Now in the books. And the group had to targets and i refuse to be a passive by stander sitting in the white house like the hollowed out husk of a current president. We have. And you know who else is missing in action . Donald trump is missing in action. Well talk with a political analyst about who had the most substantive statement. Live from jack london square. This is mornings on two, the night. Welcome to mornings on two. The nine. Today is thursday , september 28th. As you look live across the oakland estuary where you see the fog is still pretty thick out there right now because normally you might be able to make out the skyline of San Francisco there in the distance and its pretty faded right now because all that fog in the air. We will check in with the weather in just a little bit to find out when that fog could finally burn off. All right. 2 in 3 millennials say it is in possible to disconnect from work. One poll surveyed 2000 adults and found that this generation believes it has too many distractions to be able to switch off each day. Millennials are known for being the always on generation. They frequently check emails outside of work hours, clear their inboxes before relaxing, and tend to work through lunch. This generation also admits to checking their phones first thing in the morning and average just 90 minutes of free time daily. Well, i guess im a millennial. Welcome to the nine and i sounds a lot like that to me because i do have a hard time relaxing. If my inbox is too full. Right. You know, and nothings important, even if nothing important. And its filled with all kinds of stuff. And im afraid i might miss an important email, which does happen right . So i have to make sure that im like, i got to mark that one. You know, let me delete this other ones around it and make sure thats good. And so, you know, like i was away, like away from my cell phone for a few hours, like when i was out of town in the middle of nowhere where theres no reception and it felt really good. I really didnt miss it because you couldnt check it. Because i couldnt check it. Yeah, because i didnt. I had. There was no cell service. Right. So there was nothing that i wasnt self control. It wasnt. It wasnt a control. Yeah. It was just. It was forced upon me. So i had to deal with the situation and i was fine. I didnt freak out. So i think its just a subject of us having the little handheld computer that we call phone. Yeah, because you can do everything on it, right . And its always with us. So if youre like, lets say you go get an oil change and youre sitting around, either you could scroll on instagram, um, which is fine, but if youre male, if your work male is on your phone, then you might know, okay, im sitting here, i might just get it done. Its outside of work hours, but that means when i get to work, those emails are taken care of. Do you ever leave the house without your phone . No. Never . No. Even like, just going to go to trader joes to get, like, milk and eggs . No. Isnt that funny . Well, you dont like my car. I need my. I need my phone for my car now. Oh, really . Yeah. I cant. Not. My car is fine. I cant not get into my car without my phone. Okay. Okay so, okay, let me ask. Do you ever leave the house without your phone . Occasionally i do. But im like, sweetheart, im leaving. Im going to trader joes for milk and eggs. I should be back. I mean, like, im going on some, like, arctic expedition, right . So i do every now and then. But i feel naked when i do that. Yeah anywho, well talk about this a lot. Yeah, exactly. Its just one of those things for sure. For sure. Buying flip phones now just so you can get away from the regular. I have seen that some of the millennials do that. All right. Lets focus on whats happening here in the city to restaurants. I know youve probably been to. They are historic there right there along the waterfront. But San Francisco says that they owe months of back rent and the port has sent them a notice as ktvu. Allie rasmus is live to explain. This is seen as another setback for a part of the city that is still struggling to recover after the pandemic. Allie yeah, we are at Fishermans Wharf this morning where 9 00 things just started to wake up here. Weve seen more tourists walking through. In fact, a couple of tourists from europe who just sat down to have breakfast here. Theres quite a few restaurants in this area. But in this stretch, theres only two that are open right now. This similar to nicks lighthouse is getting set up, but beyond this, at the end of the block, aliotos restaurant that shut down last year and now fishermans grotto, the two story restaurant at the end of this block, may have to shut down as well. It got an eviction notice, according to the San Francisco business times, the port of San Francisco , which owns and manages this property, says the fishermans grotto restaurant owes more than 300,000 in unpaid rent. Another restaurant around the corner called tarantinos also got an eviction notice for owing more than 140,000 in unpaid rent. And that restaurants been closed for a while. Theres graffiti on the windows and the metal bars blocking the front door. According to the San Francisco business times, though, both restaurants are owned by the same person who also owns tommys joint here in the city fishermans grotto. And tarantinos have a long history