That low stratus is a sign of some ocean cooled air that continues to swing across the bay area and keeping us real cool all the way inland. Well, sf santa rosa and a few other spots like alameda and san mateo still in the 50s. Now later today, its 70s to 80s for daytime highs cooler than average for this time of year. And this morning, the cause of the massive fire that happened in San Francisco yesterday is still under investigation. And were hearing more from some of the residents in the area that they say theyve been warning the city about. Encampment fires nearby for months. They think it might have something to do with what happened. Kron fours Michael Thomas is following this live from his valley. What can you tell us right now . Michael . Hi, good morning. Everyone will dari. I actually spoke with the association and they tell me that the city specifically did not respond to their letter a few months ago. And this is exactly what they feared. Take a look at. Crews have been here overnight, really deconstructing whats left of this construction site and ultimately fire chief tells me that its really possibly just one win. Blair away from falling apart completely. You know, this is right at the corner of octavia boulevard and oak street. And again, theyre really taping things off, having people avoid the area because it is so fragile right now. Lets get video from yesterday. You can see just how massive this fire was. And the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association tells me that they reach out to leaders on may 30th and at that time, they told them that they were afraid that this fire or Something Like this would happen. Now, there were a handful of fires in the area. They tell me from tent encampments and at the end of march, the Association Says there was a car that was lit on fire behind this construction site. And actually this construction site had another fire in it in april. You know, they say that they really were just nervous. It was going to get bigger. And it obviously did. Take a look. This is part of the they sent out saying, quote, our neighborhood and our city is literally being trashed and being set on fire. And you all are doing nothing about it. Were asking you to take these issues seriously and remove encampments that pose a danger to our community. Wh we report them instead of throwing your hands up in the air and quote, i spoke with one neighbor who says that she agrees with that message and sometimes its hard for her even to walk through the streets. But in the neighborhood specifically, she says theres also just a lot of encampments in general and she hopes the officials with the city at least start to acknowledge it and do something about it. Out their proffers amanda hari has the story. Milpitas police say the Inappropriate Conduct happened at a Badminton Club that is classes and events for kids of all ages. They felt it was vital for the community to know the details. Its any parents worst nightmare. Their child in danger somewhere. They should be safe. Nope, he does. Police say they started investigating inappropriate relationship. Between 51 yearold fue coo of fremont and a 14 yearold on july 13. Lieutenant Tyler Jamison says the inappropriate contact happened at the milpitas facility with this case, specifically out of an abundance of caution. Lieutenant jamison says parents should talk to their children about these types of situations and look out for signs of trauma. Any time your kids are involved sports. The california high patrol has taken more than 15,000 grams of fentanyl off the streets of San Francisco since they started doing it back on may. 1st, all of this is according to a tweet by the governors office. Its part of operation San Francisco, safe streets, which was launched back in may. Chp says that it only takes 2 milligrams of fentanyl for a person to overdose. So theyve taken off the streets. A lot of fentanyl. Happening today. Fastfood workers in san jose are planning to go on strike. Theyre demanding the city address low pay and what they say as Workplace Violence and unsafe working conditions. Workers are set to strike at the various locations you see on the screen from carls junior to San Jose City hall to the kfc on east santa clara street. Its 907, and a harmful algae called the red tide has started to spread in the water in the bay. A Nonprofit Group called San Francisco bay keeper confirms they found red tide on the sures at board at berkeley and theyre investigate is how far it spread. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson has details. Be on the lookout for that brown water. Its already spreading to shores across the bay area. Scientists say since it was so deadly last year, theyre worried about what another bloom could do to our ecosystem. Francisco baykeeper received reports from its pollution hotline about discolored brown water in the Berkeley Marina investigation. Team. Went out scanned the east shoreline and found that the brown water actually extended from emeryville up to albany. Scientists took samples and confirmed to be the same algae that bloomed last year, killing thousands of fish hatteras xi. Well. Which forms a red tide when it when it blooms. This organism is an algae that occurs in the bay naturally. When it gets out of balance, it can cause a bloom harming fish. There are no reports of a big fish kill so far but the algae is reportedly spreading. Almena a rich man. Were getting reports from timber on and also off the coast of the peninsula that on the bay side and up into the and some public they keep are still investigating and testing the water in those areas. Normally the red tide is not known