KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 7am October 19, 2017

Get used to the dark, dave. Yes. Good morning, gasia. And to you. Low clouds have pushed in. Most locations say cloudy to mostly cloudy. Numerous reports of drizzle. That will continue. Waiting on the front that will get here later. If youre heading to the game tonight, 5 25, could be late rain in the second half. The system continues to come in without stalling or slowing down. Then it wont wont be an issue. I would plan on it. 64 kickoff. 62 at halftime. We do have good wind out there from 20 to 44 Miles Per Hour. Morning drizzle. Evening or overnight rain,. 15 to half an inch, more the farther north you go. Not so much the south. If it makes it all the way south, that would be a bonus. Theres not a lot but some enhancements on the back side of it. Upwards of three quarters of an inch. Not so much to the south but. 14 in Boulder Creek would be good. About quarter of an inch around oakland would be good as well. 40s on the temps. They havent changed much and i doubt they will. That brings up the humidity and temperatures in the 40s. A few breaks in the low clouds. Theres a lot to go around. 40s and 50s on the temp. On shore breeze will turn westerly as the rain gets closer. If rain develops, it will be late tonight. The wind will pick up. There is a Winter Weather advisory until 11 00 tonight to 11 00 tomorrow above the 6500 foot level. The system is slowly moving in on the north coast. 60s, 60s, low 70s. 7 02, sal. What do you have, sir. We have traffic that will be busy this morning on 80 westbound. We keep watching it because it keeps getting busier and busier. Were in 45minute territory between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze. A lot of that traffic comes after richmond for the drive to the macarthur maze. When you get to the bay bridge, another 25 minutes before you make it on to the span. San francisco traffic is better than it was yesterday. We havent had any problems on 101. But it is already slow on 101 from about the 280 interchange to the 80 split. 880 is also filled in. We had an accident at decoto road. Traffic is stacked up from 238 all the way down to the scene. 7 03. Back to the desk. A San Francisco Police Officer is in the hospital in grave condition this morning after being strung by a car yesterday by a suspect who wanted to get away from police. Allie rasmus is at zuckerberg General Hospital in San Francisco. What do you know now . Reporter the officers name has not officially been released by the police department. But we know he went through surgery last night and came out of it and is in intensive care this morning and his injuries are very serious. This happened around 12 20 in the afternoon when officers got a call about an officer down. This is between van ness and franklin. The officer who was on bicycle patrol was deliberately struck by a man driving a vehicle. A man that police were about to question for a firearms violation possibly. Officers observed the suspect in a vehicle they believed was in possession of a firearm. It appears the suspect became aware of the officers presence and fled the scene in the vehicle. Reporter now, a couple of hours after that hit and run, police found the vehicle involved, a cream colored lexus suv. They arrested the man who they believed was the driver of the of that vehicle. The male was arrested in the tenderloin area on ellis street. It did not appear that the man resisted arrest. Police have not released the name of the suspect yet, however. As for the officer who was seriously injured, he has been with San Francisco police for the past four years. We are waiting to get another update on his condition this morning. Back to you guys. Thank you, allie. The time is 7 05. Were still following all of the developing news about that fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains. New numbers have come in. The bear fire grew a little bit during the night. We know the bear fire has burned through 330 acres and is 30 contained. Christien kafton has been at the command center all morning. Crews are preparing for another busy day on the fire lines. Reporter firefighters are getting a briefing on the latest developments on the bear fire. In the meantime, we have seen an incompetent flux of firefighters and vehicles come into the location this morning. Ktvu was escorted by firefighters behind the fire lines yesterday and we got a look at the progress that crews are making and the obstacles they are facing. The fire has grown over the past 24 hours. We have containment numbers of 30 . The fire though has scorched an estimated 320 acres. In all, four structures have burned. At this point, 150 to 200 homes are still in danger. That means that Evacuation Orders for now are still in effect for the deer creek area and areas along bear creek road. The fire is still burning in steep, inaccessible terrain. Thats why the aerial support has been critical. Yesterday the water drops had to be suspended for about an hour after somebody flew a drone into the area. Crews did not want to hit the drone and cause a spark and set off a new fire. So air operations ground to a halt. The wind started picking up at the same time that the air operations were canceled. Any time