The president also expressed his support for israel, but also expressed some concerns for the innocent people and got our washington correspondent, Alexandra Limon joins us now live with the very latest on the stories of how is the president s visit being received . He had just seen, you know, President Bidens visit to tel aviv was a historic one because this is the first time a u. S. President has visited israel while that country is at war. Thank you for standing with israel today. And always while in israel, President Biden strongly condemned the hamas terrorist attack through tally. We to cut anywhere in the world. But it cuts deeper. Here. It is real virtually every. This really has been touched by the body had u. S. Officials announced plans for new aid to israel. Im going ask United States congress for on fresh support package. For defense, the president said the u. S. Is also helping in other ways pursuing every avenue to bring home. Those were being helped captive by hamas. President biden also expressed concern for innocent Palestinian Civilians in gaza who are being devastated by the war, including the hundreds who are killed or injured in an explosion at a gaza hospital which sets us apart from the tears. As we believe in the fundamental dignity of every human life. Hamas blames israel for targeting the hospital. But israel says the blast was caused by a malfunctioning rocket fired by militant groups in gaza. United states on critically stands for the protection of civilian life during conflict while returning to washington on air force one, President Biden said conversations with both the israeli Prime Minister and the egyptian president led to an agreement to allow limited humanitarian aid into gaza. I longest need. To support. Getting humanitarian aid to gas. Just and President Biden also announced 100 Million Dollars in new funding will be headed to gaza and the west bank live in washington. Alexandra limon, alex, thank you. Students across the bay area walked out of class today calling for a ceasefire in the middle east. Kron 4 s Charles Clifford has more now from the group behind this walkout and how one School District is now responding. Well, here in San Francisco on wednesday morning, hundreds of Students Walked out of their classrooms to protest the ongoing conflict between israel and hamas. Many of these students are of error, palestinian or muslim descent. And they are calling on israel to end its attacks in gaza. I think in the short immediate ceasefire. By u. S. Media. I think that the world hear our voices our call for justice. I think its very important know whats going on. And thats something not stopped. Also today at San Francisco city hall, local leaders expressed their support for the Students Walk out. I want to remind everybody that theres a large air, a palestinian and Muslim Population right here in the city of San Francisco. They are going to School Every Day feeling the gravity of this moment and they need those in positions of power to take care of them to see them and to make them not only feel visible but feel heard. Now on wednesday afternoon, the San Francisco unified School District also issued a statement of support for the students adding that as a School District, the champions, diversity and social justice. It is imperative that our schools are safe spaces where each and every one of our students feel like they belong, feel heard and received the support they need to process and heal. That is the very latest here in San Francisco. Charles clifford kron. 4 news. A 3. 1 earthquake shook parts of Northern California today. It hit around 9. 30, this morning in the city of 1010. Thats about 65 miles east of San Francisco. So far more than onethousand. Did you feel it . Responses have been sent to the usgs and this follows a 4. 7 quake that hit along californias north coast on monday. So even if you didnt feel the quake, you likely got an alert on your phone. That quake triggered the shake alert app and also the Early Warning earthquake system. The apted overstate the magnitude at first calling it a 5. 7 and ended up being a 4. 0. One. The usgs says that the shake alert app works with very Little Information in the first few seconds of a quake. Its meant to really give you a chance to prepare and try to stay safe. So well talk about that and get a closer look at the map as exactly where that quake was. We all got that alert. I was like, was yeah, i know we all got that alert. It is a moment where you definitely look at your phone to thankfully not hearing if there are any problems of injuries with news. But yeah, 4. 1. It was 9. 29. This morning. You can see the location here. So it is to the east of antioch. That gives you a little bit of a reference, but its also just about miles southsouthwest of ill 10 and the depth on this one was about 6. 