning curve for now live in marin county Sarah Stinson kron 4 news all right, thank you for the update sarah. Well also happening today in marine county, mere words that set to reopen to the public. There will be some changes though park officials are only going to allow near wood straw operated 50 capacity. Now that will give visitors some space for social distancing face masks are not required. But they are highly recommended near with his opening, although Murray County has put a pause on reopening some businesses after seeing an uptick in covid19 cases. Also happening today Contra Costa County expected to announce a decision about its reopening timeline that should happen later today. Well the county says its reconsidering its current plan because of a recent spike in covid19 cases now this comes as Governor Newsom is recommending that bars in contra costa. And santa clara counties not reopen just yet kron fours will tran live in downtown walnut creek. He has the latest for us will. Marty at this point hes recommending those 2 bay area counties, not reopen the bars which in a Perfect World was scheduled to reopen on wednesday. The meantime bars like this one there a little bit of exemption because they also serve food, ill explain that in just a few moments. But i can tell you 7 california counties, they were told to immediately shut down bars, including counties like los Angeles KernanFresno County because they have seen a huge uptick in coronavirus cases and the governor. Hes always said hes going to be powered by data and in this particular case. Los angeles county and some of the other counties on his list, hes just seen too much where he said on sunday, he wants them to shut down immediately as far as Contra Costa County we should know what they plan to do moving forward. When they have a News Conference today which by the way they announced on friday that they would hold a News Conference so they were a little bit ahead of the curve. Then Governor Newsome when it comes to cases Contra Costa County no different than all the other counties they too have seen an uptick in coronavirus cases in fact they said that over the past month. 55 of their cases now involve people 40 and younger and those people tend to go to the bars more than older people. Now we did get a chance to hear from the Lieutenant Governor this morning. She said dont be surprised in the bar owner should not be surprised because bars tend to be more hot spots that other locations. Frankly bars are just highrisk areas for infection. So weve always known that we might have to toggle things back and this is an example of that but we still have flattened the curve in california were very very serious back keeping the number the overall rate of infections down. The overall infection rates are down but still getting too close for comfort for the governor and thats why he is ordering those 7 7 counties to shut down. So far so good as far as santa clara and Contra Costa County. But we will see how it plays out because even in Contra Costa County theyve said they seen the hospitalization rate to go up 42 over the past week keep in mind its not its not the amount of tests that you do its see amount of positive results that come back you can test a 100 people and if save in may only 5 people came back positive thats only 5 positive rate and then you do it in june. Another 100 people and say 8 people come back positive that percentage jumped by 3 from 5 to 8 and that is one of the key indicators for Health Officials as far as the pods, theyre shutting down bars that only serve alcohol places that serve alcohol and food they are allowed to stay open, but people will have to take their alcohol to go or have outdoor seating because weve all known at this Time Restaurants are allowed to open so long as its outside a little bit safer for covid19 marty. When will we see behind you a lot of outdoor seating it looks like of the city has maybe taking up a lane downtown. Yes and lots of places even in San Francisco they are allowing people to use sidewalks something that there not used to doing, but they got a car about space somehow some way so even in San Francisco, which is really dance theyre allowing restaurants to use sidewalks or in some cases even Parking Spaces in front of the restaurant so not unheard of theyre trying to work with the Restaurant Owners but as far as the bars, including in los angeles theres nothing to really talk about at this point the governor has freemans lay down the hammer so to speak the bars are shut down all right well, thanks. As will tran reporting live for us wannacry also new this morning californias Lieutenant GovernorEleni Kounalakis is also talking about the difficulties of schools returning in the fall she says that this is probably the toughest part of californias reopening process. Schools is really really hard. We have millions of kids who are ready to go back to school in the fall. And having the appropriate protocols, figuring out which to a small children. We have a lot of work ahead of us its going to involve social distancing in the classroom, it may involve maskwearing in the classroom, were talking about hand sanitizing stations disinfecting classrooms, keeping our educators say this is going to be i really i think of everything come this fall the biggest challenge that we have. Well some school are in the bay area of already announced plans to begin the school year with Distance Learning before phasing in a return to in person classes. San Francisco Mayor london breed is delaying the citys plan to reopen more businesses today. The San Francisco zoo was supposed to reopen today but thats on hold. Thats because the zoo is categorized as an indoor style bushman the same category as hair and nail salons barber shops and tattoo parlors the zoo says its unclear why its not considered an outdoor establishment, outdoor museums and San Francisco were allowed to reopen on june 1st. Well to the north right now hundreds of protesters gathered outside of San Quentin State Prison in marin county. Demanding safer protocols for inmates. This comes as the facility struggles with the rapidly spreading outbreak more than 800 inmates and staffers have been infected since reporting its first case back on june 1st. Demonstrators are demanding more efficient testing for all inmate and prison staff. Theyre also requesting the Immediate Release of those who are most vulnerable to the coronavirus as well as anyone with less than a year left to serve and no transfers from one prison to another. The protesters argue that there is no safe way to practice physical distancing an overcrowded prisons filled well over 100 capacity. Or over 22,000 cases and over 560 corona rotten coronavirus related deaths in the bay area. Its hard to see it in Alameda County with over 5600 infections. But the virus has been deadlier in Santa Clara County which has 155 deaths. We have a full breakdown of cases by county and city online at kron 4 dot com. And new this morning, the countrys top Infectious Disease expert doctor Anthony Fauci is warning that even when the u. S. Does have a Covid Vaccine. We still may not have full herd immunity. In an interview last night doctor fauci said at this point he would settle for a vaccine that 70 to 80 to 75 effective. But the cnn poll says that one 3rd of americans dont plan on taking of the Covid Vaccine when its available. And thats one of the reasons why. We have to make sure we engage the community as were doing now to get Community People to help us for people to understand that we are doing everything we can to show that its safe and that is effective and its for the good of them as individuals. And in society to take the vaccine. I doubt seriously that any vaccine 11 be a 100 protected the best weve ever done. Is measles which is 97 to 98 . Effective. 3 coronavirus vaccines are expected to be studied in large scale Clinical Trials over the next 3 months now herd immunity comes when a majority of the population is immune to an Infectious Disease now that can be either through prior illness or a vaccination.
