Continuing to see those strong winds this morning to gusting regularly into a 40 mile per hour range for parts of the bay area. So thats something that you are definitely going to need to know as youre getting out of bed this morning youre driving to work going to be accompanied by a very noticeable breeze. This morning rc church our view is Crystal Clear and dry these are offshore winds so its keeping any sort of marine layer fog pushed out of the region where we at with winds right now will sonoma Calistoga Napa some of our notably more breezy areas well into a 20 mile per hour range for your wind speeds currently sandra fell Petaluma Santa Rosa also notably windy and will remain fairly windy throughout the morning too we ease off wind speeds gradually through the rest of the day and by the evening tonight were done with the stronger winds but we are definitely in the midst of him right now and paired with dry conditions we do have heightened fire danger does red flag warnings for all of the north bay the inland east bay and then coastal San Mateo County through 05 00pm this evening as i mentioned winds calm down after that point as for temperatures right now were in the 50s and 60s even for some areas alameda and hayward at 6061 degrees billy how in santa rosa each at 60 degrees. You can blame the wind for those warm temperatures keeping things mixed in keeping things warm at the surface. So its warm its windy. Its clear thats what you need to know as youre getting out the door this morning. Rebecca. All right, thank you john and speaking of getting out the door its going to be a really easy time for going to be the bay bridge into San Francisco. In traffic pretty light here on the 8 minutes to make your way across the suspension span and then across the upper deck to that fremont street accent im not tracking any delays for your westbound 80 commune your san mateo drive coming out of the east bay and not connecting over to 1, 1, in foster city, clocking in at just under 15 minutes taking the san bridge and no delays on the flat section and the high rise looks good as well, ill be back with a check of the richmond sandra fell bridge and the golden gate coming up in just a bit back to the news all right rebecca, thank you 5 02 lets get our top story this morning in a dire warning really from. San Francisco Health officials were hospitals are overwhelmed could very well run out of hospital beds. Well by the day after christmas in fact thats what this graph shows us here. This represents the number of icu beds, those those red xs that you see there on the lefthand side those the actual number of available beds and right now its hovering. At about a 100 for the entire city of San Francisco, what the blue line represents is the projection of where those beds will go going forward, you can see the graph goes down. In fact by christmas time it looks like chris San Francisco may cross the 0 line which means no more icu beds which means if you go to the hospital and youre in need of Critical Care in an icu bed that bed will not be available to you and thats the big worry we could have people in hallways struggling to breathe and no icu beds to put them in. James that is exactly why we are seeing more regulations kicked kicked had prompter were seeing more regulations because of the covid cases weve seen in a day and that happened over the weekend take a look more than 30,000 new covid cases on saturday most cases in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic more than 300 new patients admitted to hospitals in our state. The total now 10,000 patients hospitalized because of the virus time is running out for the bay area to get this under control. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live in front of ucsf with the details era. Well daryn it is a windy morning out here and we are still reeling from the frightening message that our Health Director here in San Francisco put out yesterday was a frightening reality check saying, but if we dont get this under control. Doctor grant colfax predicts that we will run out of hospital beds by december 26 now this is an alarming message. But this is a message that quite frankly i think we all needed to hear especially as we go into this lockdown shelterinplace weve all been you know concerned about it, but now i know this is exactly what we need Health Officials sent that message sunday saying right now were seeing the worst covid19 surge in the city. Hospitals are overwhelmed and might not be able to care for those who need it. But unlike other surges every hospital in california is under the same stress so the worry is that there wouldnt even be a place to transfer people if feds do run out. Doctor colfax says in the last month hospitalizations have tripled in the last week have increased by 35 lets hear from doctor fullfat full colfax explain what hes talking about. By january force there will be approximately 206 people in San Francisco in need of a hospital bed. And it seems continue on this trajectory by february 4 years there could be 1600. 1600 people in San Francisco in need of a hospital that if this trend continues and we do not slow the spread of the virus. We will be unable to care for people in San Franciscos hospitals. And its not only because of events but its because we will not have enough nurses and doctors to adequately care for people. So what doctor colfax is saying that even if this happens we dont have enough doctors nurses hospital beds for the covid patients, but also for the regular patients, those who you know get in a car crash or some kind of emergency. So that is a huge concern this is exactly why city officials decided to jump the governors gun saying were going to put the shelter in place before we have 15 of the beds left in the hospitals across our city and so good thing we did that because the predictions are looking grim reporting live in San Francisco Sarah Stinson kron 4 news thats right sara thats while these new regulations are kicking in this weeks life is going to be a lot different. That has been starting today and well have more on that in just a few minutes james yeah we had chance to talk with doctor deborah birx from the White House Coronavirus task force about whether state leaders are making the right decision in shutting things down once again, heres what she had say about that. You know i dont think california has a choice at this moment you know governors and mayors across this great country want to make sure that hospitals are available to every american that needs care. Yes, the americans that need care from this serious virus in this pandemic. But also americans that need care for their other medical conditions and i think every governor and mayor recognizes that although we are moving this vaccine as fast as possible. And it will be immunizing Health Care Workers and a limited number of vulnerable individuals that are and how Long Term Care facilities. That leaves still a 100 million or so americans with comorbidities that we know. Often result in hospitalizations are succumbing to this virus and so were asking everybody to make these changes now how did we end up getting here if we had all warner mask. If we had not gathered outside of our household. Your governor will not be making these recommendations at this point and i think our behaviors will determine the next 4 to 6 weeks of what americans survive and what americans dont survive. And again, heres a reminder of where we are with the coronavirus california statewide we have more than one 0. 