7 miles. So this was the did you feel it map that the usgs puts out that people can get online and say where they felt this was the center. But you can see as these kind of blue lines lead out where it was felt it was felt in walnut creek. It was felt in fairfield. It was fell down in livermore. So a lot of it was east bay. I did not feel it here in San Francisco at work were down on the embarcadero. But a 4. 1 is considered a light earthquake. Believe it or not. I know some of us would argue that point. There are about 10,000 of them per year and the Energy Equivalent would be about 33,000 pounds of explosives. So obviously, as you head into those higher numbers, you see exponentially that that kind of increase is right to see like 32,000 pounds for for. But then that increases to a bigger number. Much bigger number about a Million Pounds there of explosive. You get to a 5. So thats the thing about earthquakes. Its about the exponential increase is not so much. Just the the number 8, the for the 5 as we take a live look outside. Its been all about the beautiful blue skies out there, but certainly the warmer temperatures as we abe sitting as you can see, one of my gauges in San Francisco thats inland now hitting about 82 degrees. It tell should beach is still in those upper 60s. Were 73. At half moon bay, 90 degrees in santa rosa. 91 in saratoga, you see some upper 80s in the inner east bay, too, including the late host sitting at 89. So these would be the records that we would need to beat today. I dont think were going to get San Francisco would be 88 degrees. You can see santa rosa, though, napa up in those almost upper 90s and happen. They would have to get to. 82 tomorrow is a different story. And tomorrow is also in the rest of the bay goes under this heat advisories. We get late tonight into tomorrow that kicks in. And thats because were expecting those above average temperatures. Unfortunately, some danger out at the coast will talk about that when it come back in just a bit for now, it back to the desk. Thank you so much. The San Francisco board of supervisors have approved new guidelines on when security guards can pull their guns. This is in response to the brown killing from earlier this year. Kron 4 Michael Thomas has the latest. The passing of this new proposal means a private security guards in the city of San Francisco will no longer be able to draw their guns on shoplifters if theyre protecting property. City Officials Saying its really to prevent senseless killings. All comes just 6 months after the brown kill it. This is video from april of this year when a young person by the name of banco brown was shot and killed by security while attempting to leave a walgreens with a bag of stolen goods. This law was brought forth by supervisor dean preston, who says at the time of the situation, the City Police Code allowed security to draw their guns. Not only in response to an actual threat to people, but in the defense of property, this approval would remove all and any property reference in it with Officials Saying that state guidelines and training of peace officers has previously said that drawing a weapon may escalate things, adding that the state training already limits trying guns in the situation to defend life but not property. They go on to say the Community Members have criticized the local law saying that drawing a gun on a suspected shoplifter for petty theft isnt was an inappropriate response and what was approved by the board of supervisors. Mayor london breed could technically still veto. Is, however, a she will time will tell. I did reach out to her office to ask what her thoughts were as she continues to crack down on crime in the city. Reporting from San Francisco, Michael Thomas kron. 4 police in alameda confirmed the body found near the Bay Farm Island bridge is the woman who went missing over the weekend. They say desiree huey, who went by lisa was last seen at her home near the san antonio avenue area on saturday morning. Police say that he we talked on the phone with a Family Member that day that she went missing, saying that she was going for a short walk. This is something that her family says that she did quite often. And at this time, were told investigators do not suspect foul play in her death. Happening tonight, the Martinez Refining Company will brief the city on what they have done to prevent another release of chemical dust into the air. Like what happened last thanksgiving, a 3rd party lab. Look at the material that went into the air and identify did has spent catalyst. The refinery will also discuss what cars smaller releases, including one that happened the morning of october 6th. Also talk about the ongoing plans to increase worker safety. That meeting is set for 7 oclock tonight. But coming up this hour on kron 4 news, another day without a House Speaker as ohio representative jim jordan fails to get enough votes from his own party will get the latest from washington, d. C. , plus the Teachers Union in sausalito has reached a tentative agreement with the district details of how a strike there was a void. But