Tom baker reports the airport is banning sales of single use plastic Water Bottles. You wont be able to buy a bottle of water unless that bottle is made of something other than disposable plastic. Passengers are banned from bringing Water Bottles of any kind. This supports our sustainability goal. You can buy water at sfo but in a recyclable aluminum bottle or can, glass bottle or compostable package. They have instructed cafes, restaurants to provide only compostable straws, dishes, and condiments in panels. This is the next city step in diverting items that would inform into landfills. As we see here at the recycling plant. Theres a problem. Plastic bottles multiply quicker than rabbits, so much so they are hard to get rid of because the market isnt very good any more. How much are we talking about, 500 billion every year worldwide, 4 million at sfo. Less than 25 of plastic bottles are recycled. Im proud of the city of San Francisco and california for being aware and taking action to save our planet. We know about plastic polluting the sea, and i think its a waste of oil, oil is needed to create pharmaceuticals and important stuff. Flavored waters and soda provided by Beverage Companies are exempt canned from the rule, at le, at least for now. Would you know what to do during a shooting . Well talk about the weekend forecast coming up. The gilroy shooting reinforces in knowing what to do in an emergency. Stop the bleeding offers training on how to help the wounded until paramedics arrive. Bill harris is correcter of first care provider. These are simple techniques. Were teaching every day people that they are capable of doing more than using the cell phone to call 911 and time equals life. First responders are making the best effort to get to you. But you can bleed to death in 3 to 5 minutes and the response is 7 to 8 minute range. Its knowledge and its equipment based. Having a turn quit on hand or information on how to stop bleeding and getting out of the mindset of worrying about making something worse. I think theres a fear that we dont know what to do or we will do something wrong and make the situation worse. Tell me about the techniques you are teaching people. I think that fear is really, its not the publics fault, its medicine, we tell you not to make it worse and call the expert, we were wrong, thats part of why we started the first care. Apply a tourniquet, its simple. Finding an artery, the way they taught people, we discovered that theres a better way to do business, were working to get the information out to the public. Get the equipment and teach them the new things. People are having a good time and its not difficult. Were teaching it to kids. What if people dont have the kits you were showing, what if they dont have the equipment. It seems you can use things you have on the body, someone was using a belt as a tourniquet. Thats the common go to thing, we want you to do something. A belt typically makes a poor tourniquet. We want you to apply pressure. Think about your arm as a hose. People know if theres a injury by the hand put pressure on that. Theres no sense in fishing around when its connected higher up. Take your hand or knee and apply pressure on the biceps portion of the arm and you can stop the blood flow. In the leg bleed drop the knee in the groin area and putting body weight will slow down blood flow and buy the victims time. I have to end the conversation there, really important. Thank you very much. Were going to get back to the News Conference in gilroy. Bill thank you so much. Lets listen to the latest on the investigation into what happened in gilroy on sunday. It came to my attention this afternoon that the Coroners Office released cause and manner of death of the suspect in this case. When they do that, it doesnt mean they have the whole report done, they draw a conclusion in their preliminary determination of the cause and manner of death is a self inflicted gunshot wound. I wanted to address that briefly of the so when the shooting occurred and our officers ran to the area and engaged the suspect, the suspect immediately changed his fire from the crowd toward the officers, and engaging in gunfire the officers fired multiple rounds at the suspect. The suspect was hit multiple times which put him down. It appears the ruling of the cause and manner of death that once he was down he shot himself. It sounds like that round was to the head. I dont think that changes much of anything, but if someone was looking for the cause of manner they may ask questions and i wanted to make sure the information remained consistent. The Coroners Office will release the full report, exactly where he was hit, how many times he was hit. But that takes a length of time before they release. That once that gets released that will be public and well release that to you as well. Thats the gist of the information i want to put out before the weekend. Anybody have questions . Did the officers see the gunman turn and shoot himself in the head . You know i dont know, i dont believe they did. I just dont know. He may have been down on the ground when it occurred. Until we get the full report. Early indications is they didnt realize it happened. Were listening to the Gilroy Police chief talking about the coroners report saying the gunman at the garlic festival shot himself. Right when the shooting happened three officers were firing on him and that may be when the gunman used the weapon to shoot himself. The coroner confirming it was consistent with suicide. The chief emphasizing that in his mind the officers were heroes, they confronted the gunman. The suspect was hit multiple times, he couldnt say the exact number of times that the gunman was shot, and says it was in fact a selfinflicted gun shot wound that led to his death. You cant underscore that might not have happened if the officers didnt rush and try to put him down. They did encounter him, they did put him down it was a selfinflicted bullet that caused him to pass away. The officers did what they were supposed to do. The coroner tells us that were still looking at everything, comprising the full autopsy to determine the number of gunshot wounds that the gunman suffered. How many times he was fired at and whether they hit. The gunman was shot multiple times. It was a selfinflicted wound that led to his death. Well have more on the story coming up. Well look for your show. The topic or the issue is one of the many this week. This week. A president trumps threat to hit 300 billion imports with a 10 tariff overshadows a positive report. Ve report. Its been the worst week for the markets this year, as fox news tells us the president got support for his get tough approach from a top democrat. Because of the get tough on china wall street fell. President trump announcing a trade deal with the European Union an agreement that increases how much beef could be sold in the eu mark. It came a day after the president threw Global Financial market into a tailspin. I dont think the tariffs have had an impact. China is a tougher position. China telling a station, slapping on tariffs is not a constructive way to solve trade frictions. America has lost trillions of dollars and millions of jobs because china has not played fair. Being tough on china is the right way to be. The tariff costing china the position being the top trading partner. The point is its not going to kick in until september, if it does, hopefully enough action can be down to get them to the negotiating table to start september with a trade deal and that could turn the economy around. The latest job report is a signal that the u. S. Economy is down. Last month 164,000 jobs were added and the unemployment held steady. Lets get perspective. Join administration said china is not buying enough. This is interesting. Tariffs go back to the boston tea party. We have two superpowers, weve had tariffs on china, china has tariffs on us. It affects the consumers and manufactures and business. On the consumer side it has not affected us this month. Four straight months of increased retail sales. Were buying imported washers and driers, thats today. Lets talk about this, does the deal to sell american beef is that a shot toward china where america can sell beef to eu. Its happening where the main manufacturing in china looking at other parts of the country. Its not easy, theres a cost, when theres a threat there has to be a reaction. U. S. Moyers, added jobs in july but at a slower rate. Tied to the trade war or what is it tied to. 105 months of straight job growth. If we do 130,000 that keeps us at Unemployment Rate at 3. 7. Thats good. The trend hasnt been as good as the prior trend. Whats going to happen. If theres tariffs and they are big and if theres a deadlock in fighting and the tariffs last 3 to 4 months it could slow down the economy, were moving into an election year, we have to play nice and make the economy really good. If you read art of the deal, the economy has to continue to grow and we have a Good Foundation to do that. Federal reserve cut Interest Rates, this is normally something you use during the 2008 r
