An accused shoplifter died during a fight with an employee. It happened at the lucky supermarket just before 10 00 last night. Our Crime Reporter is here with more on what happened. Reporter what we know is that two men got in a fight and the suspect ended up dead. We dont know why he died and if this was a case of self defense. It started with a theft on this store. Police say an employee knows the man trying notices the man trying to steal meat behind the butcher shop. The employee confronted the suspect shoplifter and they began fighting with each other. Some kind of a physical disturbance. Reporter have some point the suspect stopped breathing. They found one suspect unconscious with no pulse. The officers began doing cpr. Reporter the thief was 34 and from antioch. He is probably trying to feed his family. You never know. Reporter the employee was hurt and taken to the hospital. Police are investigating. It is unclear if the suspect died from injuries from the fight or had a medical emergency. Many supermarkets instruct their employees not to confront shoplifters. They say it is not worth the risk or the liability. A spokesman would not address the issue, but said the safety of our boys and customers is a top priority. We are working with the Police Department on their ongoing investigation. Shoppers we spoke to had mixed reaction. From a security standpoint i would say, dude, go, dont come back. Reporter the oak grove School District put out a statement saying they dont tolerate conduct that compromises a childs safety. The victim in this case says that she would like them to take action. The woman apparently angry that she was standing too close and a yogurt land intentionally coughed on her oneyearold son. It happened so fast that she took three or four steps as shes taking off the mask and cough in my sons face three times really hard. The woman is allegedly is will teacher. They say the priority is the children and clearly they are not showing that it is. Reporter San Jose Police are investigating this and say no arrests have been made. The School District says that their employee is off work for the moment and is not dealing with any children.
