The latest round of clashes escalated after President Trump sent federal agents to portland to protect federal property and stem violence. The move only seems to have heightened tensions. A federal judge denied an order signed by the state of oregon to limit the federal agents power. Custom and Border Protection patrol agents have also been sent to seattle, but the seattle mayor said she has not been told day wont engage protesters like they have in portland. The agents will reportedly be on standby in the area to protect federal property and help federal Law Enforcement officials. Now right now its still about 700 miles southeast of one of the islands there, packing 115 mile per hour winds, which makes it a category 3 hurricane. Its expected to reach hawaii by sunday as a category 1 storm. Fire crews quickly got a brush fire under control in the east bay. This was a view from our roof cam, which shows smoke billowing over interstate 580 in richmond. This started near the point isabel Regional Park this afternoon. Interstate 580 was briefly shut down while fire crews handled that fire. No word yet on a cause. A fire at a homeless camp in antioch burned about a half acre before crews got that under control this morning. Sky fox was over the area as crews were mopping up. This all started around 10 15 morning. Contra costa fire said there were reports of explosions heard in that area, but so far they say the cause is under investigation. As schools prepare to reopen, San Francisco is working on a plan to protect the districts most vulnerable students. Christian tells us the district just released an academic plan to ensure that no student falls behind. Reporter with instruction set to get underway in just three weeks, San Francisco unified schools has finalized its plans for Distance Learning. As expected, instruction will begin with Distance Learning. The strict said it has learned a lot after having to improvise last spring and has take an lot of feedback from families and will roll back into the plan. One of the top concerns, families say they want to see more time for online interactions, not just pulling assignments down from a website. So not only do the teachers, the students want to connect more with their teachers, but they also wanted opportunities to connect with even other. They wanted opportunities to build relationships. Wanted to make sure that was happening. We totally understand that. Reporter San Francisco is also rolling out details on its plans to provide 40 hubs throughout the city to make sure that as many as 6,000 students in traditionally underserved communities arent getting left behind. We know that our most highest need children struggles the most. Reporter the hubs will be located in nonprofit libraries and Park Properties around San Francisco, and will bring resources directly to the kids who need them the most. That means having an academic support staff that is just, you know, supporting the kids to open up their zooms, checking in their homework, and then provides a healthy meal. And then providing enrichment and wrap around support. The citys recreation and Parks Department says with a public park within a 10minute walk of any home in the city, it is ready to step up in an unprecedented way. They are planning this very closely together, and we will probably be providing. Half of all of the Community Learning hub sights. San francisco schools have posted all of the details on their Distance Learning plan and what the school year is going to look like as students go back to school in august. That plan now on their website. Parents can check it out, and they can also weigh in at the next School Board Meeting, which, again, before the Academic Year begins. That next School Board Meeting is tuesday july 28th. Governor newsom allowing School Districts to apply for waivers so Elementary Schools can do in Person Learning, even if the county is still on the statements watch list. Its about partnerships that need to be initiated with requesting a waiver with labor, parents, Community Based organizations, to allow for in person instruction, again for Elementary Schools specifically, in partnership with legal Health Officials, and so School Districts can work with their local Health Departments to go through that waiver process. The governor said School Districts will have to work with parents and teachers unions to come up with a plan. The cdc has released new guidelines for reopening schools, and critics say theyre short on details. As ray bong reports, its clear that not everyone is on the same page with sending students back to class. Reporter new cdc guidance out on schools offers information on how to keep children and staff off and what to do if someone inside tests positive. It describes the importance of in person instruction, and how schools help develop the whole child. But ultimately, the guidance is designed for individual administrators to make the decision. You have to look it a not just by individual states, but individual municipalities. Reporter it suggests cohorting, the same students and staff are kept together for a predetermined period of time, and only interact with people in that cohort. We certainly know from other studies that children under 10 do get infected. Its just unclear how rapidly they spread the virus. So that could be the case this weekend as we head into sunday. Temperatures here in the bay area will trending up, as we head into your saturday forecast. Well still have some fog for the morning hours, clearing to near the coast line into the afternoon. Pretty much the same story into sunday, and sunday could be just a little bit warm paper lot to track in the tropics. Roll storm hannah and hurricane douglas. Hurricane douglas a category 3 storm. Theres the satellite showing you that well defined eye in the pacific. This is a concern as we head toward the weekend for the hawaiian islands. In fact, right now thats a projected path that could be weakening to a category one storm. Well come closer. Could be approaching oahu. That would be as we head into sunday. So this track might deviate a bit, but thats what were watching for right now. A weakening storm, possibly a category 1 or Tropical Storm. And then there is Tropical Storm hannah right now packing winds of 50 miles an hour approaching the texas coastline. Could be making landfall this weekend just to the south of corpus christi, and that could be later in the day saturday, and also into sunday. So we keep an eye on those two symptoms this weekend. Back here across northern california, we still have the fog hanging out coastside. The fog is out there near the coast, pushing locally into the bay. When its foggy, thats where you have the cooler temperatures. Temperatures near the coastline in the 50s, as you work your way inland. Concord right now, 7 degrees. San jose checking in at 70. Overnight lows starting out your saturday morning in the 50s across methodist of the bay area. The fog near the coast and near portions of the bay. Cooler pattern this week, as this area of low pressure has been settling in, but this area of High Pressure wants to rebuild, and this will be the source of the warming.
