All right, lets get back to the big story which is the coronavirus california has just passed. A somber milestone, a 197 deaths yesterday thats the highest singleday total then weve got doctors now across the country saying maybe its time to hit the reset button on our response to this pandemic. John lawrence explains. The United States has yet to flatten the coronavirus curve like welcome all. Without that all over this country is going to keep popping up because its something nationally. President trump is calling on governors to reopen their states. But his Coronavirus Task force is warning the 21 red states on this map that strong restrictions might be needed. The yellow states are also under the microscope. Weve got to help the public understand youve got to be part of the solution and if not i cant even imagine what the next 6 to 12 months for like without a vaccine. It will be close to the gates of l. Johns Hopkins University reports, the u. S. Recorded 50,000 deaths in just over 2 months and the resurgent seen in the south and west is now heading toward the midwest. Were starting to see that in some of the states now kentucky tennessee ohio. And other indiana. The bottom line is Health Experts say the u. S. Has to do more to fight this pandemic we have. A whole set of new testing capabilities that can give results and 15 minutes or half an hour. Those tests exist today the federal government could partner with those companies ramp up production and make sure that there are 10s of millions of those s available around the country within weeks. Im John Lawrence reporting. And heres a closer look at the numbers closer to home. Weve got california numbers showing us 484,000 infections with more than 8900 deaths. And now across the bay area again all counties in the watch list. We have more than 49,000 confirmed cases with now 772. Confirmed deaths from covid19. All the bay area counties are on the watch list San Mateo County was the last to be added after a spike in fare and now more businesses may have to close kron fours will tran is live in burlingame with the latest well. The reason being because now San Mateo County has above the threshold that the state is comfortable with now theyre sitting at 114 cases for every 100,000 people and the jumping off point is that 100 cases and that is why the state. Late yesterday put San Mateo County on the watch list making all bay area counties on the watch list. Were not alone though because 2 thirds of california counties are also being closely monitored in San Mateo County. It was the last place to get your erica to go to the gym. That could all change because if its on the watch list for 3 consecutive days businesses and restaurants might have to move outside. Many businesses cant afford to do that they might have to shut down once again and theyre already desperate for any amount of money going into their location and now with it being. Possibly being shut down once again, everybody is dreading it. But numbers they dont like the governor did warn that if they got out of control we could see another shutdown or at least a partial shutdown lets talk to people in San Mateo County im in burlingame this morning. Jose you know the news your reaction i mean its drawn up numbers dont lie. Weve been watching the numbers were not really shocked wondering when were going to get on the list an hour on that countdown. So i feel bad for the smaller businesses here in town. The gap just shut down. But yeah its its sad. But yet its it theres no doubt about it. The numbers are they tell the story. And you said personally you have a mother is over a 100 years old and your fathers old. You are taking it just very careful saying youre on board with this. Very much so yes, there are quite elderly and theyre very vulnerable. But theyre hanging in there they survived that first shut down. And theyre still theyre still taking. So thank you very much the caution we have a 4 monthold grandson as well. So yeah were. Were on a walking on pins and needles but we understand the shutdown is here best wishes for you. A lot of experts james and darya they did say there was a direct correlation with the reopening businesses and the number of cases going up unfortunately we have seen cases continue to make record almost daily. We have seen records for out of the past 8 days in fact yesterday james and darya about a 198 people died in california and that surpassed just a couple of days ago, when it was around 184 people who died so that we are going backwards unfortunately back to you not good alright, thanks. A lot. Well. Well Small Business owners across the bay area, not just san mateo are unable to pay rent due to this pandemic effect kron fours michelle kingston talk with a hair salon owner in pleasanton about the financial struggles that shes facing and other businesses as well. I get it its like they need to be paid in. We we need to work we need you we need to be paid andy miller shut down both her danville in pleasanton hair salons back in march because of the coronavirus pandemic her landlords were understanding of or inability to pay rent at first, but now would spend 5 months in those landlords say they have to get paid and then in the months went by and now were at the point where they you know this doesnt work for anybody to not be making money like they have mortgages they have property taxes they have. They still have expenses miller was able to open her danville location for a few weeks last month. That had to shut that down due to a rise in cases she says there are no rent forgiveness programs for her to apply for and at this point is reaching out to her community to help her raise money to keep her salons open were in big trouble, everyones in big trouble if this goes on much longer. Miller says shes not in a fight with her landlord she understands that they need to get paid. Shes hoping she can reopen the salon soon so that she can pay her landlords and also get back on her own feet like. At some point were going to have to do something because this isnt. I was happy with the way its going right now is not working according to Alameda County officials the commercial Eviction Moratorium is in place for unincorporated Alameda County only it does not apply the Pleasanton Pleasanton its website says that during the ongoing state of emergency and for 90 days after it is lifted new eviction cases cannot proceed Contra Costa County does have an Eviction Moratorium for Small Businesses through the end of september in the east bay, michelle kingston kron 4 news. Or listen to the south bay were costco store in sunnyvale now dealing with a covid19 outbreak among its employees and every costco shopper wants to know when were they working was i there. Thats the big question this morning. