Bright. Well, its clear. So easy to see. Yes, but fog is getting its act together rapidly here as well get a pretty good cooldown here and the wind will pick up. Not too much. Right now, its rather calm, but its going to develop here as this system to the north begins to drop in. The wind will pick up low clouds will move in and increasing clouds by this evening. So temperatures coming down today 60s and 70s. All right, sal here, 4 00. Man, hes had a busy week. Lets hope todays friday light. I really hope so, too. Steve right now we are starting off that way. We dont see a lot going on thankfully right now. Traffic at the bay bridge looks very good with no major issues. Sometimes on fridays we do get breaks and thats exactly what were hoping for. This is a look at the san mateo bridge that looks very nice. And the east bay commute is off to a good start. Almost everywhere you look, there are some minor crashes that are not causing any big delays. 401. Lets get back to the headlines. Thank you, sal. Former Oakland Police chief laurent armstrong was fired seven months ago, but still has not been replaced. The Police Commission met at city hall to discuss who should be the Police Departments next chief. And ktvu zac sos was at that meeting and tells us what was said. I believe that he should be reinstated. And what happened with with chief armstrong showed that he doesnt support police accountability. One by one, oaklanders stepping up to the mic at thursdays Police Commission town hall weighing in on the february firing of chief laurent armstrong and who theyd like to see take the helm of the department next. Among them, gail harbin and her husband, jerry. They were wrong for firing chief armstrong in the beginning. They did not allow due process before they fired him and they should reinstate him because it was very premature. Leronne armstrong will be back. Armstrongs ouster by oakland mayor xiang tao in february criticizing the former chiefs handling of miskolc backed investigations involving his officers. But that decision coming under intense scrutiny after an appeal by armstrong cleared him of any wrongdoing. So far, mayor tao has defended her decision, a position backed by jenny ziliak in the audience. We elected this mayor and shes being undermined by the same group of people as in that room. Every chance that they get at. And their job is the Police Commission is not to undermine the mayor, the Police Commission had been expected to put forward a list of potential candidates for the chief job at thursdays meeting. But in protest of their leadership, several members chose not to show up preventing a quorum. I would say that given the circumstances and that he was doing an excellent job, that and that he was fired wrongfully, that he should be entitled to his job. But it neet and hencethat is preventing us m voting. So as you heard there, the Commission Chair hoping that during the next meeting they will have enough members show up that they can finally move this process forward, finally submit a list of candidate s for this chief vacancy to the mayor. That meeting scheduled to take place on october 12th in oakland, zac sos. Ktvu. Fox two news. All right, zach, thank you. Time is now 403. We have more details now about several arrests made in oakland this week as part of the police cease fire operation. And new charges from the District Attorney. Oakland police say 15 people were detained, ten people were arrested and a dozen guns were seized in the 100 block of west grand avenue. It was a response to a string of gang related armed crimes in the Alameda County District Attorneys Office has filed charges against all nine adults. In the case of one minor charge, others are still pending. Supporters of a plan to recall Alameda County District Attorney pamela price says the process has now moved one step closer from removing moving her from office. Now the group called save alameda for everyone says the county registrar of voters gave them approval to start collecting signatures on recall petitions. They now have 160 days to collect 73,000 valid voter signatures in order to qualify for the ballot. Price ran for office on promises of criminal justice reform, but supporters of the recall say her policies have led to even more crime. Time is now 405. An investigation has begun in San Francisco to find out why a trench collapsed, killing a utility worker. It happened at oak and divisadero streets. The unidentified worker became trapped under eight feet of dirt and concrete. He worked for the company. Darcy and hardy, Construction Contractor on a major sewer Rehabilitation Project for two hours. The rescue operation went on as firefighters secured the area to prevent any further collapse inside that trench. But when the crews finally reached that trapped worker, he was already dead. We want to make sure that the workers perform safely and are safe. We dont know what caused this trench collapse at this point. Thats something that were looking at to find out what happened, do whatever we can to make sure nothing like this happens again. Now, an investigation by San Francisco police and cal osha are among the agencies looking for answers. It now looks more likely that the federal government will shut down this weekend with congress at a standstill. House republicans met until late last night with House Speaker Kevin Mccarthy trying to convince a group of house conservatives to pass a stopgap measure to keep the government open. But he is running into resistance. We have to break the fever. This town has been governing by continuing resolution since the mid 90s. So this is this is just a total disaster for the American People. And were listless at the moment. Now, federal buildings will likely close their doors after the weekend. 