here. Fishermans grotto opened back in 1935. Tarantinos about ten years after that. Both places still have 13 years left on the 66 year long leases they signed with the port of San Francisco back in 1972. So if both places are evicted and shut down, it would leave at least two vacant spaces on this block of Fishermans Wharf. Now, we have tried contacting the port of San Francisco to talk and ask if theres any discussions underway to try and work out some sort of arrangement to keep at least fishermans grotto open. And that is the only one of the two we just mentioned that is still operating. In fact, you can find a reservation today on open table and other sites, but we havent heard back from them. Weve also reached out to the owner of the restaurant to find out what sort of plans are in the works to try and keep it open. Live in San Francisco, ali rasmus, ktvu fox two news. Ali, thank you. Well stay in the city here as Property Owners are listening to the citys request to convert Antioch Office space into Affordable Housing. City leaders say that eight Office Building owner responded to their inquiries about transforming their properties to apartments or condos. Five of them are in the greater mid Market Civic Center neighborhoods tour. The financial district ones near yerba buena. The plan would create about 1100 units if all eight properties were converted. New this morning, theres a heavy Police Presence at an arco station on telegraph and alcatraz avenue in oakland. Authorities say there was a burglary just before 5 a. M. A neighbor told ktvu photographer there she heard about half a dozen gunshots. We have not confirmed this information, but a bullet hole could be seen in one of the glass windows. Police say they havent found any gunshot victims yet. And were also following the situation on the dumbarton bridge. Just got off the phone with chp. Eastbound lanes remain closed because of Early Morning vehicle collisions. And the most serious involved a crash with a white suv and a silver pickup truck. An occupant of one of the vehicles was ejected onto the roadway. No word yet on that victims condition. The chp tells us all vehicles have been cleared, but the cleanup crews might still get up there to remove the gravel, which may have caused that crash. This crash had shut down both directions of the bridge for a bit, but westbound lanes reopened at about 6 a. M. Four people, including a teenager, are now in custody in connection to several robberies throughout oakland and berkeley. They were arrested hours after several holdups near the cal campus. Berkeley Police Sergeant spotted the suspects in a stolen kia sorento and chased after them. The pursuit ended in east oakland, near high street and carrington, where the four people were arrested. The adults have been charged in the past, ranging from car theft to stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry from the stoneridge mall in pleasanton. Im not like that surprised that theres like, robberies happening and stuff. Like i feel like we hear stories like all the time. It is frightening, especially like as like a woman and like that i do walk kind of like alone. Well, police say they recovered several guns during the arrests. The Alameda County District Attorney is reviewing this case before formal charges are filed. More bay area cities are turning to cameras and license plate readers to help fight crime. Piedmont has had license plate readers for years and says the technology has led to about 27 arrests every year. There are now plans to install them in other cities. One of them is oakland, which is experiencing a sharp increase in crime. We know that sometimes were looking for that needle in the haystack. So thats exactly what the alpr technology is there to do to be a force multiplier to help us identify those needle in a haystack and deal with them. Some experts cast doubt on the efficacy of the cameras and say they often dont help solve crimes. A 2010 study by George Mason University found while license plate readers increase the likelihood of finding stolen cars, they dont lead to an increase in arrests. The study also concluded that cameras are more effective when many of them are installed and you have to factor in installation costs, maintenance costs. This stuffs not cheap. And so we have to ask ourselves, do we want to divest our Police Resources into tools that may or may not help . We have to be willing to try Something Different. We have to be willing to give technology a chance. Just months ago, Oakland Police shut off their license plate readers and dozens of cruisers and acknowledged last year they got no investigative leads from them. But they did help them recover 34 cars. Oakland Council Member Kevin Jenkins says hes pushing for the license plate readers and an increase in staffing, hoping those two things together will help reduce crime. Some gas prices around the bay are jumping dramatically. In fact, they jumped dramatically overnight. Todays average price in San Francisco is 6. 04. Yesterday was 581 a gallon. Thats a 22 cent increase overnight in oakland, prices jumped 0. 19 overnight to 5. 90. And gas prices in san jose jumped 0. 19 to 588. Were nearing 6 a gallon now for regular gallon of gas, similar to levels we saw a year ago. All right. Lets go over to Steve Paulson now for a look at the forecast. I see a sun behind you there, steve. Gas prices never dropped 0. 