first, as People Get Ready to beat the heat at some beaches, officials are warning about sneaker waves and rip currents. Well have some tips on how you can stay safe the Teachers Union and are in School District have come to a tentative agreement just as the union became one step closer to calling for a strike. And this is the final meeting before the 2 sides meet again forn mediation. So children will now be required to learn cursive in the classroom. Last friday, governor gavin newsom signed a bill that requires curse of to be taught from first to 6th grade. The goal is to give students the ability to read and write in cursive. So kirsten will not be a required part of school just like learning english math and social sciences. The u. S. Government officially remove curse of learning from k through 12 education in 2010. So the heat is returning to the bay area today and tomorrow. So people want to cool off of the beach might want to. You know, be a little bit safe because there is some dangerous surfed conditions they could become life threatening for people at the beach. We did speak with a former coast guard member to get some tips and how to stay safe. Dont go into the ocean and try to save your friends. The coast guard has enough time dealing with one people. One person in the ocean let alone multiple people in the ocean. So your first thing never turn your back on the ocean. Always maintain your senses. And if you see somebody in trouble, pick up your phone and call 911. The coast guard is just over the hill there out here practicing all the time. Theyll be the first people to respond somebody in danger in the ocean. All right. A live look here so we can see whats happening across ocean beach right now. I want to dive in and cool not be a bad idea . Got to be careful about its going over that with us now. Yeah, we do have some things to look out for. I know its gorgeous. Theres no doubt about it. We look at that live picture. But we have been under this beach hazard statement since yesterday. It goes through till tomorrow morning because we have a risk of sneaker waves and rip currents. Now that is not the only danger, unfortunately, tomorrow were going to turn that into a high surface advisory. So that is to say that while the coast will be cooler, its going to be a dangerous place to be. So if youre headed out there or if you have guests who are headed out there, make sure theyre aware that those waves could surge really far from the beach much farther than youre used to. They can sweep you off your feet. That water is awfully cold and you never want to turn your back to the ocean. As youre hearing that, a guy said he used to work with the coast guard, right . Hes right about that water temperature about 58 degrees right now. Just a threepoint race. Weve got a northwest swell and that is whats going to drive some of these waves to get really big tomorrow, especially those north and northwest facing beaches where we could see waves. There are upwards of about 17 feet. So very, very dangerous conditions. And anyone whos lived around here for a long, you know, you know how difficult that can be when youre out of the water and things can change quickly right now, wave heights, as you can see off of point raise about 9 feet. But again, that will be increasing as we get into tomorrow. So now you may want to head to the coast to beat the heat. I totally get that because that is certainly going to be one of our cooler spots out there today. 70s tomorrow about 80 degrees. And then by friday, of course, as across the rest of the bay, were going to cool it down and then really cool it down as we get into the weekend. But if you are headed that way, just make sure youre being safe and youre aware of the fact that those sneaker waves in particular can get real tricky, real fast. As we look outside, beautiful equate our the blue skies. Sure are nice today. Temperatures in parts of San Francisco as you head inland is 84 degrees. My official downtown San Francisco gage has not been working. The National Weather Service Working on that, but at least we know its about 69 out ocean beach about 84 as you get inland in San Francisco, oakland, in the upper 70s, san jose upper 80s. Same story in livermore santa rosa. Just 90 degrees in half moon bay. 72. So you get the idea if youre in the south bay right now, if youre in the santa cruz mountains, youre already under this heat advisory. You will be under it tonight for the rest of starting 11 00pm until tomorrow at 11 00pm. And then you can see we finally do get a break from the heat on friday and then saturday and sunday. Take a look at that. Temperatures just rocketing down and even a chance of a few showers will drizzle coming our way as we get into sunday. If you dont like the heat, just hang on a minute. I kind of like the heat. So im going joy for the next 24 hours. Back to you. Thank you. Kyla. Lawmakers in the house of representatives are still no closer to naming their next speaker.