2 million federal employees would go without paychecks, as would service members, although in the past theyve always been repaid. Once an agreement is reached. The last time this happened was in 2018 and the shutdown lasted for about a month. Well one group of federal employees would be significantly impacted if the government shuts down firefighters with the Us Forest Service would have to work without pay. Plus, they could lose up to 50 of their salary if congress doesnt take action to extend the pay raise. The Biden Administration gave them several years ago. Ktvu Jana Katsuyama talked to firefighters and tells us and she has their reaction. Wildland firefighters with the Us Forest Service work in the most remote regions of the country battling flames but not as visible as cal fire crews in the public eye. They see a lot of red trucks on the news and for us that work for the Forest Service, theres also green ones up there in the mountains. You just dont see us because were were hidden amongst the trees. Jacob kennedy is based in california, one of more than 11,000 federal Fire Fighters nationwide who play a Critical Role in keeping wildland fires under control. There smoke jumpers, they jump out of airplanes to get to remote areas of fire. Theres hotshot crews, which is made up of 25 personnel that walk into a fire. Theres engine module. Stephen gutierrez is a spokesman with the National Federation of federal employees, which represents federal firefighters. He says they are facing a big political battle over their paychecks. Most of the public doesnt know this, but before President Biden came into place , most wildland firefighters got paid less than 15 an hour. President biden issued an executive order bumping their pay up to 15 an hour. But so far, congress has not passed a bipartisan wildland firefighter paycheck protection act that would make temporary pay increases permanent. The funding runs out september 30th, just as a potential Government Shutdown threatens to force firefighters to work without pay for a lot of wildland firefighters. Right now, theyre living paycheck to paycheck. Union leaders have been rallying in washington, d. C. Urging House Speaker Kevin Mccarthy to pass the bill before any shutdown on thursday, they met with Senate Majority leader chuck schumer, who supports the bill. They have equal amounts of republicans and democrats. We have that support now. We just need to get it across the line. Some federal firefighters say if the bill does not pass, they could lose up to 1,500 a month and that could prompt some of them to leave the Forest Service altogether and look for other jobs in the newsroom. Jana katsuyama ktvu fox two news. All right, jana, thank you. Time is 409. Lets talk about friday weather. Any concerns about rain coming to the bay area . Well, not today, but tomorrow morning. Yes but today its going to be about cooler conditions, thats for sure. We start off clear, though, and then this system will sweep in. That will ramp up the fog bank. Thatll increase the onshore breeze and then well cloud it up by tonight. This system coming in tomorrow, i think 105 to a 10th of an inch should cover it. Forecast models have trended a little more south with it than north, but the wind will be a bigger factor. And snow level in the sierra will be around 8000ft. Warm day yesterday, but not today. Temps arrows are all down. These are the forecast highs. Thats thursday. I have to go in and fix everything. 76, 77, 66, 75 on the forecast highs 50s on the temps right now or 60s, but mainly 50s on the temps. A couple of low 60s or mid mid 50s for most here. But to the north 50s and 60s as well. Rohnert parks 52, san anselmo is in there. Fairfax says. Hey, were 51 Point Reyes Station a cool 5030s in the mountains, including alturas, susanville, truckee, south, lake tahoe and also mammoth, all in there. This system that will sweep in. So morning sun, morning, sun, and then well see clouds rolling in in the afternoon as that system drops in tonight into saturday. So a cooler pattern begins today. Again this will all start to drop in by later this afternoon. Tonight, rainfall now trimmed it back for santa rosa, but increased it say for Half Moon Bay fremont. So well see itll be hit and miss on some but well get some out of this. The sierra though looks to be taking more out towards the Sacramento Valley as well more so than us. So therell be some high elevation snow. So sun then clouds cooler breezy 6070s today. Yeah. Grab me and then took my pole from me. An oakland homeowner was robbed. Ill tell you why she says the criminals took a lot more than her personal belongings and up for grabs. 