One man died after an overnight fire. Sally is live at the scene with what we know so far. Reporter good morning. This is a residential neighborhood. There was an overnight fire. Firefighters got the call just before 2 am. Firefighters are still here putting out hotspots. I spoke with the fire chief, bill kelly. What was the scene like at that point . Firefighters got here about five minutes after being dispatched. They found fire on both floors of a townhome. They fought the fire and then searched for victims. There was one man trapped inside . Yes. We brought him out to the street. He was in cardiac arrest. We started cpr. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Reporter was anyone else injured . No. We did a complete search of the home and adjoining units. Everybody got out. Many found shelter in neighbors or families homes. The red cross was called out but were not utilized. People found their own shelter. Four people were displaced. Reporter any idea how this started . No. The fire marshals are on the scene. It is too dangerous to get them close to the scene. They should be able to look at this in about an hour. Reporter how long will you be out here putting out hotspots . They should be out here through the morning. There are access issues. That was a problem. It was complicated also because of the rescue. Reporter was that hard because the way these four plexus are located . Yes. Plus the construction style itself. We will take a look at that to see what caused the fire. We have experienced that before. We called and mutual aid from surrounding cities. I am appreciative of their help. At least four units were impacted. Firefighters will be out here keeping an eye on things and putting out hotspots. Looks like the area is still shut down, the streets . Reporter yes. It is not a major thoroughfare. This is a residential area. The closest cross street is loman. There are pg e trucks out here and firefighter vehicles out here as well for the next couple of hours or so. They are continuing their investigation. This morning, police are looking for someone who shot and killed two cousins. Police got a call for our gunshot at 7 30 p. M. A man and woman were shot in their home. Both have since died. Police believe this could be gang related. Their names are not being released. A woman was arrested for assaulting a Police Officer during a big fight at a restaurant in emeryville. That broke out at 4 am yesterday at dennys. The fight involved 10 to 15 people. At least one of those people had a baseball bat. At 35yearold woman was arrested on suspicion of battery on a Police Officer and resisting a Police Officer. The officer was not injured. President trumps immigration plan continues to have controversy. He is in turn proposing a path to citizenship for dreamers. Some say the money would be better spent addressing other needs. We have one to two fires a day and when you respond together and you put your lives on the line, you do have to surround yourself with experts. And for us the expert in gas and electric is pg e. We run about 2,500 2,800 fire calls a year and on almost every one of those calls pg e is responding to that call as well. And so when we show up to a fire and pg e shows up with us it makes a tremendous team during a moment of crisis. I rely on them, the firefighters in this department rely on them, and so we have to practice safety everyday. Utilizing pg es talent and expertise in that area trains our firefighters on the gas or electric aspect of a fire and when we have an emergency situation we are going to be much more skilled and prepared to mitigate that emergency for all concerned. We want to go back to breaking news in santa clara. One man died after an overnight fire. Four people are now in need of temporary housing. Reporter firefighters got the call about this fire just before 2 am. When they arrived they found for of four plex a four plex involved in fire. They are keeping an eye on this and putting out hotspots. Reporter all of the residents got out safely except for one man who had to be rescued from the fire. They rushed into the building to find a man already in cardiac arrest. There were a group of firefighters who carried him out. They performed cpr and sent him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead. This is what we live for, to rescue people from fires and make sure people are safe. It was a great effort but the outcome was unfortunate. His identity has not been revealed. No firefighters were injured. The fire chief tells us this was a challenging fire because of the construction of the four plex. The fire did get into the attic. Four residents were displaced. Some neighboring residents had to be evacuated as a precaution. They are expected to be allowed to go back to their homes this morning. Seven people and an unconscious baby have been rescued from a life raft that has been in the Pacific Ocean for four days. There were 50 people on board the ferry and then started to sink. A new zealand search crew located the raft. It was a wooden dinghy. They dropped food and water and then a fishing boat picked up survivors. Rescuers say they dont know why they were not alerted sooner. The seven survivors used a tarp to shade themselves from the sun. There has been an increase in shark attacks. Nine attacks last year. There were only five shark attacks in 2016. Most probably involved great whites going after kayakers. Experts say they are surprised there are not more shark attacks. A mother and son are charged with running a prostitution ring. A 59yearold woman and her 37 yearold son were arrested. They are accused of running this ring. Neighbors complained about constant visits by men. Police met a 19yearold prostitute in an online ad. Human skeletal remains were discovered yesterday in clementine. This is a popular area for hikers. The remains were found in brush in an area between trails. Investigators dont know how the person died and it will take time to determine exactly how long the remains have been there. We dont know if it was foul play or Natural Causes. Things will be investigated. Deputies say they found some clothing nearby but not enough to know if it was a man or woman. The pathologist will work to identify the remains and determine a cause of death. The founder of ikea has a died. He was just 17 years old when he formed the company. The teenager sold everything from watches to christmas cards from a shed on his family farm in sweden. The name was derived from the initials of his name and where his family lived.
