We want to bring in rebecca strong to talk about the temperatures how hot will be talking for today and also for tomorrow sunday seems worse yeah, even worse tomorrow guys today we saw a lot of areas in the triple digits and weve seen a couple of records that were broken but tomorrow were expecting to see a whole lot more and even getting into monday a live look outside right now at live conditions here suit our tower camera in San Francisco overlooking. The Golden Gate Bridge just someone clear conditions, but yes its only showing us that it is going to be hot and dry through the rest of the weekend and temperatures going to soar even more as we get into sunday and monday. And there is an excessive heat warning for much of the bay area and then a heat advisory for some of our coastal spots but most of the bay area under that excessive heat warning so try to stay indoors if you can especially during the peak hours. Inland were going to see those temperatures a very hot again tomorrow and into monday. But even hotter than what we saw today anywhere from 95 to a 115 for the Labor Day Weekend are in locations and then around the bay were going to see it upwards into the mid 90s and then at the coast is going to be warm as well anywhere from the 70s into the mid 80s thats were expecting through monday temperatures outside right now look at this were seeing a lot of 90s, especially as you move further inland, dublin and livermore both coming in at 91 degrees right now were looking at to 85 in san jose right now 80s for much of the east bay shoreline 83 degrees right now currently in downtown oakland, 85 in berkeley, 79 in nevada, were looking at 90 degrees still in the tehran area, San Francisco. You are in the low 80s but records were broken today, nasa came in at one 02. The record there from 2004 gilroy one of 6 and hue city one 05. But really were going to see this list a growing were expecting that into tomorrow and monday with me are. Records broken. And tomorrow look at this were seeing a definitely more triple digits on the board than what we saw today a 112 the we could be seeing tomorrow in concord a 114 in livermore is possible tomorrow summer east bay shoreline, one 04 expecting in hayward one of 3 if youre going to be in fremont and then were looking at one oh one in redwood city and then look at this along the coast 80s, half moon bay. Were expecting a lot of sunshine and 84 degrees there San Francisco. Were expecting a high of 93 tomorrow and heres a quick. Look ahead. Yeah, those temperatures continue to rise as we get closer to monday and then things will slowly start to dip down as we get into the middle of next week, however, though there is a fire weather watch will have that coming up a little bit later now back to the news, thanks so much how Many Americans might be traveling this Holiday Weekend to enjoy the final. Kron 4 news at 10 oclock this saturday night continues with activists as they demand justice for Breonna Taylor tonight at 8. 30 why protesters say todays protests at the conduct, Kentucky Derby will not be the last. And our heat wave coverage continues at 8. 45 will head to the east bay to see the best ways to stay cool. There. But first fire crews continuing to make even more progress on the front lines today on 3 major wildfires now to developing story. Were following tonight a wildfire near fresno has now scored some 36,000 acres. In a matter of hours this is the creek fire which is currently burning in the Sierra National forest. Right now there are reports that indicate nearly a 1000 people were trapped at one point near mammoth reservoir. Those folks were asked to jump in the water just to get away from the flames that they had to. More than 12,000 firefighters continue to battle 22 major wildfires in the state. And what the excessive heat here all weekend. Cal fire has increased staffing during this critical fire weather. Crews making more progress on the fires burning here in the bay area. The lnu lightning complex in the north bay currently at 89 containment with more than 375,000 acres burned. The scu complex is burning in the east and south bay now up to 88 containment with more than 396,000 acres charred and the czu lightning complex fires in san mateo and santa cruz counties. Now up to 64 containment with more than 86,000 acres scorched. You can find the latest wildfire and evacuation information on our website thats kron 4 dot com. Now we want to bring in cal fires Daniel Berlant to get the latest on the firefight not only here in the bay area but also with the creek fire in fresno county. So first my question is that containment has gone up or nearing almost 90 for the 3 major fires 2 of them the lnu and this fcu complex here in the bay area thats just containment what about when the fires will be completely out of im asking just for. Evacuations and also help clear the smoke thats a really covering the bay area. But you know i think the first good news here is that in all the 3 in the north bay east bay and even in sectors nouns we had no growth in creech today also firefighters have been able to really do the job of holding the fire within the perimeters are containing