Its terrible to say, but you almost get used to it it is not been easy lately for calistoga residents who were forced to evacuate for 6 days during the glass fire from the burn scars in the surrounding mountains, you can see how it burned right up to the edge of town and now because of hot dry and windy conditions in the forecast pg e says. They may have to cut power to part of this town as part of the Public Safety power shutoffs to help reduce the risk of more wildfires. This is not the first time this has happened here calistogas mayor says theyve endured multiple Public Safety power shutoff since 2018. Which is why pg e has just finished constructing a microgrid here. Which is expected to keep the lights on for about 60 of the towns residents that includes the downtown section which means the towns Grocery Store Hardware Store pharmacy in many restaurants will remain open residents without power will be able to juice up their devices and cool down at the Community Center when and if the psp ps happens wednesday. The mayor himself lives in the section west of the napa river that could be in the dark its a financial hardship, though i mean no bones about it. You lose food. Not everybody can afford eat all the time are many times for that matter. This is significant. And again we know that its for our own safety. We dont. I dont knock why we have to do this especially having experienced fires as much as we have its just its a hardship. Now those winds are expected to die down on thursday morning pg nice as their crews will aim to restore power to those affected with him. 12 hours after those winds die down reporting from napa county im Maureen Kelly kron 4 news. Sanaas good afternoon well go ahead and check in to what we got going on here covers everybody in the bay area with the exception of San Francisco. Anywhere near water is not technically in that and even up here to the north bay you will notice out here to point re for example, not in that stinson beach, however, all the rest the geography covered up there in the hills Santa Cruz Mountains east bay east of the east bay hills Solano County the entire county. And up in the north bay as you can see there as well this is not just the Higher Elevations, although the Higher Elevations may be treated to some gusts that extend up to about 50 Miles Per Hour is a possibility again theres the general geography that were talking about live shot coming in least were getting some nice pretty all of this this coming in from Half Moon Bay, beautiful blue skies as we have also the golden gate looks like the winds now are still a little bit on shore but really can feel the city is its quite warm in the 80s right now you see the arrows are still pointed to a northwest wind even though thats not really happening will called somewhat variable into the teens. Complements basically of daytime heating you can see inland and still relatively cooler at the coast but not that much more 86 San Francisco 73 for Half Moon Bay. Lower 90s already in those inland valleys of the east bay, everybody is ahead of where they were from this time yesterday going into the evening were down to about 76 already by 7. Thats the dry air work and the only thing really challenging the lows tonight are those winds because they sometimes support the temperatures of when you got clear skies and dry air. Temperatures do tend to fall relatively quickly 69 by 10 coming up in a bit well show you some of the wind projections where and when and also what were looking at humidity levels too so knots they thank you for that. The glass fire is now close to full containment. Cal fire says the fire is currently 96 contained after burning more than 67,000 acres in napa and sonoma counties the fire destroyed more than 800 homes. A new report from the cdc shows that Wearing Masks and social distancing are affected when it comes to slowing the spread of coronavirus kron fours Charles Clifford joins us live from San Francisco with details on that to charles. And there yet nationwide theres an upward trend an increase in the number of coronavirus cases but some states including california have a seen their numbers drop for the last couple of months and the cdc in this new report you just mentioned points to mask wearing and social distancing as being the reason we have done so well. In this new study the cdc tracked the coronavirus outbreak in arizona it found that has the virus was spreading rapidly over the summer the implementation of social distancing guidelines which included Wearing Masks remaining 6 feet apart, and avoiding large gatherings was effective in slowing the spread of the virus here in california in the bay area. The number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from covid19 peak in late july and has been declining ever since experts believe that social distancing and maskwearing has been a big factor in the decline will not everyone wears a mask all the time face coverings have become socially acceptable. I think it is a definite deterrent ah to covid19 i think you pretty much has proven yes, i feel positive. I think its definitely a good move and i think we all should be wearing them, i feel comfortable that people are wearing them it makes me feel protected. I feel like. And the best interests of everyones Public Health or health for for people to wear masks. Now the concern moving forward is that the number of cases drops in county start to ease restrictions and kids go back to school and people go back to work that there could be another wave of Coronavirus Infections over the summer so experts are asking everyone. The stick with the social distancing to keep wearing the masks because it is being proven to work. But for now in San Francisco Charles Clifford kron 4 news. Thank you for that report chalk now we are tracking the coronavirus numbers across the california and the bay area so far the state has recorded over 852,000 cases with more than 16,000 deaths across the bay area. There are more than a 106,000 infections and over 1600 deaths. But good news for 2 more bay area counties amid this pandemic alameda and santa clara counties have moved its the less restrictive orange moderate tier of reopening, this means more businesses can reopen indoors with safety guidelines in place, San Francisco is the only other bay area county in the orange here Sonoma County remains in the most restrictive purple tier are in san mateo contra costa. Solano and napa counties remain in the red here. And in the wake of reports about an official ballot boxes turning up in Southern California south bay Election Officials want people to know what real ballot boxes look like. Among some other tips for voters kron fours rob fladeboe has more on the story now live from san jose rob. Thats right. An weve got a sneak preview, if you will of the election kind of behind the scenes look here at the Registrars Office today covering everything from as you said ballot box security to covid safety measures. Heres more. You can see here. Santa clara county registrar of voters shannon on tuesday showing reporters what an official ballot drop box looks like. While reassuring the public Election Officials are on the lookout for those that dont belong here we are always on the lookout if people call in to alleged things. And we