I know, it seemed almost 3 months ago we are getting word about the canceling of fireworks. Every city just fell in line saying theres no big public other, theres no big fireworks display. These days, a port visit with my parents is like the fourth of july. It is interesting how the smaller social gatherings are just like gold to us these days. That is true and i canceled plans. It says, since the global coronavirus pandemic hits our community, the department has worked tirelessly to implement measures to protect staff, the incarcerated population, and the community at large. In person visits have also been suspended and tents have been set up in the prison yard at san quentin to help socially distance inmates. I checked on the numbers this morning. So far, 1080 prisoners in san quentin tested positive for covid19 as well as 100 to employees. There are more than 4000 cases across the states prison system. The outbreak at san quentin started after 100 inmates are transferred there at the cannes California Institute for men. That was exactly one month ago. Since then, number of cases at san quentin has a bloated and just a matter of weeks. And there 3500 inmates have been paroled early but some inmates simply arent ready to come out. They dont have a place to stay. They dont have a place to go. They dont have plans in place.
