There have been no major issues just some slowing on 85 and a little on 87. On the peninsula we had an earlier accident in san mateo on northbound 101 which has been cleared so things are looking better today than normal. On friday we usually dont get the big backup. The bay bridge toll plaza is backed up to the macarthur maze though. Lets get back to the desk. A large Apartment Fire in san jose forcing families to run for their lives. It was overnight at an Apartment Building on rancho drive near capital expressway in southcentral san jose. Flames raced from the front of the building to the back. A dangerous situation for people who live there and firefighters. Leigh martinez is live at the scene to look at the damage that has been done. Reporter Officials Say that it was a high risk fire. They believe it started on the first floor or second floor apartment on this side of the building. If you look at the lamp post, the lamp post melted so that shows you the heat coming from the fire. San jose Officials Say the call came in just after midnight when crews found the eight unit Apartment Building on fire and feared people were trapped inside. The fire was upgraded to three alarm and firefighters went into rescue mode. Good samaritans worked to get people out before the crews could even arrive. I walked out and saw the fire so i grabbed the kid and told him to get out. I said get out here. So i was in the bed and then i heard people screaming and running through the hallway. So at first i thought it was like a fight but then my uncle came and told me there was a fire going on. So we just ran outside and when we were outside we saw the huge flames and it was pretty close so we felt the heat. Reporter 16 people are now displaced including five children. Luckily, nobody was injured. Firefighters knocked down the fire by 1 30 this morning. Officials believe the fire started in the first or second floor unit in the front left of the building but the origin and cause is under investigation. We spoke with some families who say they have been set up in a hotel with the help of the red cross and some of the other Apartment Buildings, the Structural Integrity has collapsed and nobody is allowed to go into the front. The other units that are still intact, some of those families were allowed to collect belongings. A very difficult morning thank you. Authorities are racing against time in Santa Barbara county searching for people who may be trapped by mudslides. At least 17 people were killed and 43 others still listed as missing. They are having trouble figuring out where they are and locating their own houses. Personal belongings are being found far from where they should be. A new proposal could change San FranciscoPolice Body Camera policies. The examiner is reporting that police chief bill scott is proposing an amendment. Police officers under investigation for killing a suspect can view any body camera of the incident before talking to investigators. Chief scott wants to change the policy to only allow officers to see their own body camera video so they will not be influenced by other angles. Chief scott says the change will help to protect the integrity of Police Shooting investigations. The Trump Administration has canceled a National Database of addiction and Mental Health programs. The National Registry of evidencebased programs and practices had been around since 1997 to connect people to Mental Health programs in their communities. Police say their parents are not cooperating with the investigation. Last week the entire family was reported missing. The parents and three children were found on tuesday living in their car. 20 month old twins have not been found. Aaron weddles and his wife princess canez walker were arrested on charges of felony child abuse and child endangerment. They were in court yesterday on outstanding warrants. Both parents have a history of arrest. A friend of Aaron Weddles who was at the hearing called him a good man. Basically i came here to support him to see what the case was about. Where are the babies . I dont know. I dont have no idea. They used to come by my house. He is a good man. Police have not been able to find any photos of the children to help with the search. If you have any information please call police. Sex workers in San Francisco who report Violent Crimes wont be arrested for prostitution or minor drug offenses. Police and the da office says the new policy will help encourage sex workers to cooperate with law enforcement. Workers who report Violent Crimes will be given information about community programs. Many sex workers are being exploited but do not get help because they are scared to be arrested. The u. S. Postal service in oakland says 40 of its trucks have been covered with graffiti in the past couple of months. The graffiti outside of their postal facility on 13th street increased after the parking lot across the street closed and was sold to a developer. Now they have to park the mail trucks on the street during the night. Vandalizing a mail truck is a federal crime and the penalty is up to 10 years in prison. There is a 10,000 reward for anyone who provides information leading to an arrest. Chicago will be the first city in the country to test a new device that will tell officers if drivers were texting during an accident. The device is called a text analyzer and can be connected to a cell phone and then would scan the phone for calls emails and text sent when the driver was operating the vehicle. City Council Voted to allow the Police Department to study the device. A number of states are considering equipping officials with the device.