that there is wind, the fire has the potential to spread. We use the helicopters and aircraft to stop the spread of the fire. Reporter crews have tried to increase the containment overnight. Santa cruz county sheriffs deputies are confirming they have arrested a Boulder Creek man accused of looting 15,000 worth of jewelry from a home inside the evacuation zone. Meanwhile, there is mixed news when it comes to the weather. There is some rain in the forecast at this point which is certainly good news. Before the rain, there is some wind in the forecast, which is bad news. That wind can push the embers and possibly feed this fire or push it into new areas. So theyre hoping that that rain does come, helps put the fire down. Theyre hoping the wind doesnt kick up too much and spread it around. Christien kafton, ktvu fox 2 news. We will move to the north bay now where crews there are making progress against wildfires. The tubbs, atlas and nuns fires are all at least 80 contained. The pocket fire is 63 contained. Now crews are turning their attention to searching the debris because some people are still missing. Officials have confirmed at least 42 people have died in the fires that started 11 days ago. Some 6800 buildings, mostly homes, have been destroyed. The Sonoma County sheriff flew over the burn zone and was stunned by what he saw. We were up in the air for a long time. And i could not believe how many houses were burned. I say that because i want people to understand that fire is doing a great job, theyre shutting this down. Its not going to go away. We will be dealing with this for months and years in the county. More than 5,000 firefighters are still on the lines in the north bay. Thats down from 11,000 late last week. Some crews have been released from those fires and sent to the bear fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The white house says President Trump has no immediate plans to come to california to see the fire devastation firsthand. The president tweeted about the California Wildfires for the first time yesterday, saying, our hearts are with all affected by the wildfires in california and thanking the First Responders and fema. President trump as you know did go to houston and puerto rico after the big hurricanes. A frightening twist to life after death. In just ten minutes, what researchers have to say about your brain and your brain function even after your body shows no signs of life. But first a warning for students at stanford. Why you might want to watch what you leave inside of your car when you park on or near the campus. Good morning. We see traffic that is still slow in many commutes. And getting slower. Although on the Richmond Bridge, traffic is moderate heading over to san rafael. Well, it took a long time but now a pattern change has emerged. The low clouds are in place. The wind is now on shore. There is drizzle. What about rain . It looks like it will be later. We will the timing update coming up. That one. This. That one. The time is 7 11. A Florida Congress woman who says President Trump made an insensitive phone call to the widow of a soldier is calling for an investigation into the circumstances of the death. She was in the car with the widow of la David Johnson on tuesday on their way to the miami airport to meet his coffin. President trump told johnsons wife, quote, he knew what he signed up for. The president denies her account of the phone call. I didnt say what the Congress Woman said. I didnt say it at all. She knows it. She is now not saying it. I did not say what she said. And i would like her to make the statement again. Congress woman wilson says that johnsons family had questions about his death. He was killed along with three other soldiers in niger in an ambush during an anti terror operation. Why were they not protected . How were they how were they able to be overrun by terrorists . When theyre there to train the army . They didnt go there to fight. This is mr. Trumps benghazi. And all of this about the widow is just a coverup. Congress woman wilson is pushing for an investigation into the ambush. No word from the pentagon on when or if that will happen. Our time is 7 13. President trump is still pushing congress to act on tax reform. The president met yesterday at the white house with members of both parties from the Senate Finance committee. Now, he wants support for his tax reform plan. Most republicans are on board. But its going to be hard to win support from the democrats who say it doesnt do enough for middle class families and will mostly help the wealthy. Ealthy. The details are gruesome. Millions of working families would see their taxes go up. The top 1 would get tax breaks worth an average of 130,000. This would be a win for the american people. If were able to do it on a bipartisan basis, it will be durable. It will be something that is sustainable like the tax reform of 1986. Well, today the u. S. Senate will vote on a budget resolution that if passed would allow republicans to pass tax reform legislation without democratic support. San ramon police are looking for a man who exposed himself to yuck girls. The man approached girls on three separate incidents. In one incident the man asked the girl to take his photo at which time he allegedly