As we know, joe biden is susceptible to gaffes and sometimes makes errors that are later picked apart. What he has to do is make a clear, concise speech to the American People about why he believes he is the right candidate for president. He also has to work to try to build that collision and speak to all the voters in the party. We are talking from progressives to moderates to republicans who say that they will vote for trump again. Now to the wildfires encircling the bay area tonight racing through dry forests and into rural neighborhoods. Dozens of fires, sparked by lightning, are emerging now. Within 255,000 acres have burned now. Thousands of people are under evacuation warnings. At least hundred five structures have been destroyed and 70 more damaged. Five people have been injured. The wildfires are producing so much smoke it can be seen from space. Nasa released this image today. The smoke is covering much of central and northern california. The smoke is also contributed to hazy skies around the bay area and a spare the air alert is an effective sunday. Cruiser trying to stop the flames from three major fire complexes, the scu lightning complex involves three fires in southern Alameda County and santa clara county. That czu fire involves about two dozen fires. And the lnu is made up of seven fires. Those abbreviations are for the cal fire unit santa clara, santa cruz and lnu stands for lake napa unit. That napa fire has spread into Solano County destroying dozens of homes just outside of vacaville. This evening the fire jumped interstate 80 between fairfield and vacaville and there are evacuation orders in that area, including the Travis Air Force base. Ktvus emberley joins us now from the Evacuation Center with the very latest. Reporter we are at Joseph Nelson given the center, one of three Evacuation Centers in suisun city. Hundreds are here, most are older folks evacuated from fairfield. This is a very bad day. The weather was bad reporter once there was a bad day as flames spread from napa to the hills above vacaville, destroying multiple homes, forcing people in fairfield to evacuate, many went to fairfield high school, an Evacuation Center. This is the real deal where tomorrow i could come home and everything is gone. I saw the airplane dropping the pile of dirt and water. Im hoping they can save our homes. Reporter among the evacuated residents were older folks who live in Paradise Valley estates, a retirement community. I am very grateful somebody is taking care of me. Reporter this 95yearold is with her son, but says her 96yearold husband was located in a different building for medical treatment and taken to another Evacuation Center. She hopes to be reunited with him soon. There son says his parents are resilient. Dad fought in three wars, including world war ii as a fighter pilot. This is nothing compared to what they have already gone through. Its amazing. Reporter some evacuated residents left with only their medication and the clothes on their backs. My daughter just opened the door and i could smell it. I have asthma. Reporter flames burning along interstate 80 in fairfield cause the Highway Patrol to shut it down in both directions. We found motorists sitting in gridlock concerned about safety. Stick at i dont know how close that smoke is or that fire, but ive never been stuck in a situation like that. Reporter back at fairfield height evacuees sat in the dark after the school lost power. They were taken alternate sites. Despite the uncertainty, one 87 yearold tells me shes more concerned about the safety of firefighters. What im going through and all of these people are going through is mild compared to what they are going through. Reporter just a short while ago they were reunited at the Joseph Nelson community center. It is scheduled to be opened as an Evacuation Center at least through saturday. Behind me, as you can see, a live picture, folks have set up these makeshift beds. As for interstate 80 the Highway Patrol reopened the roadway in both directions. Its going to be a long night for so many people, thank you very much. The extreme heat over the past six days is making the firefight that much more difficult for firefighters. Our chief meteorologist is here with a look at the current conditions. Are firefighters going to get any help from the weather tonight and tomorrow . Reporter it is a double edged sword. They are getting some help, its cooling off. Humidities are kind of thick, dropped a little bit but are coming back with an ocean breeze. The ocean breeze is the thing that could good be a problem as winds fire up tomorrow afternoon and a little bit tonight. Will see more of a northwesterly flow, normally not a big fire deal accept there is a lot berning already. That can cause problems. We will watch that. There is a red flag warning in effect for Solano County and lake county through tomorrow morning and that she get dropped pretty quickly. I want to show you this year, this is the smoke at 8 00 a. M. A helicopter pilot was killed today when a shopper crashed during a Firefighting Mission in fresno county. The helicopter went down at about 10 00 this morning while dropping on the hills fire approximately 11 miles south of bowling airport. The crash caused a new brushfire, no word yet on the cause. The nts is leading the investigation. More live coverage as dozens of fires burning in the bay area. After the break, we hear from some of the thousands of people who have been ordered to evacuate in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Also, wildfires are a threat for people in the north bay. And all of the smoke from the fires is creating unhealthy air quality and now the coronavirus is complicating the response from Health Officials. More now on the wildfires burning around the bay area. In the Santa Cruz Mountains