Kron fours noelle bellow joins us live in redwood city with the details of the plan and some reaction boy well, this is bold. It is controversial too. That definitely is you know a lot of the questions that ive been getting from people is if i have a gas powered car right now will i be able to drive it in 15 years and the answer is yes, if you own a gaspowered vehicle right now and you want to continue driving it. You definitely can but come 2035 if youre in the market to buy a new vehicle it will have to be one that is 0 a mission now i spoke with some dealerships who said you know 15 years is long enough for us to get this plan in place and make it happen. However, there is one group that is questioning the governors initiative. If you are an american manufacturer how can you compete globally unless youre in that business unless youre pushing the boundaries of innovation standing in front of several electric vehicles wednesday governor newsome said forth what he called a firm goal that 15 years from now california will eliminate the new sales of gas powered vehicles. He says the decision will cut Greenhouse Gas emissions by 35 . Not taking anything away were providing abundance of new choices in new technology, not everyone is quick to hop on board though the California New Car Dealers Association released a Statement Wednesday questioning states preparedness to take on such a directive. Pointing out california is currently falling short of the current aspirations for 0 emission vehicles on the road. The group also expressed concerns for the impact on consumers stating electric vehicles are often more expensive. The group went on to say quote while we support the states goals to combat Climate Change there are many questions and factors that need to be thoughtfully considered and addressed before implementing such a mandate on consumers and quote under this proposed auto emissions rule drivers of gas powered vehicles can continue driving their cars and there will still be a market for used vehicles come 2035. The California Air Resources Board is now tasked with writing the new vehicle rules they believe the Clean Air Act gives us the authority. To set exactly the kinds of standards that we have set up since the late 60s therefore we look forward to being able to do that in the future. About a dozen states are expected to follow california in this type of initiative another question grant that a lot of folks have been asking is can i buy a gas powered car in a different state and then bring it back to california. Yes you can it is just the new vehicles being sold in california that will have to be 0 emission by 2035 live in redwood city noelle bellow kron 4 news right now well, thanks for straightening that at our 4 zone forecast as we get a live look right now outside of downtown San Francisco a warm night meteorologist Lawrence Karnow is a new car kind of guy and lawrence i dont care what kind of car you have a better have a seat, yeah, no kidding and youre going to need a lot of it would be cranking up.