exposed himself to her. The man is described as in his late 20s to early 30, about 56, weighing 150 pounds, he has buck teeth and a scar on his cheek. He was seen driving a fourdoor is he began, gray in color. According to police, the victim said she was assaulted saturday at a cal Residence Hall on durant avenue. Investigators are looking for witnesses and say so far they do not have a description of the attacker. Well, there has been a dramatic increase in car break ins on the Stanford University campus. Since the beginning of this month, there have been 61 break ins, compared to the two or three usually reported every month. Every one involved a smashed window. What was stolen from the cars includes jewelry, laptops, ipads, cameras and purses. Campus police are warning people, dont leave valuables inside of your car. The time is 7 15. I sal, i thought about you on my way into work today. This feels about right for a thursday morning. Yeah. The commute was just about right. Not too heavy, not too light. Fridays is lighter. We dont have any light traffic unfortunately. It is all pretty busy. Were looking at a hit and run accident here at the macarthur maze. What they call the berkeley curve westbound 80. This occurred at about 6 40. Then been out there for a bit in the goer point. The flashing lights are not making it easier for the commute. It was busy even before that happened, coming around the maze. It has been busy the whole time coming down from richmond. A pretty long drive coming into the bay bridge. And even if that crash werent there, i think we would have a lot of slow traffic getting to the bay bridge. An early slow vehicle that set us off on a slow note. The problem is any sort of slow traffic on the bay bridge tends to last and make things even slower. This is a look at San Francisco and the sky way. 101 in the background and 80 in the foreground. Traffic is moderately heavy. On the nimitz freeway, an accident near de coto. This will be slow down to stevenson. Traffic in san ramon is okay. But 680 slows out of pleasanton, heading to the sunol grade. 7 17. Lets bring in steve with todays forecast. Thank you kindly, sal. Youre welcome. Low clouds came back to parts of the coast yesterday. It was pretty shallow. They have lifted big time. The bases are up and they can fly over the hills. A few breaks in there. Many reports of drizzle as well. And leading to what we think will be rain by this evening if the system continues to get the support that it is showing. Tonight raiders gamekansas city. 5 25. Mostly cloudy. Unless the system slows down, rain in the second half. Winds at 25 Miles Per Hour. Not that cold. 60s on the temps. Temperatures continue to cool off. Palo alto, stanford, 73. 73 in san jose. We get the gusts already. Altamont pass had 44 Miles Per Hour. Fairfield, travis had 32. Near merit college saw 20 Miles Per Hour. Mount tam had a gust of 25 Miles Per Hour. Some of the east bay hills about 25 to 30 Miles Per Hour. Look at the surge. I mean, the low clouds are like i havent had this kind of a push in a long time. Because of this system right here. It doesnt look very ominous. There is a lot of cold air support coming in on the back side. This will dig in. If that cold air went east instead of southeast, i would say we wont get much. But it is showing signs of digging in that will reinforce it. Quarter of an inch to a third of an inch towards lake county and northern Sonoma County. And then into mendocino, half an inch. Not as much in San Francisco, oakland, south bay peninsula. Even down to the Santa Cruz Mountains showing. 14 that would be early tomorrow morning. The humidity is way up thanks to the fog. The wind has turned more westerly or southerly for mows. They will take the higher humidity and the low cloud deck because the bases have lifted. That is a positive, along with the 40s on the temps. Low clouds are making a major surge here. 50s due to the low clouds. I doubt we cool off more than what we have seen. In San Francisco west, west, west, west, northwest. So everything has changed from the east to northeast from a couple days ago. Even in berkeley, west southwest 56 at the berkeley lab. 51 degrees. 95 humidity. Mount diablo has changed from a north wind or east wind to a west wind and 54 humidity. Lafayette, 52. By the concord pavilion, 53. West southwest at 20. Expect that to turn southwest to everybody as the system gets closer. It was beautiful yesterday. Clouds will be increasing. The wind will pick up later. 11 00 p. M. Until 11 00 a. M. Friday. Three to six inches of snow around the 6,000, 6500foot level. Most of that will be after midnight. Theres the system. A cold air support behind that enforcing it, holding the system together. It hasnt moved on to the north coast. The timing will be later. Afternoon and evening for some. By 6 00, it begins to make its move. By 8 00, starts to move south. By 10 00, it makes it down to the south bay. Look at the sierra. That is overnight. That will be much later than here. Could be unsettled weather coming in with the colder air carrying us into friday morning. 60s and 70s on the temps. Tomorrow will be even cooler. As we said, we will get the great air quality that will clean things out and warmer on the weekend. Thank you, steve.
