I know this happened during the morning commute. Im wondering how the evening commute went and if things are getting back to normal there at that busy station . For the most part, they are. It was mid afternoon when they said all the buses here at Port Authority were running back on schedule. We heard from people yearlyier in the morning earlier in the morning. Live in new york city tonight, thank you. Now to ktvu Christina Rendon how b. A. R. T. Police and others are work to go keep bay area transit safe. People may notice that officers are more visible at b. A. R. T. , muni and vta today because those agencies note the bay area is not immune to a similar attack and want riders to keep their eyes and ears open. B. A. R. T. Is a German Shepherd officer, one of many that are trained to detect explosives. We would call it a blank seerch the work of search. The work of k9 officers is crucial especially on a day like today. In response to the terror related incident, b. A. R. T. Added personnel to patrols in search of suspicious packages and people. Our team was deployed this morning including a group of officers deployed by the department of homeland security. Riders say they typically feel safe. Theres no sense to go up and let you know that, hey, they have a weapon, they have any type of bomb material at all until its too late. You know, b. A. R. T. Police here are great, but they come after something thats happened. In San Francisco, muni says officers are highly visible. The Police Department is monitoring the developments in new york city. Police tweeted theres no known threat, but theyve increased patrols at transit and tourist locations. I think one of the most powerful responses we have as a community is to not let these things deter us from our every day lives. Their main goal is to keep people safe, but they cant do it alone. This could happen here. It could happen in the next city over, the next state over, anywhere in the world. People cant be complacent. If they see something, they need to say something. We asked b. A. R. T. About the possibility of installing metal detectors at their stations. They say that those devices have been tested in other parts of the country and they are not conducive to the roughly 450,000 people that ride b. A. R. T. Every day. Theres no word tonight on when those increased patrols will end. Christina rendon reporting live for us. Thank you. Stay can ktvu for continuing coverage of this developing story.
