Reporter President Trump fulfilling a Campaign Promise to end a Controversial Program that protected some Illegal Immigrants from deportation. We have no choice. We have to be able to do something and i think its going to work out very well. Reporter the Trump Administration calling it quits on the deferred action for Childhood Arrivals Program better known as daca. Under the obama era effort, Illegal Immigrants who came to the u. S. As kids were allowed to stay in the country. President trump is said to have made his final decision on the matter over the past weekend. We are people of compassion and we are people of law. But there is nothing compassionate about the failure to enforce immigration law. Reporter hundreds of thousands of immigrants commonly referred to as dreamers rely on the program. The department of Homeland Security has now formally rescinded it with a sixmonth delay for current recipients. Congress according to the administration now needs to address the issue. Its congresss job to legislate. Its not the president s job to create law. Reporter the backlash has been swift in an unusual move, president obama issued a statement saying, to target these young people is wrong, because they have done nothing wrong. Permits that expire between now and march 5, 2018, have until october 5th to renew. Any new applications received before today will still be processed. In washington, Lauren Blanchard, fox news. Former president Barack Obama Says the Trump Administrations decision is cruel and selfdefeating saying, whatever concerns or complaints americans may have about immigration in general, we shouldnt threaten the future of this group of young people who are here through no fault of their own, who pose no threat, who are not taking away anything from the rest of us. Mr. Obama urged congress to pass a bill fixing the situation with, quote, a sense of moral urgency. As we said, demonstrations are being held all over the country including here in the bay area, specifically in berkeley and San Francisco. Paul chambers is live in the city with how dreamers are reacting. Paul. Reporter frank, this is the second showing and outing of this group. They had a press conference earlier. Now, there are hundreds of people demonstrating against they say not only the reversal on daca but they want to support the 11 million undocumented people who have no pathway to citizenship. Reporter he is one of nearly 800,000 People Living in the United States part of the deferred action for childhood arrivals, or daca. 17 years ago, his family moved to the u. S. Reporter she said the president rescinded the daca program which was a policy that former president barack obama created through an executive order. Trump is taking that victory from us, um, but i think its again it needs to be a moment for all of to us unite, um, rather than, um, become pessimistic, step up and fight even harder and make sure that we dont become divided. Reporter the policy protected hundreds of thousands of young undocumented people who came to the u. S. Before 2007. The end of the program is just the beginning of a new battle for this woman and nearly a million others. Apples ceo tim cook to tweeted his support of the dreamers yesterday sent a memo today to apple employees. Obtained by ktvu, it says, i am deeply dismayed that 800,000 americans including more than 250 of our apple coworkers may soon find themselves cast out of the only country they have ever called home. The statement continues, we issue an urgent plea for our leaders in washington to protect the dreamers and despite this setback for our nation, im confident that American Values will prevail. U. S. Senator Kamala Harris of california reacted by calling on republicans in congress to bring the dream act to a vote. She said, quote, the consequences of this decision will be devastating. It will split up families, force young people back to countries they never knew, and cost our economy billions of dollars. It is heartless. President trump is giving congress six months to address daca and come up with a legislative solution. On the four on 2 david levine said, dont expect congress to work out a solution for the dreamers. These are people who have done the right thing, they didnt come here of their own volition. They are in school. They are working. The criminal rate is so low with them. So if you could stay with just that you actually probably could get bipartisan support. The problem is, is that it will be very tempting to load up other things. Lets say the price for keeping daca was the border wall. That means youre going to lose all the democrats. Since the president took office, the Republican Controlled Congress has been unable to pass any major legislation including a bill to repeal obamacare and thats why professor levine thinks the president here is just setting up congress to take the blame for undoing daca. Notice, he didnt get out there in front. He made attorney general sessions get out there. Is mr. Trump so shy of cameras that he couldnt get out there and defend his own program . He is setting it up for failure after failure. Its not his problem. On the campaign trail, President Trump assured dreamers they could rest easy but in a Statement Today the president blamed former president obama for violating the constitution when he issued an executive order to protect the dreamers from being deported. This state is home to 223,000 Daca Recipients making up roughly 30 of all Daca Recipients in the u. S. Followed by texas, new york, illinois and florida. Bay area congressman ro khanna says he is disappointed in the decision. These are young men and women who grew up in the United States, who went to school in the United States, were working or contributing to the economy. Its not just morally wrong. Its also going to hurt us economically. The study by the center for American Progress also says dreamers have launched their own businesses. More than half have purchased a car. And one in ten has bought a home. Today the California Attorney general Xavier Becerra announced plans to sue the Trump