KRON KRON 4 News At 6am July 12, 2024

Marine county. Weve got mount tam and all those Higher Elevation peaks around that area and then finally our last stop the north bay where once again the Higher Elevations for both napa and sonoma counties really being impacted by these Public Safety power shutoff kron fours will tran is in the east bay looking at the strong winds in the outages there Sarah Stinson doing the same in the north bay and john trouble. Is in the Weather Center where its all starting because it originates with the winds whats going to happen today. John yeah we are going to gradually see wind speeds coming down guys but what a windy overnight into morning that we are in the midst of. Winds substantial all across the bay area, not just in those areas that we usually see herb are easiest of conditions looking outside right now conditions are pretty clear over San Francisco as these are dry offshore winds that are pushing the lot of that marine layer out to sea. So even though it is cool and dry with these dry conditions and of course with the strong winds fire danger is again a factor 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour gusts regularly all across the bay area, some of our notably more windy areas calistoga vacaville danville as well as fairfield and sonoma well into that 40 mile per hour range. Also not much calmer than that in San Francisco, Half Moon Bay oakland and hayward where winds have been gusting from 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour all morning long by 11 45am. Just before noontime, were still in the midst of some of the strongest of winds. They do come down somewhat into the afternoon your evening commute will still be breezy but a whole lot calmer than this morning has been and a little bit calmer yet into tomorrow as well red flag warnings extended into tuesday at 05 00pm while are wind advisories do expire today at 11 00am you can see that not just all the bay area but really the entirety of the region as a whole is lit up in red flag warnings as these dry and windy conditions just continue through the day today, 50s and 60s for your current temperatures, it is a mild start albeit a very windy start oakland and nap, but nice at 60 degrees as you step outside both hands on the wheel and both hands on your hats if you are walking to work. Robin. Sounds good john and they need to slow it down to heading across the bay area bridges because its windy out there we have high wind advisories in place for the bay bridge for the san mateo bridge driving across altamonte as well so please slow down watch out for debris scattered across the road heres a live look at 80 into San Francisco. I told you the line will continue to grow and thats exactly whats happening so its already backed up beyond 8. 80 overcrossing just get out there early because you got to have to wait a little bit were in 10 minutes for your average to fremont street which is still a good average. I have not found any hot spots and the drive times are looking good. These are some of your major freeways coming out of the maze right connecting you to San Francisco. So we have shore at 50 minutes 24 looks great out of walnut creek, no problems for 5. 80 or the nimitz freeway connecting from to 38 to downtown oakland so were off to a great start so far well check more coming up back to you, thanks lot robin, 6 03 and lets get back to big story. The Team Coverage with the high fire danger and the extreme win. Yeah fact take a look this is an example of the winds fanning a fire that broke out overnight this was at a u haul business in concord. And for a time pretty scary as to where this would go now crews managed to put that out which is great it didnt spread to a nearby building on monument boulevard but like you said. This is an example of what happens when you have strong wind yeah so tensions are high fire danger high pg and e as a result cutting power to some communities in the east bay they dont want to see anything of theirs spark a force will tran is live in our and theyre the dark but will youve got your light on hows it going out there. Hello darkness, my old friend has just the way it is these days when the winds pick up theres a fear that the lines will go down which is why thousands of people look at a car just drove by other than other than my lights on my camera thats it you dont see anything in the background renda is in the dark just like so many other places in the dark we want to show you some video from the overnight hours in concord. The winds were so strong that it took down a tree and when tree came down it also took down some power lines and the fear is those lines will be energized they go down into a field that remote area and all of a sudden spark a wildfire and then when it starts with the windy conditions. James and area. Those embers. Can fly all over the place and all of a sudden we have another wildfire to deal with hard to argue with the results because were not seeing any wildfires in the overnight hours. But we are seeing a lot of downed trees in fact from concord lets go to san leandro same situation, the winds were simply too strong for the trees in that particular area that wind down fell on top of a home fortunately were not hearing of any major injuries. But as long as the winds persist and were not just talking a little bit when were talking gusts in fact let show you the pg any map of the whole bay area waking up to a purple rain, its just sitting on top of us purple meaning areas without power in our in downtown area, there are plenty of coffee