numbers are up to since this morning on the scu lightning complex is up another 2 i in the tigers mounds this easy learning complex up another 3 so we are continuing our efforts and increasing mile by mile on for overall containment, its very likely though with the challenging weather conditions that were going through next week and that you know the full containment may not happen later in probably a week at least a week from its not 2 weeks just based on on how much work there still has to be done it happens every now one of the reasons its taken so much longer to get containment is that a lot of the smoldering is occurring in the roots of some of these redwood trees so farmers are having to dig sometimes down 4 feet into the ground in order to get contain and stop the spread for the small green of that fire and so its a lot of effort in order to get that full containment but another week or 2 and we should have full containment all 3 of these major complexes daniel that was going to be my next question right now as we deal with increase in temperatures with the heat. What are some of the challenges that you guys are going to be up against over the next few days trying to not only contain those fires but also making sure that the fire crews themselves are staying hydrated and are protected from the elements as well. Those are all of challenges that we are currently facing high the next couple days, its only going to get hotter access. Excess heat warnings in effect across much of Northern California that is going to in a very difficult a firefight now get even though you know theres not a lot of if any of these 3 major complexes are still a lot of work to be done all the building containment and making sure that all the hot spots are put out and with these that the high temperatures it could lead to an increase in fire activity on those fires and so that is something that we are definitely prepare for weeks in holding on to a lot of the resources even though the fire activity really has died out especially on the lnu lightning complex for example, weve not seen growth on a fire in days, but we want to make sure we have plenty of firefighters on should that the fire activity take backups are bigger concern going into this weekend and into next week is the fact that it is a threeday weekend people are our recreating and with this significant temperatures coupled with gusty winds and low humidity that is the perfect recipe for a wildfire in a significant wildfire at that and as was mentioned at the top here. We have increased our staffing and rescue the public as well to be extra cautious outdoors. Yeah of pg e has issued a possible a Public Safety power shutoff on tuesday and wednesday, its nothings official just yet, but thats just an indication of just the fire danger that could be coming later on this week with the fire thats near fresno what is happening there. Its called the creek fire. But as we were reporting that there are about a 1000 people were trapped at one point near mammoth reza far and they were asked if the fire got close to them that they should jump into a reservoir. Whats going on there. Yeah the creek fire ignited early this morning in again with these high temperatures gusty winds. I has quickly been able to grow i just to an enormous size unit have 36,000 acres burned in less than 12 hour period is just telling of how dry the conditions but this fire which is really to to the east of fresno up near she number of these lakes are places where people in Central Valley go on to get out of the heat to recreate so the number of people that were camping in the mammoth pools reservoir as un it just wasnt safe. But he had a number of vehicles on such narrow road to try to evacuate and so in in this case, the sheriffs were made the decision that was safer for them to shelter in place and assure storm continues on tour now evacuating those residents now the fire has burned through there. But it just from you know the footage they are seen to have this amount of smoke and for it to have gotten so large again is just telling of how dry conditions are and is really our concern going into the next several days because the same weather conditions are expected throughout much of Northern California into even in the bay area, the Weather Service has issued a fire weather watches starting for the north bay mountains side the east bay hills and again much of Northern California. Really we need to continue to be on high alert on for the next several days and into next week was there cause for this fire do we know how it started. This fire remains under investigation by with the dry conditions it doesnt take much a simple spark an open flame can quickly night into a major wildfire not to really asking the public to be extra cautious powered equipment on campfires even vehicles that are properly maintain all of these can be common causes for wildfires under these critical fire weather conditions and so it is critically important that everyone be extra cautious outdoors right now. Daniel berlant with calfire thank you so much for joining us here on kron 4 news at 8 oclock tonight. We appreciate your time. So