can check those out in depending on what that is were not an Investigative Authority we dont have that authority. But we can always refer talk to the District Attorney first thing you ask me what so look at all of the different languages that we offer the ballot registrar then demonstrated touch screen voting made possible by 2018 voter choice act which allows people to choose when where and how they vote. Most people will are already have voted by mail but there will be 100 votes centers where one can vote in person. Officials will be keeping an eye on things there too says the law allows people to observe the polls. And were ok with that but there are rules that come with that you cant interfere with the voting process. You cant walk back here behind the processing table and if they interfere we will ask them to leave he changes to ensure voters safety include the redesign of those votes centers. To allow for social distancing between voting booths and machines oneway routes in and out news and posted Health Guidelines straight so we are asking every voter to please wear a mask and respect the safety protocols that we have in place of the vote centers. So if you dont have one wed be happy to give you one when you come in and vote. I record 1 Million People are registered to vote here in Santa Clara County this year and those aforementioned 100 Voting Centers will be open for business on saturday october 31st live in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news. Thank you for that report, ron. And now on to a tragic update that we have on a big story that weve been following in the south bay, one of the women who was hit by a car while eating outside at a san jose restaurant over the weekend has died the crash happened sunday afternoon at the Grand Central mall in san jose. A total of 8 people were injured, but now we know one of the women has succumbed to her injuries that turns out that the restaurant where it happened did not have a permit to serve outdoors according to san joses Economic Development department if the restaurant had registered with the city, protective barricades might have been installed to help keep diner safe. And coming up on kron 4 news at 3 some private schools in the east bay reopen today, well hear from School Officials and parents on the first day and next. A live report from washington dc is day 2 of the confirmation hearings and Supreme Court nominee judge barrett continue a personal questions she had its now day 2 of judge Amy Coney Barrett is confirmation hearings and today, the president s nominee to the Supreme Court had to field questions from senators, i washington correspondent alexandra le mon joins us live with the recap. Hi alexandra. Hey good evening and day 2 of these hearings has been much longer infected still going on right now and its been more personal judge barrett was asked about her religion for example, and how that could impact how she rules on cases that come before the Supreme Court. Youre catholic. I am the chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee senator Lindsey Graham asked whether judge amy bairds personal religious beliefs influence her rulings can you set aside whatever catholic beliefs you have regarding. Any issue before you. I can i have done that in my time on the 7th circuit california senator Dianne Feinstein took issue with judge barrett not answering whether she thinks the landmark abortion case, roe v wade was wrongly decided its distressing not to get a straight answer. So let me try again do you agree with Justice Scalias you that roe was wrongly decided i cant. Pre commit or say yes, im going in with sam agenda because im not barrett told senator Chuck Grassley she also has no agenda to strike down the Affordable Care act if you committed to the president or anyone else. That you will vote to repeal the Affordable Care act if confirmed by. To the cork absolutely not democrats like illinois senator dick durbin say theres a reason they believe judge barrett could have preset judgments about certain cases could have come from the president s tweets. What he expects a Supreme Court nominee to do politically for him. Thats where it comes from. Judge barrett was also asked whether a u. S. President has the Legal Authority to delay in the election and she said she couldnt get an off the cuff answer because that would make her a legal pundit and not judge live in washington. Alexandra limon alexander, thank you for that. Now its not clear how closely the American Public is following the confirmation hearings but so far. It doesnt seem like theres much drama involved Catherine Heenan host of inside bay area politics talked to one of our political analysts for some insight. Catherine there were certainly sanaas not saying the fireworks of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings for example i talked to political analyst michael yaki he agrees that since the outcome here is a foregone conclusion, we know how everyone will vote. We can probably forget about any real suspense. They have to go through this the democrats have a right to the man to delay so its going to be october 22nd for the final vote. But this is all preordained and so both parties are going through the motions republicans are basically saying she hasnt decided that thing the democrats are saying e think she decided to things and catching it in terms of the electoral in terms of the november election around the Affordable Care act. And thats basically it thats those are all the points they want to make snow Kavanaugh Hearing and for the republicans thats actually not a not a good thing. A lot of credit the Kavanaugh Hearing for helping them keep the senate in 2018. This i said a foregone conclusion theyre open this rally, the base. But then again. A lot of this is overshadowed by the fact that the president is out there campaigning everywhere without masks and social distancing and that seems to be the focus of the media right now. Yockey of course knows that judge barrett is not going to be a discussing how she would vote on any big issues weve seen her dodging any kind of direct answer like that, but she was also asked whether she thinks the president should be able to delay the election. Yockey thanks that was a softball question and one she should have answered son os. Thank you for that catherine. Switching gears now to talk about the weather as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge, its beautiful out there. We are monitoring a red flag warning issued by the National Weather service weve got dave spahr standing by his got details on when that red flag warning will go into effect and what areas are involved they afternoon sun as were looking at scenario for to for us tomorrow as formality but the affects of it. Are already being felt with warm temperatures dry air live shot of sfo, no delays going on there. The driver behind all of this big dose of High Pressure decades giving us that offshore wind thats already developing but on top of that with the hot temperatures you have this air thats falling on top of the subsidence and then as a as a little extra boost their you know in physics you do compression eating kind of thing it got a little bit more warmth out of it which is happening plus the air aloft as a warmer too so the