Administration over ending daca and more than 30 california lawmakers are vowing to pass bills to help Daca Recipients including legislation that would limit Immigration Enforcement on college campuses. For all the streaming and the shopping and the newsing, but most of all. For the this. Internet for one everyday simple price and no extra monthly fees. Parts of the greater houston area are still under water as the massive Recovery Efforts continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Now with potentially toxic trash and flood debris piling up on the streets, harvey related Health Concerns are rising, as well. Health officials are warning people who have come in contact with floodwaters to consider getting a tetanus shot. Some communities are still working to get clean Drinking Water back online. Many businesses are returning to some normalcy opening their doors for the first time in days. Ken wayne was in houston last week reporting on the damage firsthand traveling with bay area First Responders who rescued people from the flooded neighborhoods. What stood out to you the most being there . You were there for several days . Reporter yeah. After in katrina and houston there were big differences between the two disasters that really affected the entire cities. In texas, there was this real can do spirit that you hear about but when you actually see it in action its real. There were civilians going out in their own private boats, big giant fourwheel drive trucks were out there hauling things around. They have this thing called the cajun navy, regular guys out there and they had walkie talkiies. They were using apps on their cell phones to communicate with each other. And these pictures here are a lot of civilians. These are civilians that are out there rescues people. So one thing about texas is they take of themselves. And they really dont expect to get help right away. So they were on it. I was impressed with that. I saw a tweet, a picture of a long line of people. At first glance you would think it was a long line of people waiting for aid. In this case, it was a long line of people waiting to volunteer. Reporter right. They were turning away volunteers. Thats how texas is. People really took care of even other. I didnt hear anybody grumble on complain about any of the conditions. These were people who lost everything. Nobody complaining. Everybody pitching in to help and yeah, i saw boats lined up onramps waiting to get in to help people. And they said, we have enough boats. Everything is covered. So they would go well were going to go to beaumont then, well go somewhere, where we can help. Is there one image or two that stand out to you . Reporter its all these pictures kind of sum it up. Its just big areas the scope of it was huge. I didnt realize i dont know anything about houston and i still dont know a lot about it, but its a very large spreadout city, kind of like l. A. , you know, you can drive for an hour and youre still in houston on a freeway. Its a vast spreadout flat city. And there were large areas under water. I mean, a lot of parts of houston were fine. They may have had power issues or whatever. But to see miles of neighborhoods under water was really something. Is there ever a sense when youre out there just a feeling of helplessness in the sense that you cant help everyone . Reporter well, i think, you know, you have to prioritize. And the number one thing is to save lives. So, you know, when we got there early, 4 00 tuesday morning, and by then, the people who needed to get out had gotten out. The people who decided to stay behind put their lives in danger and thats why these people had to go into these flooded areas as you see in these pictures and make sure that they were out of their homes. After that, then it becomes the very heartbreaking process of you just lost all your possessions, personal effects and that kind of thing, but to have a city of 2. 2 Million People and only lose 60 lives in this kind of a storm is pretty amazing. When you would talk to the firefighters, thats what they do, i mean, theyre there, the firefighters from the bay area, theyre there to to to help. But what would they tell you . Was it hard for them . Or were helping, doing something . Reporter i think they want to help and i think they get pumped up to go out and help. They train for this all the time. These guys are specialized. This is a very specific skill set that they have. And you know, when you train all that time, you want to put it to use. So if they can get out there and save lives i think they were excited and pumped up to go out there and save some lives and do some good. And they did. Any last thoughts . Just hope things get better fast. Its a long process. Im worried about florida and irma. Thank you. A half billiondollar renovation is now complete. And today we got our first tour. Coming up a look at the all new and expanded Moscone Center in San Francisco. Its still humid out there, foggy at the coast so we are changing around again back to a more typical pattern. Theres fog on san bruno montgomery. Well have the forecast coming up. Police in fairfield are investigating a shooting that killed one person and injured two others. Detectives say last night someone approached the house on Tanglewood Drive and opened fire hitting three people inside the garage. You can see that the house and several cars were riddled with bullet holes. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. Another was critically injured. The third person is expected to survive. Its a terrible thing. I mean, unfortunately shootings and homicides here recently. At least in this one we dont believe this is random. So the Community Needs to stay safe and vigilant. No word on motive. No arrests. The ninth homicide in fairfield in the year. A rightwing protestor pled not guilty this morning to a weapons charge. 