now lets talk with Rebecca Strom for the latest on the fire weather conditions. We just heard from Daniel Berlant not only of the heat the low humidity how dry it is recipe for disaster really. Really is guys because were going to see the winds pick up as we get into next week. And this heat wave as we continue to write about this triple digits going to continue over the next couple of days through the entire Holiday Weekend were going to set more of those record for tomorrow and even on monday as well more than what we saw today and of course yes, a high fire danger as a result because the winds are going to start to pick up and now were this fire weather watch through monday evening. And then continuing through wednesday morning the peak ones that were expecting should be on tuesday night and again that is going to affect the north bay mountains and the east bay hills we could see a gusts of up to 50 Miles Per Hour at some of our highest peaks so definitely going to be watching out for that temperatures going to continue to climb as we get into tomorrow afternoon even hotter than what we saw today as a matter of fact more triple digits on the board upwards of a 114 degrees expected in livermore tomorrow a 104 if youre going to be in hayward tomorrow, one of 3 in fremont one of 7 for the afternoon high in morgan hill and so were definitely looking at some low 90s even in downtown San Francisco. And up the coast were looking at 84 for half monday. How long is this heat wave got a last will have all those details comi i wanted my hepatitis c gone. I put off treating mine. And as you can see 17 counties impacted on that list, those closest to us. Obviously napa sonoma counties on that list as lake county as well. He was confirmed to the Supreme Court after biden led the fight against some say let the republicans can a takeover i dont think i did but the point was i wish i could have done it differently under the rules. In early 2019 just weeks before joe biden launched his campaign for president. Hill got a phone call. I have apologized to need to tell the could have done better for her. The truth is i believe her and i believed he should not be in the court. You called the phone call on satisfying it didnt take responsibility he didnt hold himself accountable. Speaking of it, lets take a live look outside tonight courtesy of the sutro tower camera gorgeous night outside. I stepped outside this afternoon. They really felt like i was back home in hotter tomorrow. Welcome to the bay area in September John thank you warm welcome little and a hot welcome in some spots that might i think if were going to see upwards of maybe a 115 degrees for summer inland spots thats were going to think were going to max out tomorrow. So you thought today was hot tomorrow. Its going to be even more so temperature wise around the bay. Were expecting temperatures anywhere from the mid 80s to mid 90s and then at the coast 70s to those mid 80s once again so very hot very dry for the rest of your Labor Day Weekend in fact theres an excessive heat warning for much of the bay area and then for a little bit of our coastal spots thats where the heat advisory. Persist but stay indoors if you can and to try to limit your outdoor activity, stay hydrated, lots of sunscreen and definitely want to check on your family check on the elderly as well and always check the back seat dont leave anybody or any pets in the back seat so always check your cars in fact we saw a record heat today. Napa one 02 was the record breaker. It versus back in 2008 where as a 100 degrees so today it was 2 Degrees Higher there in gilroy another record breaking a temperature of one of 6 in king city, one 05 and in fact as we get into tomorrow that is expected to grow as this heat wave continues and also another spare the air alert as we get into tomorrow keep that in mind and yes, definitely high fire danger as we get into and next week because the winds are going to start picking up in fact we could start to see gusts of up to 50 Miles Per Hour. This fire weather watch in effect for monday evening. Lasting through wednesday morning with the peak winds were expecting on tuesday night so just keep that in mind for the north bay mountains and the east bay hills and again some of the higher peaks upwards of 50 miles an hour as far as those wind gusts. Tomorrows forecast, heres a peek at said the temperatures these are the afternoon highs that we are expecting so a lot hotter. Then what we saw today a lot more triple digits on the board especially in look at how just hot livermore is expecting to be tomorrow at a 114 degrees fremont youre expecting at one of 3 tomorrow, one of 4 if youre going to be in hayward and those triple digits continue in our south zone, san jose at a high of a 103 tomorrow 107. If youre going to be in morgan hill 93 though in downtown San Francisco. The were expecting and those a possibly a mid 80s for half moon bay. And then the triple continue for much of the north bay, one of 7 expected in the bottle tomorrow afternoon and one oh one in mill valley, how long is this heat wave going to last ill let you know, heres your sevenday around the bay forecast.