shops, the theater. James darya something as simple as i saw little bit earlier and ill tweet this out even the atm. They dont have power as well the gas stations make sure that you see if you see a gas station in your community that has power i suggest that you just fill up because i spoke to a one young lady very fearful that she was looking for power. Our take is on me but she cant go to any gas stations because no power means no pumps, something simple as that it is just the way it is these days as far as the inconvenience, lets face it. It is an inconvenience. Pg says the overall picture is. We dont want to see another wildfire in fact we dont want to see anything because you cant see anything youre in the dark thank goodness, im not afraid of the dark. Back to the law well. Well time now is 6 06 and we have new video this morning that was actually shot by john trouble on his way into work this morning showing a fire that broke out near the glen park, bart station right along 2. 80 in San Francisco and as it goes by youll see the flames come into view right around 3 oclock this morning see the smoke there in the street light and then theres the fire. Just another example of how busy crews were running around trying to make sure that any fire that did break out got put out quickly before the winds had a chance to spread hands, im sure he had that mounted right he had that camera his forehead every never dry field at the same time we have Team Coverage continuing now has thousands of customers. Are all in 4 counties in the north bay with no lot no power for more on this we want to go live this morning to kron 4 Sarah Stinson for a look at what conditions are like in that part of the bay area sarah. And she moved over here to mill valley because the wind is just much stronger here than where i in ross was more of a a calmness in ross, but the power was right off of the sir Francis Drake nolan alive here in mill valley where i can definitely feel the wind a lot more and its been very strong consistently throughout the night that is why peoples power is out take a look though at this new video we got from santa rosa fire. You can see just how strong it was up here in the north bay here in snow you can see that the wind was so strong it pushed over outdoor outdoor eating area you can see it is super strong i mean the gusts have range from anywhere from 20 Miles Per Hour to 70 Miles Per Hour 70 being the worst Case Scenario up in the mountains in in the ridges and also we have our cameras up in Solano County where you can see more strong winds, its very consistent throughout the entire north bay and that has caused major concern for wildfire danger in Sonoma Napa Marin solano counties all experiencing these high winds i can hear leaves in just blowing in the wind behind me now with wind blowing my here definitely a lot stronger closer to mount him where theres also a lot of wind gusts going on and theyre making my way there now but take a look at the map you can see all in purple the affected areas in the north bay in marin county where im at right now mill valley sausalito all covered in that purple meaning a lot of people thousands of people without power this morning, so its been taking a lot longer for the sun to rise could be that between 7 8 oclock before we see any daylight so its going to be pretty rough morning for those getting ready without power. But when you get up you will definitely notice those strong winds at least there are some theres a cause of the effect of those power being out there going to take to put the elise we know why we can feel it you can see it. Theres like this is flying over here that i have are here this the section has power. But i want to show you so strong the wind isnt blowing and theres been trees all around here completely just blowing in the wind so definitely strong keep joining us because i make my way all over marin county show you the Current Conditions, im live in Murray County Sarah Stinson back to you all right well see where you go next. Thank you very much sara. 6. 10 is the time right now and still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, Vice President mike pence. Is still campaigning. And today a very windy started will be breezy to finish out the day too but not quite as windy as we are this morning, some 60s and 70s to look forward to later today and plenty of sunshine too. Your forecast ahead. And traffic continues to fill in on bay area bridges plus its windy out there so we have a high wind advisory in place here for the bay bridge, a backup passing 8. 80 and getting word of a downed tree plan on 5. 80 well have details coming up in a bit stay with us. Welcome back, it is 3. 13 right now its not 3. 13 at 6 there you go dont panic double high winds knocking out trees and well knocking out power in the form of e g d its just too risky. Yeah we saw earlier in the east bay crawfords yulia 7 showing us pictures of a tree that was down across an entire a road. Lets go out to get the latest update from our now good morning kelly. Yeah good morning. There are branches and trees down everywhere on east 14th street. You can see this one is the the street walking you see a lot of this throughout the east 14th street in fact in in a little here and you can see again some more branches down just obstructing the sidewalks a lot of people are having to walk around that it still really windy and i would say everyone be cautious look up like even where im at right now im making sure that im not part and are branches or anything because the wind is still very