At zuckerberg San Francisco general hospital, there are 48 isolation rooms that will be able to house patients that require separation due to the infection of the coronavirus. They included one room specifically for a child and another for an infant. Even if we do have high numbers, we dont expect that everyone would be terribly sick and need hospital care. Still, dr. Lisa winston, an epidemiologist with the hospital says theres a plan in place that includes the isolation rooms. She showed us his room with two doors, one leading to an area where the medical staff can put on the necessary personal protective gear, and the second where the patient is kept. Theres monitor equipment, connection for gas and other gases, special lighting. We have daily planning, we have folks from Hospital Administration and infection control, our emergency department, and other departments. So far no cases have been treated here, but should there be a large outbreak where there are more patients than the hospital has room for, dr. Winston says they have done what she describes as emergency search planning for Disaster Response and there will be coordination with local and state public officials. Our plan to use bases in the hospital in different ways than we normally would. Triage and caring for the sickest patients at the hospital level, whether there are people who might be well enough that they can be cared for at home.
