Im going to virginia. For thanksgiving. But this trip thats why folks to couple months ago so were going to plan. Seattle for thanksgiving sfo officials attribute the low travel numbers to local Health Officials Health Warnings and travel advisories recommending against travel this year. Health orders that see that really the safest thing to do this year is to stay home thats the biggest difference. Current flight schedules for airlines or 40 of what they had planned to do this time of year before the pandemic hit the domestic terminal looks very ghostlike while the International Terminal looks a bit livelier people came pretty prepared though to fly as safe as possible mask and social distance to do the best and sfo has done a lot to try and keep people safe as well we also have an fasteners that patrol all of our terminals to ensure that masking is happening. And then also weve installed hundreds of clear plastic barriers in places where a face to face interaction might be necessary information be tsa checkpoints and then lastly on the ground youll see physical distancing markers installed about 15,000 of them around the airport traveling to another area and seeing family members puts everyone at a higher risk of contracting coronavirus would you say that traveling. During this pandemic is worth the risk to see your family. Well weve taken all the precautions necessary and. We feel pretty safe about it and its worse seen the people that you havent seen in the whole year. Theres also a recommended Quarantine Bay area wide something to consider before you get on a plane and travel also sfo has sold out of rapid test so you dont want to depend on that before flying out, reporting at sfo Sarah Stinson kron 4 news. Well go down to the south bay where theres developing news this afternoon because San Jose Police just told us who they arrested for a deadly stabbing over the weekend at a church kron fours rob fladeboe joins us now live from san jose with more. And what police just had to say good afternoon rob. Good afternoon. Justine yeah, this is a story that were probably going to be hearing a lot more of in the days and weeks ahead deja vu if you will with regard to the countys controversial sanctuary policy but first things first im here at San Jose Police headquarters where chief eddie garcia just held a News Conference along with the san jose mayor sam liccardo. Chief garcia identified the suspect in connection with the deadly stabbing at Grace Baptist Church on sunday as 32 yearold fernando, hey, susie lopez a homeless individual has been living off and on the streets of san jose for the several months. He is charged with multiple of 2 counts of murder and 3 counts of attempted murder and and various other charges. He was to be arraigned this afternoon is superior court but that the last minute the arraignment was postponed. No reason was given. Now at the news chief garcia said case was entirely preventable that this would happen by the way take a look at the video from sunday night at Grace Baptist Church Near San Jose State University when police were called there about 8 oclock to reports of a multiple stabbing. 2 people stabbed fatally 3 others hospitalized and are expected to survive, but a chief garcia said this a case of this what happened over there was preventable because mister lopez should not have been released from the county jail where he was serving time in connection with a misdemeanor arrest here in san jose back in june. But weve learned that he was also on probation in connection with a Domestic Violence conviction in san joaquin county. Now this Santa Clara County, a sanctuary policy prohibits them from cooperating with federal authorities mister lopez was released from the county jail immigration was not notified he went back out living on the streets and then what happened on the sunday at the church in san jose. Yeah, heres more now from chief garcia on what happened. The sackler county policy prohibits responded immigration detainers. Which allowed the suspect to be released. A suspect lopez was also released by judge following the same Domestic Violence arrest in santa clara. Despite having a violent history on what is known as i mentioned supervised own reconnaissance release program. Received the question what could have prevented this tragedy. I would point to a single thing. But rather of multitude of tools and opportunities that were not utilize or failed. It is also unfair for the burden of rehabilitation to fall on places like great baptist clearly we need to do more. One thing that i want to make clear. And i want to make this abundantly clear. The actions of this suspect in no way reflect that of our diverse beautiful immigrant community that we have in san jose. She garcia made clear that he believes the attacker investigators believe the attack was not racially motivated any way there were people of multiple miss cities. During this attack, but that was not the motive. Chief garcia says investigators believe that this suspect lopez was under the influence of drugs and that may have contributed to what happened there. Chief garcia also revealed that lopez had been deported 3 times which would put on in on the radar of ice ice was not notified that he was going to be really so once again this as a rekindled the debate over the sanctuary policy. You recall this as same thing happened about a year or so ago when a san jose woman named bambi larson i was murdered in her home in san jose allegedly by an undocumented individual who also had been released from the county jail. As mister lopez he remains now once again locked up in the Santa Clara County jail pending his arraignment which was postponed. Live in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news just the.