2 million cases confirmed so far with nearly 20,000 deaths and for the bay area more than a 166,000 cases with more than 2000 people having died now from covid19 the numbers continue to go up and that is why there is now a lockdown and stay at home order underway in San Francisco santa clara contra costa and alameda counties. And marine county too but theres takes Effect Tomorrow at noon Sonoma Napa Solano and san mateo counties are the only counties in the bay area that are not planning to start this stay at home order. But everybody else is so lets take a look at the new way were doing Business Today and thats with a lot of business closing personal service care stuff like hair salons and barbershops that you got used to go into cant go to those anymore. Dry outdoor playgrounds thats a big one playgrounds are going back to closing now offlimits Entertainment Centers. Zoos and museums are off limits now too all of these businesses go ahead prompter bus now close in national headlines. Plus the south bay porch pirate caught on camera going to have more on this video coming up in just a moment. Meanwhile after the break firefighters are getting ready as part of the bay area deal with some dangerous fire conditions this morning. Well have full details straight ahead. E stiop but obviously you have to maintain social distancing and wear your masks all reservations through january 4th by the way will be canceled. So thats something you also need to take into account if you had a reservation. Its now been canceled i didnt actually think twice and then take a hike today. Yeah i was like wait a minute am i allowed to hike. But you yes, so you can its kind of like back when we first started the lockdown you can get out exercise but you cant sit well member of the bench is even in the playground, the benches were offlimits roped off and Everything Else yeah you keep your mask on and really give everybody else a wide berth as youre passing each other on those trails maintain that distance its a new day kind of like the old and the weather is windy out there i could see it on my way into work jobs now absolutely guys yeah as you put the mask on this morning you might want to keep both hands on it are also below right out of your hands, it is definitely a windy way to start this monday morning. Were talking just a minute ago about those red flag warnings that are in effect and thats the biggest thing about our forecast today. That may be slowing you down a bit the heightened fire danger in your drive into work over bridges, both hands on the wheel because that wind will be noticeable looking outside at our berkeley camera right here over the inland east bay you are seeing those areas of clear skies all the way out to the coastline because we are looking at any fog this offshore wind is pushing any sort of marine layer well away from the coast. So were going to be dry today were off to a warm start and most notably the windy conditions all across the north bay, the inland east bay under coastal areas were red flag warnings are in effect right now and will remain in effect until 05 00pm tonight as you guys just heard that story a moment ago we will be seeing our peak wind gusts are mountain tops as high as 60 Miles Per Hour most gus for other areas around 45 Miles Per Hour. Now one good thing about this wind is it really cleaned up the air quality we saw spare the air alerts over the weekend well now air quality improved because the stagnant air that was in place obviously not so stagnant anymore as those winds rush across the region. Futurecast shows dry skies all across the region well into the afternoon. No fog tonight, it will be another Crystal Clear evening as winds do come down but remain presence enough keeping marine layer offshore for yet another night as for temperatures today are likely to be shattering daytime highs records well into the 70s for daytime highs on this december day now are normal for this time of year is low to mid 60s that are warm us so the 70s could be historically warm for many areas seeing carlos 71 today, san jose and santa clara, each right at 70 degrees. Well upper 60s to low 70s across the east bay oakland youll be at 72 with san leandro and conquer teach at 71 for your highs. Well temperatures in the north bay a step warmer than that even sonoma napa and fairfield at 72 while santa rosa and petaluma each at 73 for your warmest temperature later on today temperatures tomorrow will be just as warm for some areas before we do cool down back to our seasonal averages from wednesday on into the upcoming weekend in lows remain in the 30s with bayside in coastal lows in the 40s and you notice, we remain dry all the way through this weekend into the upcoming weekend. Likely to be staying dry into next week too. Rebecca all right john thank you so much. Things are pretty quiet on the roadways around the bay area not tracking any hot spots, no major delays that is the good news. But yes like john was mentioning in his Weather Report very windy out there and in fact chp has issued a high wind advisory for the bay bridge just take note both hands on Steering Wheel as you make your way westbound 80 coming on a macarthur maze, though youre not going to see a any issues nothing to snag if you drive its going to be a nice commute just a little bit of a windy one across the upper deck into San Francisco, your total drive time those standing in under 10 minutes getting into downtown. Whats 92 year san mateo bridge commute looking great nice and smooth a flat section looks great the high rise all the way over to that 1 one connector in foster city youre looking at about under 15 minutes to make your way out of the east bay over to the peninsula and then checking things out at the richmond sandra fell bridge pretty quiet here just a couple of cars, trickling through the pay gates, a sevenminute drive time for your westbound 5 the ride up to the north bay and speaking of that well have a check of the golden gate. Coming up in just a bit james. All right rebecca, thank you time now is 5. 20 negotiations over a second stimulus package are still ongoing its a bit of a mixed bag, but the good news is congress is close to a bill and a Bipartisan Group of lawmakers is behind it. Its a 900 billion dollar package would provide 300 dollars in extra Unemployment Benefits for you and a freeze on evictions as well. But another round of 1200 stimulus checks apparently will not be included in this package, Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer is urging his colleagues in congress to get this deal done as the money. 13 million americans are receiving in Unemployment Benefits through the cares act is set to expire this month. So there is a Time Critical element to this the bipartisan relief package is part of a larger spending bill thats aimed at avoiding a Government