strong. You can see a city worker out there in fact they were out here. Trying just cut down some of the branches are was a tree where was it i guess they they took it out by now yeah, there was one right here that was covering. The lane on the going. I think that would be but you know all throughout is 14 deal either see some branches are big branches that on in the parking spot or over in the lane kind of blocking the stuff like that or on the sidewalk. So you got to be careful if youre walking out your door right now and trying to get to work. You can see this person right here she or he has to walk down the street because its just obstruct it with bunch of branches tree limbs all down the sidewalk so be careful last time i checked, im on my weather app it the winds were about 40 Miles Per Hour. So its still very strong you get really big real once in a while, but you do have a consistent wind. Hitting just a big mess out here on east 14th street and san leandro back to you guys. Okay, yeah, thats just a sample of whats going on down and we have our own weather app to his name is john with a look at Current Conditions now a job pay guys, yeah, we are looking at some winds out there all across the bay area its crazy looking at all those branches down in san leandro and im sure that youre seeing something similar to that. And your neighborhood, especially if you are looking at some of the strongest of winds right now Half Moon Bay, a windy spot right along the coastline and were going to stay windy through much of the morning from the coast for inland areas. All of us susceptible to some of the stronger winds. Its not just those wind prone areas. I mean from san leandro through hayward and oakland winds in the 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour range right now even breezier than that currently in danville Fairfield Vacaville calistoga in sonoma winds have been closer to a 40 to 50 mile per hour range consistently, through the course of this morning, Half Moon Bay, San Francisco center fell petaluma all of us sitting in that same boat. This is 11 45am this morning, inching towards noon time and look at this were still in the midst of some really strong winds by the afternoon and evening commute right here winds starting to come down, but were still breezy just not quite as windy as we are this morning and by tomorrow morning things calming down even a little bit more so so at least theres an end in sight to this. But of course the strong winds all the dry tinder that we have the very dry humidity to these are very dry winds means he ghtened fire danger for the entirety of the bay area whether youre at the coast or whether youre further inland. Winds gusting regularly from 40 to 50 Miles Per Hour and we are going to see these red flag warnings all the way through tomorrow afternoon wind advisories expired 11 00am today. But they also light up the entire day the bay area weve seen wind gusts peaking as high as 80 in getting close to 90 Miles Per Hour up in upper elevations of lake county near middletown. Say holding a 82 Miles Per Hour peak wind gust during overnight hours. Pleasanton nearby there 60 mile per hours that was just a few miles south of pleasanton while oakland pittsburgh on mount diablo also checking in with winds as high the upper 50 mile per hour range during our overnight hours so very windy night dont be surprised if youre stepping outside their some branches, maybe even some garbage trash cans tipping over all over the roadway so watch out for some of those to breeze temperatures today this afternoon really looking good were in the 60s right at the coast and then 70s elsewhere, mid 70s for much of the peninsula low 70s across the south bay temperatures in the east bay in the upper 60s to low 70s with the union city at 69 berkeley at 71. Concord in walnut creek each at 76 degrees. Well in the north bay not much different than that highs also in a range of 70s for your temperatures santa rosa 76 sandra fell at 79 degrees. Heres a look ahead at your next 7 days daytime highs dont change much for inland areas. We remain steady in the upper 70s while mid 70s, not a whole lot cooler than that across the south bay where the bayside areas, coastal areas in the 60s to low 70s for daytime highs. So theres really not a whole lot of temperature variation going on today nor really over the rest of the forecast starting to feel more like fall for sure as we work our way through this week robin. Sorry about that robin looks like your microphone is not connected were going to try to get that fixed for you it doesnt seem like the traffic is too bad. Theyre older now robin. There it is and westbound side of 92, i now from the election and early voting in the u. S. Already surpassing the total number of early votes that we had in the 2016 election and both of the candidates were on the campaign trail talking about the key issues in urging americans to get out and vote. Despite being exposed to coronavirus remember when you are exposed directly to somebody who has it as mike pence was youre supposed to quarantine but he didnt didnt let it stop him from hit the campaign trail. He was in north carolina, you saw there over the weekend at least 5 people in his inner circle have tested positive for coronavirus now as you know you cant test too soon or else youre not going to show that you havent even though you could be spreading in at this point the Vice President has tested negative up till yesterday and his team says he consulted with white house doctors. And then decided to keep traveling. Tim