almost 2 dozen fires have burned more than 25,000 acres. At this point there is only 0 containment. These are being called the czu august lightning complex fires. They are burning in both san mateo and santa cruz counties where thousands are under evacuation orders. At least 20 structures of been destroyed so far. Reporter yes, those structures that burned it down our singlefamily homes. Cal fire says they are just weakening to assess the damage. The winds are now moving south, driving flames closer to towns like bonnie june and Boulder Creek and Santa Cruz County and san mateo county. The fire is threatening the communities of montana and pescadero. Over there i think that we are watching the place that my family has loved and helped to take care of our whole life. Reporter the family among the evacuees of the raging fire named after the cal fire san Mateo Santa Cruz unit fighting the blaze. The fire is divided into the northern zone, threatening communities of the honda and pescadero and san mateo county. The fire is west of empire hills road, infecting the town of bonnie june and moving toward older creek, ben loman and felton. With the weather conditions we are experiencing now and we are going to be seeing, not only in the next 74 hours, that makes it very direct and real. The other challenges where the fire is burning is heavily forested with redwoods and remotes. This is the real deal when it comes to an accessible. Reporter she is hopeful she has a home to return to after her family evacuated. She has learned from past wildfires and jurisdictions to heed orders. We have never had anything like this here. Its been happening in california for quite some time. We are all safe and our animals are safe and thats as good as it can get right now. Reporter three firefighters had minor injuries battling this fire. There are new evacuation orders tonight, areas of alber road, hubbard gulch, fanny great in davenport in Santa Cruz County. Evacuation centers are set up at the Santa Cruz County fairgrounds and Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium as well as huffman bay high school. Another fire that started in the east bay is spreading to five counties, burning 102,000 acres. The scu lightning complex fire is made up of canyon zone, calaveras his own and dear zone fires. Its a cluster of 20 wildfires in santa clara, alameda, contra costa, san joaquin and stanislaus counties. Containment is only on 5 tonight, more than 1400 structures are threatenedorders areas. With fires burning in all directions the air quality is out unhealthy levels around the bay area. I want to show you a map showing just how widespread all of that smoke is. You can see it is especially poor in the south bay. Ktvus rob roth spoke to Health Officials and air quality experts who say the effects of our unhealthy air are only being complicated by the pandemic. Reporter these hazy skies are hovering over the entire bay area. Cars have ash on them, even near richmond, miles from any wildfires. I was trying to water my garden and there was ash falling on me. You never get used to this. Reporter as airquality alerts go, this is anything but normal. The bay area Quality Management district wednesday extended the spare the air alert at least until sunday and Health Alerts have gone out that the air quality is rated unhealthy. The entire bay area is affected by smoke right now. There are active wildfires in eight of the nine bay area counties. Reporter the only county not experiencing wildfires in San Francisco, but city leaders announced it will be providing masks to the homeless and offered advice to everyone else. People should be cautious when they choose to go outside. Wear a mask and always be aware of whether you are having any challenges breathing. Reporter doctors say it can take a few days before people start complaining of health problems, perhaps weeks. The doctors say this unhealthy air is magnified because it is happening to her and during an intense heat wave and in the middle of the pandemic. Standard Health Messages about unhealthy air are complicated by covid. We are also asking people to keep windows closed, but we know that recycled air is what we are not recommending in a covert environment when there are people together. So we have many factors coming together that makes this a more unique situation than any other wildfire we have had in recent history. Reporter he advises people to stay indoors as much as they can. People need to use common sense in terms of not moving about, not coming out unnecessarily. Reporter how long this will last, no one can really say. It all depends on the wildfires. We want to bring back our chief meteorologist here. The pork airquality is expected to last until sunday. I went out in some a car tonight it was covered with ash. You could really smell the smoke in the air. Thats right. Folks with lung issues or respiratory issues, this has a huge impact, the particulate matter, when you can see the ash, the tape read that in. Cluster is much smaller particular in there that is causing folks discomfort. This will be around for a while, it just is. Will get a little bit of a break the next couple of days, but it will still be around. I think today was one of the worst days, tomorrow will be a little bit better. The winds in the fire zones are relatively mild, but we did have a report of some gusts around vacaville and Pleasant Valley road with wind gusts up to 25 and 30 miles an hour. Right now in fairfield it is eight miles an hour. The winds are not really howling , but within the fire the air rises and the Straight Line when comes in with the service. The fire does create its own winds. Humidities are pretty high and temperatures are coming down. A better day for fighting fires tomorrow. When we come back we will have the fiveday forecast.
