Today the team officially introduced of their franchise quarterback after making him the highest paid player in the nfl. Sports director mark ibanez joins us. When you think of the past era like a year ago at this time, before they had actually hired john lynch and kyle shanahan, i mean, there have been great moments. Things turned around. I was trying to think of one player who came in and made such an incredible difference so fast. And you would have to say Jimmy Garoppolo at the top or near the top of that list. Today, the crown put on him. He is the franchise quarterback. He is the highest paid player in the nfl. And well see how long that lasts. But 137 million with about 90 million of that guaranteed in town today and some of the players on hand for the press Conference Today along with Jimmy Garoppolos family who came in from illinois to see the proud moment for their son and he talked about some of the moments leading up to this momentous occasion that swayed him into staying here long term. I wouldnt say it was one thing in particular. I think, you know, like i said from the first day i got here my teammates, the Coaching Staff were very accepting of me and thats kind of rare in an nfl locker room. Theres a lot of different types of personalities in there. They accepted me so quickly it made my life a lot easier so i think just as the season went on, i mean, it was just it was an easy decision for me. We have one goal in mind to get to the super bowl and win it. We want a parade like philly and thats our goal. To me, i mean, coming in we knew he had talent on the field, great athlete. But i think what overwhelmed people and maybe nobody was expecting it with the 49er organization, the intangibles the ability to lead and the way his players around him particularly on offense gravitate towards him and you can tell immediately they sincerely like the guy. And theres a lot theres a lot to like. He is selfeffacing and easy going reminding me of joe montana who i always called a jeans and tshirt kind of guy that everybody related to and i see the same thing, not to say that he is there yet as far as all the success that joe had. But same kind of attitude. A winner, a leader, but easy going and not always taking himself so seriously. Le 49ers are now becoming a destination for other players. You said that earlier. I remember a couple of years ago nobody wanted to play for the warriors and look where they are now. Do you see that . Is that where were headed with the 49ers . I think definitely. They had all the cap space in the world a couple of years ago and nobody came here. They were always being criticized. They dont spend the money. You cant spend money if nobody wants to come here and i think thats the difference now. I think everybody around the league i was watching the nfl Network Today and several former players and current players expressed that this is now a place where they can see the writing on the wall. Crew its all about victory. Go ahead and dream, 49er fans. Jimmy garoppolo against tom brady. [ laughter ] the key piece in place. Well see the building continue. They have to do some free agent stuff in the next couple of months. Well see what they build around him. Coming up, a major winter storm pounding the midwest.