150 million in state funding. Old School Busses with electric ones. California agencies are offering those districts nearly a half 1 million in the statewide campaign to go electric. The money would go towards making the transition from diesel School Busses to electric ones as a more environmentally friendly decision. We need to stop burning fossil fuels as fast as we can in any way that we can. And this is this is a way to do that, especially if the busses are at the end of their lives anyway. When kids are exposed to traffic related air pollution, it can have Significant Health impacts. There are already 560 electric School Busses taking children to class in cities all across california. For our time now, 414 officials at bard say itll be easier to take bikes on the bart trains now. The bart board says bikes are no longer banned from escalators. Bart director Rebecca Saltzman says there are some other policy changes, including allowing bikes on all trains except in that first train car or on crowded train cars and riders can now secure their bikes instead of physically holding them. The new rules take effect january 1st. Caltrans is preparing to shut down southbound 101 in redwood city over the weekend. The closure starts at 10 00 tonight from breton avenue to whipple avenue. Crews will work to replace the Cordilleras Creek bridge. Alternate routes include 280 and 92 and highway 84. The freeway scheduled to reopen monday morning at 5 00. So all weekend, the northbound lanes will be closed the weekend of october 14th. More roadwork is scheduled to shut down westbound lanes on interstate 80 in Contra Costa County. Again, this weekend. This time, its not a full closure. Two lanes will be closed over night between crockett and hercules as part of an ongoing paving project. At the other two lanes will be open, but caltrans warns that could mean delays. All right. Our time is 416, would you believe gas prices went up again overnight and governor gavin newsom again is calling for an investigate nation into the higher gas prices here in california. The prices in San Francisco, oakland and san jose all jumped at least 0. 05. Triple a says the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded is 6. 08, up over 0. 75 from just a month ago. The National Average has basically remained the same the past month. Unlike california. The governor says his administration is checking into this discrepancy. People are off, as am i, about being ripped off by the oil companies. And thats all it is. Theyre ripping you off because they can rip you off. There may be relief on the way. The bay area will be switching to the winter blend of gasoline tomorrow. That should bring down the prices slightly. But some parts of california wont change until the end of october. Governor newsom wants regulators to switch over to the entire state early. And republican lawmakers are calling for a suspension of the gas tax to deal with these high gas prices. Our time now, 417 Florida Governor and republican president ial candidate ron desantis made a Campaign Fundraising stop in salinas. He was greeted by protesters who say desantis is not welcome in salinas. He has written anti immigration, anti lgbtq anti abortion laws that has put our peoples lives in danger. The invitation to the event shows the hosts are some of the biggest employers and Agricultural Producers in the salinas valley. Oh, theres a big need for dialog and im grateful that desantis came. Governor desantis came here and spoke to us. Now, earlier this week, the Salinas City Council passed a resolution denouncing desantis visit. House republicans are moving forward with an impeachment inquiry that they say will show President Biden used his office to benefit his family. At the first hearing yesterday, none of the financial and legal expert witnesses who spoke had any firsthand knowledge of the biden familys financial dealings. House oversight chairman jamie comer says theres a quote, mountain of evidence to support impeachment. But one constitution scholar called to testify by the republicans said so far theres no evidence of an impeachable offense. He lied by telling the American People that there was an absolute wall between his official government duties and his personal life. I do not believe that the Current Evidence would support articles of impeachment. While the president s son, hunter biden, is facing a number of legal problems, democrats say theres no connection to the president. Now, the white house called the timing of the hearing a distraction with that Government Shutdown looming. Our time is 419 California Water regulators released a long awaited proposal to revive dozens of rivers, creeks and wetlands in a 6000 page document that was just released. An update on the bay delta plan focused on increasing the water flows and limiting pumping in the delta and the Sacramento River basin. This updated document comes from an initial update from 2018 on the San Joaquin River basin. The goal is basically to make sure that enough water is flowing from the high sierra to the San Francisco bay. All all right. And i think were talking about rain coming in and were talking about snow from the sierra high elevations could still get some snow, right . Thousand feet . Yeah, it wont be a lake level, but top tops of the mountains. Yeah, youre not going there