to be a Public Health risk, but there are some precautions you can take. Should the plume become worse . The advice is. Im just keep your eyes keeping those if water looks discolored or smells funky, then its probably best not to swim in or let your dog swimming scientists fear another bloom could be detrimental to the base ecosystem. It would be really bad. Our fish and wildlife in San Francisco bay are already struggling from a bunch of things to minimize harm. Bay keeper. Scientists are calling on the Regional Water board to limit the nutrient pollution that goes into the bay from wastewater plants. If you come across dead fish in the bay, youre advised to contact in report that. To the state water board and to bay keepers, they have a pollution hotline that you can call. And in the process of doing so will contribute to a nice warm up this weekend. If you love the heat well, you got it in the triple digits for inland areas come saturday and sunday. 60s are not going anywhere towards the coastline, though, because were not cutting off access to that ocean air. That means San Francisco coastal areas, youre not budget, youre going to stay nice and cool. Now for areas further inland, you are going to be seeing a very dramatic change of pace 70s along the bayshore, the south bay and even for some of our inland spots like the tri valley are going to be gone a matter of the weekend. The bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms is looking at this. And they say that ghost guns theyve been trace them and they found they recovered by Law Enforcement more than 1000 more frequently between 2016 2021. So they say its a bigger problem in this bill would crack down on the rapid production of ghost guns and sellers by requiring sellers to have a manufacturers license and put a serial number on the gun and requiring buyers to undergo a background check. But not for as long as they originally planned. No. In fact, last night the board of supervisors voted to cut that time in half, although its still a Pretty Healthy chunk. The updated ordinance has reduced the jail time from 6 months to 3. We also do know that this was voted and approved by a 3 to one of vote. The board of supervisors first put the ordinance in place to stop the increasing number of sideshows are seeing in the county. Any amount of people who are attending these sideshows. The first ordinance was passed on july 11th, including jail time and fines geared toward spectators who 200 feet of a sideshow. The sites facing up to 3 months in jail. Spectators could be charged with a misdemeanor and be fined up to 1000. The board president says the original ordinance in over lee felt included amendment that board had voted on to lower the potential jail terms when it was originally passed on july. 11th, there is some pushback from attorneys who question the legality of charging people with crimes who are on public property who may or may not be viewing those sideshows. The Alameda County public defender, brendon woods is questioning the ordinance constitutionality and is concerned about people of color being swept up by this law for Law Enforcement to prove a prior acts of being at one of those sideshows in the past 3 years, a lot goes into effect. Knight, 32 right now and in the south bay, about 4500 people who work for the city of san jose are voting whether or not to authorize a strike, they want better pay and benefits and the workers. And san joses mayor says that this offers more than generous. We want to pay our workers as aggressively as we can. But we also have to fair to our residents who pay taxes in basic city services. The time in a sacramento woman is now facing charges in connection with an incident where shes accused of Walking Around the bay bridge naked while firing a gun. So korea duncan pleaded not guilty in court. All of the charges, including shooting at a vehicle and making criminal threats. Its allegedly had been driving recklessly on eastbound 80 and then you see video of her getting out of the car, make it walking across lanes of traffic. We blurred it out. She apparently fired shots into the air. Police say fired shots at some passing vehicles. The incident happened last week on tuesday during rush hour. It was a traffic nightmare for commuters trying to get to the east bay. The court hasnt set bail yet. So shes currently behind bars in custody if convicted of all charges she could face more than 22 years in prison. Shes expected to be in court again next friday. The San Francisco police have arrested a man for allegedly attacking a Sandwich Shop owner. Peterson harter who you see here. He owns sandys in the hate and he said he was punched in the face by a man outside his own shop about 2 weeks ago. Harder said he was trying to tell the man to stop urinating on the stores trash cans when the man assaulted him. Police have since identified that suspect as urban rivera. He was arrested on saturday for battery. Its 9. 37, in san jose. Mayor matt mahan launched a new program. Its a Pilot Program launched last night which was National Night out. And this event is to help build relationships between the police and the cotmunity. He says this program is called together as j. And used a 1 Million Dollar grant from the state to started. The focus is Community Safety and reducing loneliness. The mayor says the program will start with them, getting surveys from people in their neighborhoods. And then the look at the data. Investment in training and helping them use 3, 1, one emergency preparedness. Enjoy Neighborhood Watch and organize cleanups that they are going to see a safer and cleaner neighborhood and have more trust in government.
