Senator harris criticized President Trump for putting the health of his supporters at risk by packing them together in those large rallies. Now President Trump is also in arizona today, he is holding two separate rallies. In bull head city, he accused democrats of overreacting to the coronavirus pandemic. Under bidens cruel and senseless lockdowns, countless americans will die, and you know this, from suicide, drugs, deferred medical care. There are so many different things. The cure cannot be worse than the problem. During a Campaign Event in greensboro, north carolina, today, Vice President mike pence is presented to the podium. The lit its polls give joe biden a slight advantage over President Trump in the tar heel state. Here in california, large numbers of people have already cast their ballots. More than 7. 6 Million People in our state have already voted. Thats about 52 of the total ballots that were cast in our state for the 2016 president ial election. So far roughly 2. 3 million more votes have been cast by democrats than republicans. Tom tom vacar spoke with voters earlier today about the different ways people are voting. Reporter yeah, and that vote is really important. Im glad i voted. So should you. This is likely to be one of the nations most critically contested elections in all of american history, pure and simple. We met some alameda voters today who deeply believe that voting is a sacred and threatened right. I think Voter Suppression is a big problem in our country, and i think everybody should have their vote counted. Its absolutely extremely important to make sure that you get your volunteers heard and one person does make a difference. I want everybody to vote, everybody to count, everybody to say what they need to say. Reporter today Young Malcolm helped his mom put her ballot in the box. She said that i could do it because she knew that i was responsible to do it. Reporter the california secretary of States Office lists each and everyone one of the 334 early voting sites in the nine bay area counties by town, address such as a school or a library, and the directions to get there. We watched the news, and they said to always vote. Your vote counts. Reporter if you want immediate answers or voter help straight from the secretary of States Office, good luck. I called up as a voter, not as a reporter, and they offered a call back. That call back never came after hours and hours. Nor did the Alameda CountyRegistrars Office return might have reporters phone call for an interview. Obviously they are swamped, as well. Tom, i just want to reit rate one point that you made, even if you have failed to register to vote thus far, you dial dew still have an opportunity to make your voice heards the election. Yeah, some polling places will actually have that ability, but like the Registrars Office or a Voting Center will allow you to register that day. Here is the difference. The difference youre casting a provisional ballot, so once they check it out, then they will count that, but if it isnt proper, its a provisional ballot that will be disregarded, but if youre voting legitimately and honestlily, your vote will count, too. Turning now to wall street. It was not a good day. Stocks tumbled amid worries that the worsening pandemic here in the u. S. , as well as in europe will lead to more restrictions on businesses and drag down the economy. The dow dropped more than 900 points, 943 points. The nasdaq lost 426, and the s p finished the day down 119 points. Joining us to talk more about what we saw today on wall street is financial analyst James Mcbride of the mcbride group. Both the dow and the s p, james, suffered their worst day off since june 11th, early on in this outbreak. What do you believe was the main driver today . Is it this fear of renewed lockdowns . It sure is, heather, the increasing in covid19 infections both here and in europe, and the possible of further lock town is exactly what is driving this economy down. You know, this selloff actually started yesterday in europe after the folks that run france and germany both said they are going to increase their lockdowns, and that just translated to the United States this morning. So theres no question about itself that the number one cause of this selloff, and its been quite a selloff, we have lost almost 2,000 points on the dow in just one week, so that was directly related to increase in covid19 infections. But its also related to the elections, which you were just referring to in the previous story, and also the failure of congress to enact stimulus legislation. Its just uv believable that they didnt responsible to the pain that is out there in our society from big to small companies. Yeah, very disappointing for so many people. James, when you talk about the fact that here you have coronavirus cases increasing, no stimulus, it really is setting up a very bad combination for investors. Well, thats right. And its also setting up a very bad situation for folks that are in business. You know, this pandemic is an equal opportunity destroyer. It doesnt matter how small the business is, fit just your local restaurant, or how big the business is, whether its a multinational like boeing or exxon mobil, everybody is hurting. Boeing announced today theyre going to lay off another 11,000 people between now and the end of the year, and as ktvu has done a terrific job of showing, its affecting Small Businesses in our local communities every day, and its making it harder and harder for businesses to survive. Yeah, as you mentioned, we are seeing it every day here in the bay area. So james, back to today, what companies or industries were hardest hit. Well, its all of them. 11 secretary herself in s p 500, all 11 were negative today. It was hard to find a bright spot. There are companies that have done okay in the situation, the socalled stayathome stock like zoomer approximately heton, and the Big Five Tech Companies have done quite well. They have done well. But the rest of the stock market, the other, like, 495 stocks in the s p 500, have had a very tough go of it, and they are either flat to negative over about the last year. So this destroys everybody, the good, the bad, and the indifferent, im afraid to say. Yeah. Well have to wait and see what happens tomorrow. Hopefully its a much better day. James mcbride, always appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you, heather. Ucsf Medical Center has announced a coronavirus outbreak. Two hospital patients who shared the same room, along with three employees who cared for them somewhere now tested positive for the virus within the past week at the parnacis campus. Those patients are showing no symptoms, while the companies are suffering from mild symptoms. 28 more employees are now under quarantine and 15 patients are in isolation. Well, 38 states including california are now seeing increases in the number of covid19 cases. New numbers that were released today show california has now had more than 908,000 cases. This is all since the pandemic began. With more than 4500 new confirmed cases yesterday. And more than 17,000 people with the coronavirus have now died in our state, including 43 deaths that were reported in the last 24 hours. Meantime, several bay area counties could see an uptick in business. Jesse gary tells us the counties are easing restrictions after advancing in the states reopening system. Reporter wednesday sees the probable dawning of more Business Opportunities along the peninsula. This as san mateo county, along with contra costa, marin, and santa cruz counties, moves into the states orange tear. I think its great. I think its a great to the area. Its a day to celebrate. That being said, its not a day to be complacent. Reporter county supervisor david remember this four counties once had a substantial risk of covid infections. Covid tracking showed each had between 4 and 7 new covid19 cases each day per 100,000 people, but Officials Say social distancing, the wearing of masks and gloves, and limiting endure gatherings, has reduced the risk to moderate. The counties now have no more than 1 to 3 new daily covid19 cases pertion,000 people. The upgrade in tier ranking means Retail Businesses can operate at full capacity, instead of 50 . Attainin restaurants can have either 50 occupancy, or 200 people, whichever is less. Being able to open up a little bit more for these Small Businesses is going to provide relief. Even so, some residents say theyre uneasy resuming life as normal. I dont feel safe about going inside a restaurant and eating indoors. What has changed . Its still in our droplets, and if im eating indoors with somebody else and their mask is down, i still think the danger is there. Reporter slight relief for some counties is juxtaposed with the possibility of more pain for another. Tuesday the Solano CountyHealth Officer warned his county could sink to the purple tier as soon as next week. I think, unfortunately, given what weve been experiencing, if the case rate is reported today, tuesday, as too high, it will to be a high next week as well. Fourth District Supervisor john vaska said its becoming trouble some out there. There are businesses that if we go back in the purple will not remain open. For several weeks Solano County has reported upwards of 28 new daily covid cases, but that number has ballooned to 40, potentially putting the county back into the purple tier. Officials say part of the problem, some residents not taking seriously covid restrictions. Coming up here on the 4, a risky water rescue in Sonoma County.
