Federal court. The charges stemming from his alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 president ial election. Thanks so much for joining us at 9. Im Vicki Liviakis and im dan thorn in the most serious charges for the former president called for up to 20 years in prison. Washington correspondent jessi tenure joining us live from washington with the latest. Jesse . Yeah, good evening, dan vicki said the former president continues to maintain his innocence saying really all this is about the 2024 election. This is a very sad day for america. Former President Donald Trump returned to the Nations Capital thursday where he pleaded not guilty to felony criminal charges related to efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss. You can be you persecute him or you prosecute him. We cant let this happen in america. Trump is the only person charged in the case so far and his legal team argues its an attack on his right to free speech. This is about politics. Its about 2024. Carried the trump attorney. Alina que special counsel jack smith of trying to distract trump from his next president ial campaign. But smith defended his case. We have one set of laws in this country and apply to everyone. Democrats, including california congressman adam schiff say there has to be accountability for the january 6 attack on the u. S. Capitol. If you give people a pass, a new tell future president s. They can do anything they want. They can commit any violation of the law. They want to never be held accountable. That would be very dangerous. But republicans, including House Speaker Kevin Mccarthy argued the Justice Department is trying to interfere with the 2024 president ial election. It seems as though every time trumps goes higher in the poll he gets a new indictment. And the judge set the next hearing in this case for august 28th, which comes just days after the first republican president ial debate and trump is likely to skip both of those live in washington. Im jessi tenure. Yeah. Its the 3rd criminal case brought against trump in less than 6 months. So where did those cases stand . Yeah. So theres a case in new york thats related to a hush money payment back from the 2016 campaign. And then in florida related to classified documents that were found at trumps home there at maralago. Now he has pleaded not guilty to all of those charges as well. And those trials are set to put take place next year, really at the height of the campaign. All right, jesse, thanks a lot. Also tonight were hearing from political experts about charges today. Im shocked by the fact that you could have all of these different charges happening at the same time. And i dont find it coincidental that are happening on the on on on the out, on the onset of the president s election in this upcoming election cycle. I think, you know, the prosecutions had ample time to bring these charges to to really ramp up these charges. And all the sudden its happening now, whether you cause found guilty or innocent. We want the process to play out the fairway and i think it would be bad in the long run for us a nation. If we russia Legal Process simply to to make it in time for an election. The next hearing in trumps 2020 election conspiracy case has been set for august. 28 just days after the first debate in the 2024. Republican president ial primary. And as we mentioned, President Trump and has now pleaded not guilty to all 3 criminal cases. Filed against him. Going to take a look at the he was first indicted in new york back in march on state charges stemming from hush money payments made during the 2016 president ial campaign. Prosecutors accuse him of paying off adultfilm star Stormy Daniels to bury allegations of extramarital encounters. Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. He is set to appear in state court december 2 months before republicans begin their nominating process. Then in june, special counsel jack smith charge trump in a federal case in florida. This one is related to the mishandling of classified documents found at maralago was also the First Federal case against a former president. Trump has pleaded not guilty to 40 felony counts against him, including charges of retaining classified information, obstructing justice and making false statements. A federal judge has scheduled a trial in this case for next may. And then todays case, the president pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to those charges. Again, a 4th case is also in the works. They could have temperatures up to 110 and up to the north of us. We have this low pressure system. So what does that mean for us . What were getting about average temperatures today, some places. Below average, but just by a little bit. So oakland, your average is 71. Were at 68 today. Santa rosa, your averages. 83. Were at those cooler temperatures just because were right in both systems and with that marine layer. And we have that fog just keeping the cooler temperatures.
