Thousands of homes remain threatened this afternoon and now theres a red flag warning for the glass fire area thats expected. For thursday. Thank you so much for joining us here this afternoon. Im Justine Waldman we continue to follow our breaking news today here on kron 4 news at 3 and thats the devastation across sonoma and napa counties where the glass fire burns out of control right now this is video of the fire burning off highway 29 on Greenwood Avenue in calistoga the glass fire has burned over 48,000 acres and is currently only 2 contained over 22,000 structures are threatened. The fire has burned more than 80 homes and napa and sonoma counties and now were getting a closer look at the damage caused by the glass fire joining us live as kron fours brian calley she is in santa rosa. And shes been talking to people on cougar lane thats an east santa rosa. And marine this is just so devastating to see again. How are People Holding up. Justine yeah, its really tough the couple i talked to have been evacuated 3 times now sense 20 is 2017. This time they dont believe they are lucky. This i went out there fairly sure they lost their home up on cougar lane which is in unincorporated santa rosa off highway 12. Now i tried to get up there to confirm for them whether or not they really did lose their home i was not able to get all the way there because of the conditions but i did find some devastation along the way. Burned grass and milton events pose greeted me as i drove up los alamos road in the hills above highway 12 the higher i climbed up the scenery became more and more bleak trees charred black and brown over hong with smoky skies. My destination, the coyote lane home of a couple who live in a parttime and air bnb at the rest of the year. They say theyve been told that of the nearly dozen properties in their neighborhood only one is Still Standing that one i could see on the ridge above. Heres video of one of their neighbors homes which has been completely leveled by the fire closer to the address i was trying to get to i was stopped by a downed power line smoke still billowing out from several spots along the canyon well i was not able to officially confirm that the couples home was lost it certainly doesnt look good and theyre already bracing for the worst im an optimist said everybody kept saying oh everythings gonna make it even well another fire to see a jump around in. I was trying to hold out hope. And i handled it differently. You so you dont know what were doing a pretty good job just just been focusing on what we need to do and what their kids we lost and what we need to cancel and you realize so we should cancel directv but all that stupid things because what you know what really captivated with his house. Was. Just the of nature. You mean you live in nature, i mean we had gear. We had 5 cats. Tons of birds. And theyre all parish you know never hear about that part what happens and. And all of natures call and i know everythings couldnt recall organ but nonetheless horror that they had that experience and and so i think its saying its too nice gets and by that. Obviously very emotional loss for this couple at least theyre fairly sure they lost their they have another friend hes going up there today to try to get a little bit closer now. My apologies earlier in the story misidentified the street is coo a coyote lane is actually cougar lane. They that couple they are planning to go up there as soon as theyre allowed us to use the Evacuation Order is lifted but at this point theyre not sure if theyre going to rebuild justine back to you. We figure we have a little bit of time and it doesnt get like that when they come through 4 oclock in the morning. Theyre saying hey you got to go now the fires next door and now. Some mitigation efforts are already underway. But there is not not enough time for receiving and things like that to take root. The county continues to assess the damage here and the potential they for the most part anyone who lives near a steep slope is at risk and that pretty encompasses the entire western part of the burn scar which burned 86,000 acres.