42yearold kyle chapman is accused of one felony count of possession of a leaded billy club. Reporter San Francisco mayor ed lee cut the ribbon on the completion of the half billiondollarplus phase 2 of the newly refurbished and greatly expanded Moscone Center. All of this will make the new center far more competitive with other major Convention Cities worldwide with San Francisco a bonus for conventioneers and make no mistake, many conventioneers come back to the bay area for vacations making moscone a major selling point for the region. A great source of revenue for the city because it is the number one economic driver but also, for the city as a whole, that for years to come. Its not only gonna increase capacity so we can host these conventions, its also going to increase capacities in our hotels and our restaurants and our small businesses. It will help us Fund Healthcare services, education, child care and so many things that we believe that were be providing to the citizens of San Francisco. Reporter the south lobby is redone but whats built upstairs grew the facility. On the second floor a massive new hightech ballroom that can be walled off to accommodate any size events. On the third floor a large conference and display hall that can accommodate one or many events. The improvements continued ever since the facility first opened 31 years ago. It was never, ever the idea of stopping. You needed the size and the space and the convenience, and thats what this is all about and youre gonna continue to see it. Reporter next door a huge new foundation is being equipped to house another massive conference and display hall that will be open in 18 months. From that new facility a bridge will connect the north hall across the street. That will make the expanded center 1. 5 million square feet. Actual conventions start here beginning saturday. But most of us will be able to see this Convention Center in its new expanded form during the auto show in november. And what an experience that will be. Tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. Oh it happened sunday morning at about 8 00 right underneath the golden gate bridge. All of a sudden i saw a whale that look like it was pretty it was coming towards me and i got ply camera out and on my phone and took a video and you can see in the video that it came out right in front of me. Sure did. I dont know if its a picture there or not, but the tail looks as big as the boat. Bigger. Enormous he said that there were actually two or three whales swimming in the area and as you can see there they came mighty close to his boat. He seemed pretty calm. I dont know if i would be that calm. [ laughter ] see that big whale sticking out with the tail whales arent usually aggressive. They might bump you by accident. They are so beautiful and graceful. It wouldnt be their intentions, they just accidentally knock into you. 50 feet long, but they are not aggressive. Its funny because thats most likely a humpback, it looks like from the pictures. But we are seeing unprecedented numbers of those off our coast this year. Last year, too. But they are saying that they were down to 500 humpback whales back, you know, 50 years ago. And now theres 20,000 out in the pacific so its nice its nice to see those comebacks. We are seeing bait fishing closer to shore anchovies and sardinas. Its wonderful to see that. The satellite image shows cloud cover and fog at the coast. The fog is coming in now. Im super happy to see it. I know you are, too. It hasnt really made things cold. San francisco today we are still in the upper 70s and low 80s. Its 70 right now. Its a little cooler in oakland, a little cooler in hayward but not much than yesterday. But certainly cooler. Theres the fog. Certainly cooler than we were just a few days ago. So things are mellowing out based on no spare the air, no fire warnings, no heat warnings. But the pattern continues, hot in the inland bay valleys but well continue to see some humidity filter into the area from tropical storms down off baja. So as we head into wednesday, more of the same. Its nice. Its humid, its a little sticky but not as bad as it was. Fog forecast for the morning this helps a lot especially around the basin. If the humidity is bothering, at least the fog is cool and moist. Forecast highs tomorrow maybe a little cooler in some places. 88 vacaville. But funny thing about 88 in vacaville, when youre doing 35, 40 humidity which in fact we are in vacaville and fairfield and areas like that, that seems pretty hot. That feels like to a west coast person, 88 degrees and 40 humidity is uncomfortable and thats where we are today and probably will be again tomorrow in terms of humidity. Probably 35, 40 humidity. We are usually down in the 20s. 22 Something Like that. 84 and even less inland where its drier like in livermore. But the moisture from the storms, those tropical storms, filtered in. But other than that, i mean, we have a nice pattern set up. We have a fiveday forecast i think youll like that will include warm towards the weekend. Dont sweat the sprinkles. Its similar to the other day, nothing to change your plans over. Just as long as we keep it below 100. Now that our weather is kind of back to normal, that hurricane over there thats coming toward florida, category 5. Category 5. Thats strong. 185mileanhour winds, irma. I cant imagine that. 185mileanhour winds is over 100 yards. Its over 50 miles those core wind speeds. Over land does it knock it down . Warmer waters pick it up. When it goes over the islands, the friction from the land mass, from the mountains and the topography slow the flow into the hurricane and break it down. So that it will weaken. The models are suggesting to a category 4 before it moves into u. S. Territory. Its heading straight for some of those islands. Strongest hurricanes potentially ever recorded in the atlantic. They are saying now potentially is it looking like it could hit possibly hit florida by sunday . Yeah. Sunday and it does it definitely the models i think i showed earlier the various models, 8 models and the consensus is florida. A little bit on the southeastern or southwestern side but somewhere on the tip. The models are pretty good so it will be close to that, about sunday. At the declared a state of emergency there.