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live at that costco with the latest what do we know sarah. Darya james, you know the unfortunate thing about this is the Health Department does not require a business that has positive coronavirus cases to notify the public so thats and im sure that customers are feeling worried about here in sunnyvale if they visited the costco within the last couple of weeks at least 9 employees have tested positive take a look at this map so you can get a better idea of what costco were talking about in sunnyvale its right off of lawrence expressway about a mile off of one oh one Santa Clara County public Health Department there saying that the costco is working with the Health Department but theyre not able to confirm exactly how many cases are coming out of this costco they said about 9 is but the Public Health officer did not confirm the exact number the county does go through a sevenstep process when theres a positive case or cases at a business first they identify the infected employee or employees make sure theyre isolated get tested. Make sure they dont come back to work after several days of not experiencing symptoms identify all close contacts and that means people who came within 6 feet and were possibly not wearing a mask of the Business Needs to see exactly which days they worked in communicate with all the employees. Were told they put a bullet an up and in the break room saying that there were some cases but again they do not have to tell customers they do not to tell the general public about the outbreak people have heard about this through the grapevine but nothing has been put out on the front door of costco you can see. Theyve got the green check mark they do say, heres some information about covid19 but knoller to the public about the employees being infected and the county does require extensive and disinfectant making sure they can prevent any additional spread and the costco here opens up at 9 oclock for the senior hour and then at 10 oclock the general public, those costco members will head inside to go shopping. And im sure as the news starts covering this the words even going to go further. It will be interesting to see if this bothers people the point where theyre not going shopping here give it a break or they are fun with it well have to see if it will talk to us out here were not allowed to be on the property i have reached out to the Health Department havent heard back have reached out to the union that represents employees have not heard back so were working to get some answers for you customers in terms of what theyre doing to keep you safe for now im live in sunnyvale Sarah Stinson kron 4 news all right, yeah, at least well try to tell people on let them know what we know as soon as we know it, thank you sarah. To the east bay now where you can get a coronavirus test from a temporary kiosk in berkeley. Its at the San Pablo Park you actually swab yourself so you go up there, theyll give you a little tool swap your mouth handed back in the attendant there at the kiosk will send it away for testing. And the second thing up in the exact lee ryan and is pretty quick to they say anywhere from one to 2 days you should know whether positive or negative today. Those the last day for this temporary chaos to be an operation there so if you want to get a test go out today dont just show up though you have to make an appointment and you can find out more information on how to do that to our website, you know how many more of these we need. Because if youve yeah if you try to get a test you know how difficult it is we just need these everywhere. Yeah that would make it a lot easier. Theres a new walkup testing site 24th and Mission Transit hub in San Francisco. The you go to. They are particularly focused on the heavily impacted a latino community. The site is open wednesdays and fridays but again just for the next 3 weeks to really have to keep an eye out for these popup testing sites. New this morning doctor Anthony Fauci is now suggesting that. We should just wear masks, but we should add goggles or some type of i protection for coronavirus the cdc has already been recommending. I coverings but the cdc nor fauci has pushed goggles because i guess theyre not as easily available as face masks, but think about it everybody has at least glasses or sunglasses you can wear that said that nothing that was a look at your sport for a while yeah, the sunglasses that i could talk for oahu i do it for many reasons so theres just another reason that glasses, theres double glass is well we have some breaking news this morning. President trump now questioning whether the u. S. Should delay the election. Come november. Something he cant do legally. But he tweeted about it and this morning it reads in part. As he rants about mail in voting and says without proof that the election would be inaccurate and fraudulent if mail in voting was allowed he then what i went on to say quote delay the election until people can properly securely and safely vote question marks we posed the question. But again as we know the president trailing in the polls. He does not have the authority to delay the election but that doesnt stop him from posing welcome back to the kron 4 morning news im Rebecca Strom in for john show you more on this thursday foggy morning around the bay area.
