Im happy to tell you the bay bridge doesnt have a big backup right now. Its looking pretty good now. We were looking for a crash on that san mateo bridge and it does look like they found it, but it hasnt affected the bridge traffic just yet in a major way. Were looking at some of these commutes and looking at it. Theres a little bit of a backup near the high rise thats about all dumbarton bridge looks good. No problems on 880 or on the peninsula. Definitely looking like a light day at 710. Lets go back to the desk. Thanks sal. Big win for Driverless Cars. This is going to be over. My students are going to come back. Sadly, the students never came back. The numbers the owner saw prior to the covid. At the same time, their monthly mortgage payments have nearly doubled. It saddens me. It hurts because we put so many hours into our training and developing and these arts. The owners say they need 88,000 to stop the foreclosure. Thats scheduled in about two weeks, august the 24th. They also need 250,000 to pay off a loan. And state regulators, though, said no to the plan because they say it wouldnt benefit the general public. Developers say they hope the agencies will change their mind after learning more about the proposals so called public facing aspects in the years after the start of the covid 19 pandemic, most students went back to class, but not all of them. A stanford study shows that the rate of student absences in the 2018 2019 school year was more than 14. Some of the bay areas largest districts experienced those high rates of absenteeism. Oakland unified had one of the highest rates at 47 for the 20 2122 school year. Thats an increase of 13 from before the pandemic. Other large School Districts saw similar increases as for the highest overall in the bay area, vallejo city topped at 57, a 29 increase from the year before. You can see on your screen how other large districts here in the bay area saw big increases in student absences as well. For the first time in nearly half a century, russia has launched a spacecraft and its on its way to the moon. Theyre looking to become the first country to successfully land at the moons south pole. Its all part of a Mission Study the lunar surface and search for resources. Places like water only three governments have had successful moon landings. Soviet union, china and, of course, back in 1969, the United States. 717 lets go from the skies to the roads and see how traffic is looking at their cell. You know, it looks okay. Ive been looking at a couple of things. First of all, if youre driving to San Francisco or driving across any bay area bridge, it is going to be lightly traveled today. Seems pretty good when it comes to that. There is a crash on the san mateo bridge westbound 92. As you head out to the high rise. Theres a little bit of slow traffic now beginning to appear. You can see it here on our camera. So since the dumbarton bridge and the bay bridge are doing so well, you might want to just think about that instead. South bay commute has been quiet. Its nice getting over to sunnyvale, cupertino and palo alto. Seven over 18. Lets bring steve back with todays weather. Thank you, kind sir. Yes, sir. All right. We have the trifecta. Whats that . Hurricane dora formed in the eastern pacific. Now in the central pacific. And tonight, will cross the international dateline. Going into the western pacific and become a typhoon. This is the first system to do this since 1994. So it started right there off central america. We went across went south of the Hawaiian Islands, still a hurricane, but its going to move tonight across the international dateline, still be a hurricane, then turn tropical. But still itll be a name. Typhoon so congrats to dora for maintaining its strength and identity all the way across the pacific. We have a low thats off the Central California coast that tapped into a former tropical system. Eugene, if your name is eugene, your tropical moisture is over us right now. And you can see on the visible satellite, a lot of that moisture continues to drift across from east to west and underneath that, from west to east, you have a low cloud deck. So the combination of the two and even a little bit of activity around san jose, south. Now, a lot of remember the lower layers of the atmosphere are dry. So it would take more than just probably this to generate some rain, but its certainly possible here from about south peninsula, south san jose, fremont, south towards the Santa Clara Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains down towards gilroy, hollister, and maybe even down to monterey. Thats where the bulk of this has been has been some thunderstorm activity up in the mountains. Also rotating back around. But its close enough for us that its in the forecast for today. A little breezy out towards travis west, southwest gusting to 28mph. So a few things going on here, including much warmer lows due to the cloud cover. So a little bit higher humidity, maybe a muggy feel here if you get the combination of the after the fog burns off, you get the clouds and some sun, those tropical clouds will add a little bit of humidity to the mix. 40s in the mountains. Now and its going to get warmer because the cloud cover is beginning to move up into the sierra. So you can see some of that cloud cover drifting across. Any activity should be south about Fremont South as the way it kind of looks. You can see that most of it, though, is staying to the as far as any measurable amounts. Heavier amounts will be south. But for us its close that well mention it to tropical moisture continues to move in. Itll be with us not only today, but i think off and on. Occasionally youll get these bands going through into the weekend. A bigger band to me looks tont tha again. Big fog bank, mild to warm lows, lots of drizzle out there. Fog sun. More, more sun. North more clouds south. Kind of muggy. Will mention a few showers as well. South so temperatures 6070s and 80s. It does look like the inland temps want to warm up. But if theres cloud cover, theyll have a hard time doing it. But well ease into that with some inland temps bumping
