The number of coronavirus cases continues to climb worldwide and here in the bay area, todays the last flight from San Francisco to mainland china. Theres also a flight that will be coming in from china a little bit later on this evening just after 6 00. Now after that, bay area travelers will have to wait at least six weeks to take a direct flight from sfo to china. But, there are other ways you can get there through connecting flights. Today, china did announce another spike in coronavirus cases. They reported 5,000 new cases raising the number worldwide to 65,000. Experts however believe that the sharp rise does not represent a major surge in the outbreak. They say this is just because of a change in how china is diagnosing cases. These numbers went up primarily because there are differences in case ascertainment criteria. Not because theres an actual increase in the number of cases. The cdc is confirming a 15th case of the coronavirus in the United States. A patient who is recently evacuated from china and has been in federal quarantine in texas. The virus has also spread to more than two dozen other countries. The cdc is working on a vaccine but says that might not be available until at least the end of the year. All right. Thank you. On wednesday, more parents of one of the victims filed a lawsuit against the fbi accusing the agency of failing to respond to tips about the shooter. Marcus pardoneau and Richard Torres were wanted in the east bay last month. Police arrested pardoneau yesterday morning after a long standoff in san jose. Now both men are accused in the shooting death of 26year old richard nuwin. Investigators havent told us the evidence that connects them to the killer. A horse trainer at Golden Gate Fields pam. This is a horse trainer will be arraigned this morning on Sexual Assault charges. Investigators say 28yearold ari herbertson made a woman at the racetrack more than a year ago. Herbertson offered to drive her home. The next morning she woke up inside her car and realized she had been sexually assaulted. Investigators say dna evidence led to that arrest. San Francisco Police say a man is in custody following a daytime stabbing in a downtown area. That happened shortly after 1 30 yesterday afternoon. Police say the attacker stabbed two men. Investigators say 62yearold Steven Kernen of San Francisco was driving a prius that hit a man in the crosswalk. Then the car hit two other people getting off an mu neeuchld bus. Police say Surveillance Video from several surveillance cameras can give them information in this case. We want to gather as much information so we can present this to the District Attorneys office. Police say the driver at first sped away from the scene. A third was treated there at the scene. Authorities later ruled out alcohol or drugs as being a factor in the collision. Time is now 5 06. Vandals shattered the win doses of near ly a dozen vehicles. Their cars were parked in an unsecured area that is accessible to the public. Authorities believe the suspects were driving a white suv. He was a mayor of a small town in the mid western United States which to me is a real plus, but mostly, what was really coming through was what a capable person he is. I started looking at the polls and not seeing anybody that i felt like could defeat trump and that was incredibly terrifying honestly to me. Doug, its rare for a member of the Trump Administration to criticize the president. Democrats say that william barr was trying to get a federal judge to go easy on a friend of the president s. He has the right to intervene but did not in this case. There hasnt been much daylight between President Trump and his attorney general william barr until now. I have a problem with some of the tweets. Barr criticized his boss. He has been convicted of lying to congress and obstructing the russia investigation. Barr says he made his own decision to recommend a shorter sentence. Pressure from the president had nothing to do with it. Im going to do what i think is right. I cannot do my job here at the department with constant background commentary. While some democrats have said that barr could be impeached, House Speaker nancy pelosi suggested otherwise. That doesnt mean were going to spend all of our time going after every lie that the administration henchmen make. The white house brushed aside barrs criticism. Maybe the president should listen to the attorney general. At the very least, democrats are going to push for more investigations. Democrats are set to testify on capitol hill next month. The latest climate report says temperatures were more than two Degrees Higher than the 20th century average. And last months temperature broke the old records set four years ago. The year 2020 now on track to be one of the hottest years since the government started keeping records in 1880. Also Scientists Say the past several weeks of dry weather weve had in california is pushing some parts of the state back into a drought. The latest Drought Monitor map shows almost half of californias considered abnormally dry. Those are the areas you see in the yellow. The tan area is a classified as a moderate drought. You see them right in the middle. Thats exactly what we have been worried about with no rain in sight. Back over so sal. Today Airline Workers are planning to hold a demonstration blocking traffic at sfo and other airports around the country. The demonstration will take place at 3 30 this afternoon until 6 00 tonight. The state Supreme Court says apple has to pay its Apple Store Employees for the time they have to wait and go through a security check. Apple managers check their employees making sure they dont steal anything when their shift is over. The new court rules covers all employees. In the lawsuit, apples ceo tim cook said he didnt know about that policy. No comment from apple on yesterdays ruling a new effort is under way to limit the number of Homeless Navigation Centers in San Francisco and where they can be built. Someone was found dead in one of the restrooms at the center. Theyre now seeing needles and new homeless camps in their neighborhoods. Advocates say its a city wide problem. We think putting one in every Supervisor City is ugly. If theyre upset that its a problem, good. I hope that motivates them to do more to solve it. Former San Francisco mayoral candidate Richie Greenburg offered to limit Navigation Centers in the city including limiting their life span to two years. A recent survey by the San Francisco chamber of commerce shows 71 of residents say homelessness is the citys top issue compared to 33 who said the cost of rent is the biggest challenge. 89 also said homelessness is getting worse. 2 3 said they support building a Navigation Center or shelter in their neighborhood. Bay area mayors want more state funding to deal with the homeless crisis. Oakland mayor libby shaff talked about how the state could work with cities and counties better. When the governor was giving these fema trailers just it feels like a few weeks ago, the state worked very well with us and our county to really guide the county in being able to draw down funding so that they can provide the service providers. Last month Governor Newsom money for rent subsidies. Affordable housing and residential treatment centers. Members of the moms for housing will not face charges. Misty cross and salani king were arrested last month. Sheriffs deputies were trying to remove them from the house. A gofundme account to pay their bail reached nearly 43,000 before it was disabled. Time is 5 48. The board that oversees the Oakland Police department wants tougher rules on military style equipment. Right now theres no established policy on when Police Officers can use tear gas and deploy armored vehicles. That proposal would require the Police Department to have rules on when to use that equipment and report every year on how it is used. Look like an Occupying Army in a neighborhood, its just overkill. Police information obtained by two investigates shows Oakland Police deployed the bear cat twice as often as its used in San Francisco. Oakland police has defended using the bear cats saying it protects officers above and beyond patrol cars. The Oakland City Council is expected to vote on these reform ideas in the next few months.