20 overnight. Do they . No, no. Its always up 0. 20. It is a nice forecast today. Then tomorrow well start to see some changes here. We had a little bit of fog coming back. I think most of that is retreating already. So itll be nice to see a little haze maybe in there mixed in. But if you enjoyed yesterday, youll like today. Even though yesterday was clear on the coast, thats not the case so far today. But i think were seeing more sunshine. Already had some 40s now its 50s and 60s. The city and Half Moon Bay are both. At 61. Santa rosa recovered from 49. Now 60, 62 mountain view, they were down to 51. Menlo park was at 49. Now 52 and 66 already in brentwood. Fairfield 62, still winning out. Theres a little northerly breeze in some of the higher elevations. So that usually translates into by the time it gets to the surface, a little bit warmer pattern, but its not lasting. Thats been the its been that way since may , either to and out or three and out. We have not had any extended heat. I dont see anything anytime soon, at least not yet. This low is saying, you know what, im on my way. Itll be here starting friday, friday night into saturday for sure. And temperatures goes. Itll be a rapid drop here on the temps will drop a good 15 degrees might even be up or 60s for some on saturday for highs thatll be in the 80s today today nice to mild to warm i think a breeze will pick up late today though as that system inches closer then this low is coming right over us on saturday morning alone. Its more west so it picks up a little more moisture. And the mere fact that its kind of a cold core system, the lapse rates alone will generate some rain. So rain will return here. The wind will pick up. This does not look like a you know, a howling wind producer, but well see some pretty good blustery conditions on the coast. And i think in some of the higher elevations, rainfall a couple one hundredths to a 10th of an inch, maybe a quarter to a third would probably be the extent of it for us, although there will be heavier amounts in the mountains. South lake tahoe could be up to around a half inch of rain around tahoe. Thats kind of the projection there. Also in the mother lode could be some thunderstorm activity. You can watch the evolution of this low as it begins to drop in right there. Its right over us on saturday morning. I mean, you know, and again, its picked up a little bit of moisture. So it has more to work with now versus going over, say, nevada or so. But this will be south of us by probably sunday morning. So the 49 hour forecast looks to be improving there. I think itll be partly cloudy, maybe breezy to windy. And then well have to keep an eye and see if we get a little offshore breeze starting next wednesday or thursday. But for saturday, saturday night, early sunday, maybe some snow above the 8000 foot levels, the way it looks for right now or again, doesnt look like a lot, but there could be a little bit there 70s 80s through the interior 60s 70s, closer to the bay. We are looking for a cooling pattern friday cloudy on saturday and then windy on sunday. You guys. Thank you steve. We are another day closer to a possible Government Shutdown. Next here on the nine. The main targets of the debate were President Biden and former president donald trump. Trump is the gop front runner, but he once again skipped that debate. So joining us now for more insight is david lev so much fos today. Of course. All right. So you watched the debate last night. It was it was interesting. But but you know what this debate is really about for all these seven candidates is really trying to crack and become a real contender for to donald trump, who is garnering so much of the support right now. So it really is a point of all of this, right . Hes mr. Trump is looks like 40 points ahead, at least in national surveys. I think one thing that will be interesting is to see whether any of them make any move in iowa or in new hampshire, because i think what really will matter is can either any of them get some momentum as we get to those primaries . Excuse me, because thats more important than the national numbers. But you know, what are they trying to accomplish . Are they if somebody is running for a second, then its hard to see how theyve really differentiated themselves. Theyve really gotten some traction. And are they running for Vice President . Are they running for mr. Trumps cabinet . Are they running for punditry spots on Different Networks . Its hard to tell, but it sure doesnt look like theyre running for president. Yeah because at this particular point , when you watch the debate last night and you see that nothing has really changed in the polls except for who did it, who did better last night than in the last debate. Right. Which coming out right now is perhaps nikki haley and policy. I mean, shes really the only one i heard last night addressed very specific topics, policy issues during that debate. Right. Right. She seemed to have done the best job of doing that because there was a lot of people talking over each other. It was i mean, it was chaotic. It was one of the more chaotic debates ive seen. Right. The moderators did not do a very good job of controlling the participants. One person who i thought actually did a really fine job is that moderator from univision. Yes, i
